Everything inside was absolutely beautiful--glasswork, ceramics, woodworking, etc. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, but soon a pair of cobalt stained glass earrings jumped out at me and I had to have them. The woman running the shop told me a little bit about the artist (Boothbay Harbor, I think he's from) and how she bought a cobalt glass pair of earrings from his collection the previous year, different design). They're gorgeous when the light hits them. Highly recommend stopping in to look at the array of human creativity on display!

But it's much more than an art gallery. Owners Brian and Stephanie also offer community classes and workshops so that people can find their inner artist / glass nerd and let them roam free! I do not think of myself as a very handy or crafty or artistic person, but I recently had the pleasure of taking a workshop to make "scrappy birds:" stained glass birds that are made out of scraps of glass. I went with my partner, who has been making stained glass art for a number of years (I have never done it before). We both had a good time and learned new stuff! Heather, the teacher, was approachable, knowledgeable and friendly. I learned how to wrap the glass in copper foil, use a soldering iron and attach little legs and a tail to my scrappy birds. Heather took something that had seemed difficult and out of reach and made it understandable. Best of all, I got to take home my glass art birds and hang them in the window, where they catch the light and make me smile. This was a great way to while away a cold and snowy winter night! I'm excited to take more classes there. Perhaps I am crafty after all. :)

There are signs saying "no photography", and I've read a lot of negative reviews by people outraged that they can't just do what they want. The store doesn't have a website. They prefer to keep it analog and special to Bar Harbor. I found the shopkeeper to be sweet and helpful, but I didn't whip out my phone to take pictures. He gave me extra clear filament to hang my final selection and we had a nice chat about the weather and Acadia and the water. I really enjoy my purchase and this quirky shop.

The sun…read morecatchers are gorgeous, and were a remembrance of Maine while I lived out of state for approx 25 years. I enter the store with awe, respect, and appreciation for the beauty. Probably why I've never had an issue. Last year I was shocked when the owner remembered us and our recent move back to New England. He personally found a piece in my favorite color, green. I enjoy it every day - it makes me smile. My husband also got a statement piece he loves. Kindness and respect is contagious. I hope this helps others appreciate and enjoy the store.
