I wandered in twice in the last several weeks, as this was a British Air transfer point as we were flying from SFO to JNB and back. And this was well before the latest Covid/Omicron events. I'm a huge fan of Smythson's yearly Panama-style diaries and I've picked up other premium leather goods over the years. Hence, it was a treat to enter and look around this small stylish shop. This stuff is relatively expensive and even more so since LHR shops no longer offer a VAT break. There were a few sale items to check out, which are often certain colors of otherwise full priced offerings. I ended up with some personalized note cards, an eye glass sleeve, and spotted items that I hope go on sale in the future. It's often wise to also check their online offerings as the store doesn't always carry them. And for some odd reason, if I can get into the Smythson's UK site and order for USA delivery, it's a little cheaper than ordering from home. And of course, if you're into pretty Smythson pouches and bags with your purchase, this is also your place.

The shop was small with cases of one of a kind artisan jewelry. Thick gold rings and bracelets and mostly precious metals. The clerks were not anxious to wait on me. I must have not looked like a serious shopper. Or perhaps they were busy with Valentine shoppers. In any case, their target audience is the impulse buyer internationally entourage. All the shops are duty free so you save on tax. I left empty handed but carried a few sparkly dreams away.

At the time I came here which was mid afternoon, there was only one more other person looking around. Plenty of staff members and if anything I think it is way too many. But maybe on a busier day, they will be needed. I recently bought some earrings, a card holder and also a wallet on chain bag. They had plenty of different options from light to dark colors. If they don't have the bag that you are looking for, it's not going to hurt you to ask. Service was very quick and fast compared to the normal stores outside of the airport. But it might not have everything in this store so be aware. If your looking for a very specific bag I would say to call first and also call the regular stores too!

If you're a bag aficionado, then you know darn well that taxes can break your wallet as much as anything. When faced with this little dilemma I didn't hesitate. The sales associate was helping another customer while I was looking around. I was pretty much nonexistent until I asked about the bag she was showing someone else. From then on, she was attentive and very nice. The price was reasonable considering the exchange rate and I was able to purchase something unique and duty-free. She offered to pack it up with the gift box but since I was taking it on as a carry-on, I opted to just take the gift bag. The overall experience was very pleasant.

Took a very expensive pair of shoes in to have heels rebuilt and resoled. Asked for full leather…read morework and quoted £35 for 6 leather heel builds and 2 leather soles. When picked up they had rubber soles and heels covers. Was fed some rubbish about how these were there to protect the new leather and that shoes don't breathe through leather soles anyway! Several top shoe makers say very differently. On closer inspection the heels had been filled only, with nice soft rubber and through the holes in the soles saw nice new black rubber. The rubber wasn't there to protect the new leather at all. it was there to hide the fact that there was no leather. Leather soled shoes ARE healthier for feet but not very good at hiding bodge jobs. To add insult to serious injury there were nicks out of the uppers that were clearly done whilst trimming the rubber soles, though these had been nicely hidden with polish or blacker. Basically charged a fortune for a job that was knowingly bodged using the cheapest possible materials, fed a packet of lies about the job and damaged a £120 pair of shoes in the process.
