They were very nice while doing my makeup but nice is not the service I paid for- it was for professional makeup. I truly felt that it would have been better if I did my own makeup. She did not look closely at any of the 5 pictures I sent and I actually looked and felt like a clown. I wanted a soft Korean look with not much around the eyes and it was the opposite- glitter on top of glitter, lots of stuff going around the eyes that I did not want. The hair was bad too. It was literally just a bun with a bunch of hairspray after splitting my hair. When I mentioned my dissatisfaction in the middle, she just said it's because she didn't put airbrush on me. But even after all of that it didn't look anything like what I wanted. I went home after and cried before putting on my dress because I looked like a disaster, it was nothing like what I wanted, and was my worst nightmare as a bride and it wasn't cheap either. Also felt they were forcing tip at the end because she kept mentioning to check payment when I already fully paid. Oh and my husband's and mother in law's makeup were also done pretty badly and they did not like it one bit. Overall, I really wish I went with another place because it felt very amateur here. I regret it insanely and did not feel beautiful at all on my big day. Spend your money elsewhere. *In response to the owner's message: I'm actually appalled. I'm just going to state the facts and that's it. Fact #1: I was never told about a "trial run". And a trial run does not make sense. Why would I hire a professional if they needed a "trial run" to get my desired look? Spending 1k to do a trial run and then spending another 1k for an official make up...? And also making a blatant lie about suggesting a trial run. Fact #2: My mom did not show any picture whatsoever. The whole process was this: they asked me what style I wanted and I sent pictures and they said they would do exactly what I sent them. There was no mention whatsoever about my "mom's suggestion". EVEN IF SHE DID, wouldn't a professional clarify with the bride of what she wants? Fact #3: Multiple mentions of tip. Was very uncomfortable and coerced into giving tip Also, the business owner has my number. If they were genuinely sorry they've failed as a service and the bride said she cried, would have been nice to just personally reach out and apologize. Not leave a response filled with lies. Now I truly know how disingenuous they are. Conclusion: Do not come here.

The owner directly asked me to leave one for her at the end of my appointment. The only other person I can recall that has done that was patronizing at best. First off, I felt very uncomfortable during my time here because she kept trying to push and sell her products. My mother originally had scheduled a hair appointment, and I accompanied her and ended up being a walk-in. Apparently, she only takes 3-4 customers a day because her hours are limited, compared to other Korean hair salons. I should have just been stubborn and refused. I didn't want a haircut, but felt coerced to appease. I asked for a straight, clean cut, and it was not only choppy and layered, but also messy. She wanted us to buy hair care items (conditioner and hair oil) and placed them on the counter, as if we had no option but to pay for them. It left a bad taste in my mother's mouth because it's not like she was offering it--it was more of a must. The salesperson tactic she put on was one of the more demeaning customer service interactions of my life. She boasts about her experience in Korea with celebrities and also apparently is a makeup artist. However, I was unhappy and super dissatsified with how it turned out. She said she normally charges $35 for cutting bangs/fringes, yet she would do it free of charge. Like who does that? I ended up DIY-ing my own hair later at home because I couldn't stand the way it looked. It was super awkward because she ended taking pictures for me, and it was the strangest photoshoot session ever. Then, she somehow ended up convincing my mum to buy her hand-painted tissue boxes to pick up at another scheduled visit. At that point, I was so zoned out and ready to leave. I'm pretty sure my mother had zero interest in doing any more business with her, other than receiving the hair care, and the wooden boxes look like crappy work not even aesthetically-appealing enough to sell on a dreadful site like Etsy. We won't be returning. There are plenty of other Korean hair salons that are more affordable and will treat you like a human being, with better skills.

Mrs. Kim took her time to show me how to style my new hair cut which was very helpful as I am not good with styling. I've been coming here for so many years I cannot even remember. I am always pleased to drive a distance to get a cut from her! She always makes sure I'm happy before I walk out the door. She's great with all ages and I know this cause she cuts my moms hair too haha! Thank you Mrs. Kim :)

I…read moreset up a morning appointment since my friends and I were planning on meeting early to eat and take photos, and fortunately Estela had a remaining slot left! After I set up my appointment and sent her a picture of my prom dress, she knew immediately what kind of makeup would work best and come out perfectly in photos. I was apprehensive at first about getting my makeup done because some of my friends' makeovers from MAC were definitely not to my tastes. I was mostly worried that the makeup would turn out too dark and heavy. But, I worried for nothing because Estela's work is simply flawless! I especially love the way she did my eyes and brows - the glitter made my eyes pop out in photos, and the brows are on fleek. While she was doing my makeup, she put me completely at ease. She's very friendly and sweet, and thanks to her, my first professionally done makeup experience was great. And since I got my makeup done in the morning, Estela gave me some powder and lips for touchups later in the day, which I definitely appreciated. I think my makeup was the best out of all my friends in my prom group, and I received many compliments for it! I'd definitely recommend Estela for anyone who wants to get their makeup done for any occasion - either for prom or just for fun :)

Disclaimer: Estela and I went to high school together and played softball those many years ago…read more I am pretty helpless when it comes to makeup. Always had to get it done for school dances and didn't buy my own (except the powder I would buy in junior high just to feel cool) until 3rd year of college when I was prepping for interviews for internships and my roommate took me to the bare escentuals at the mall. Working full-time, my makeup is super simple, and fades (I gradually stop wearing it because when you're a CPA and working long hours, you stop caring). But I needed my makeup done for a photo session for my Save the Dates, and having seen Estela's work on facebook, I got to learn how professional she is. Her work station is clean, organized, sanitized and expansive. I'm Asian so I don't have the double eye lid fold, so that's always a test for makeup artists since many times its not what they are used to. But Estela did a great job. My always critical mom thought it was too dramatic but you have to for a camera. At the end of the day, I did think my eyebrows were a little darker than I anticipated but if I had known what I wanted, Estela would have been able to adjust/accommodate my eyebrows for me. But I thought I looked good in her chair, so that's on me IMHO. I would definitely recommend her even if I didn't know her from high school.

I kind of put review like comments on the photos of my hair that Ashley posted since she took the…read morephotos on her phone. Facts: 1. I was recommended to Ashley by my wedding photographer who is also my mom's friend's son but I also highly recommend him too, but back to Ashley. I didn't even really need to meet with her to see her portfolio since many of his clients used Ashley and photos of her work were in his portfolio. But I feel it's important to disclose what may or may not be information that would create bias. That being said, I still went through her yelp reviews and photos for Studio Ahtti to confirm the pick. 2. I am Korean but second generation and my Korean is super limited and terrible. 3. My bridal party was mostly Asians with two Caucasians. 4. She was at Studio Ahtti when my bridal party went the day of the wedding. Studio Ahtti is bigger and has more support staff. 5. I went back to Ashley and saw her at StyleBox 9 later for my formal bridal photos which we took after the wedding because of schedule constraints. StyleBox is a smaller studio and may not work if you have a large bridal party that needs to get ready for an earlier wedding. Overall: I would definitely recommend Ashley to someone who is Asian, getting married, and has the budget. Pros: I had gained weight pretty much steadily since the engagement and I was worried about my photos. I think the hair and makeup combined made me look awesome in my wedding photos considering my weight gain. I loved loved my look wedding day. I was very happy with my hair for my formal bridal photos, but I almost wanted my wedding day hair again, since I loved it so much. But she would have charged me more to do it again (formal bridal photos work was less than wedding day price). And my Asian bridesmaids all equally looked great. Cons: 1. Speaks primarily Korean, since my Korean is limited, it's a little hard to communicate with her. 2. My non-Asian bridesmaids might have looked better if they had been serviced by someone who works on non-Asians more as they are just different enough where perhaps the similar look didn't quite work? But only one bridesmaid complained about Ashley and the Studio Ahtti team. 3. Price, they are higher than others but also very similar to others so it's not a big con, but hits the budget. I talked to her about bleaching and dying my hair purple but her price was just to high. I ended up going to a friend of a friend who is also a very highly sought after wedding make up and hair studio but more in the Irvine area, and I had considered them when picking wedding make up and hair "vendors" without knowing about the mutual friend/relationship. They were more affordable and would have been more affordable for the wedding as well but location of studio also played a part in my decision.
