And they arrange them by colour groupings making it easier to see what you might need. The Running Stitch has lots of sample projects all over the store. Many of the quilt projects are "kitted" but you can also buy the projects individually to suit your tastes. The staff is simply superb. They are helpful and can guide you from the simplest of projects to difficult projects. Whether you are a child, teen, young adult or an older person---everyone receives the respect and help they need with their projects. The store also carries a vast assortment of sewing supplies and they carry Bernina Machines (which are fabulous). A must stop on the quilting circuit of stores in Ottawa and area.

Much to my delight, the store had almost everything I was looking for, and the staff were attentive and helpful. Donna noticed me looking at some fabrics and I appreciated her directing me to similar choices, as I wasn't familiar with the store lay-out. We had a great chat as she carefully cut my purchases - she sparkled! I renewed my membership to obtain the discounts and look now look forward to sewing again.

I didn't even know the name of this particular material, but I found a pic of what I needed. Upon entering the store, I was greeted by a friendly staff member who pointed me in the right direction. The person I needed to speak with was with another customer. I was offered a chair while I waited. Once served, she knew exactly what I needed. Brought the roll of material out, measured, cut it, wrote up the invoice. At the cash, the person that initially greeted me punched in the numbers and processed my payment. And then, what happened, will keep me coming back to this store every time I need more material. SHE THANKED ME FOR MY PATIENCE. All businesses need to take note of this. They have an excess of shiny, slippery and sheer fabrics, some solid and some nicely patterned cotton sateens, a few flannel/fleece options, lace/cut-outs, linings, and other stuff. I don't recall if they had knits or not. Warning to people under 5'7": you may have trouble reaching fabric on the top shelf in their fashion fabric area. EIther bring a tall friend or be prepared to wait for a shop assistant to help you out. When I went (4 Feb 2013) they were having a 50% off everything sale (with selected bolts at 80% off!) so if you're lucky you'll get there during a sale.

I can understand why quilters get such a stash too... very tempting, although I don't sew much. This shop has a section for yarn, but the quilting and sewing side has more variety in it. I was tempted by a lovely apron, which is funny because I don't ever wear one! Maybe I would though... if it looked like this, and if I made it myself! They offer some upscale yarns in here that were heaven to sink my hands into. I managed to walk away with "only" 2 skeins, which will be for a project for me; I'm thinking mittens, but we shall see. I recently purchased the new knitting book called "Saltwater Mittens", which contains patterns that are supposed to represent Newfoundland, and I'm just itching to get going on a few of these patterns! They have a knit-night on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00. Now that it's on my radar, I will keep this in mind so that I can spend more time looking around. And oh yeah, knitting! Luckily I found Cozzy Coverings who provided me exactly what I needed. They suggested two 8 ft rods with a special joiner in between which made the rod much stronger. They have a great selection of rods and curtains all of which are of excellent quality and price. I would highly recommend Cozzy Coverings for all you curtain designing needs and the staff are very helpful.

For those who make their own clothes, curtains or other home projects this is a great place to check out. The store is big, located on the bottom floor of Westgate Shopping Centre, you wouldn't think space would be an issue but it is absolutely packed with material. It's less of an issue of having a certain fabric but finding it. Speaking of finding it, that is CC's only real downfall. Since it is on the bottom floor of a mall it isn't always the easiest thing to find unless you know where you are looking. The hours they operate tend to be a bit different too, so I would call ahead before heading down there.

I love a good greeting card store. This one has the best selection of cards for any occasion. I got one for my friend saying, "Happy birthday to my favourite vegan friend." I can't wait to give this card to her next year. Yep, I plan that far in advance. The punny cards were hysterical. We were laughing so hard in a fairly quiet store. Luckily, we weren't kicked out. Excellent cards! I also liked the stationery and writing instruments. This store carries Lamy fountain pens, which I hadn't seen in ages. I also loved these huge puffy stickers. My laptop has no room for large stickers these days. If it did, I would have bought one in a heartbeat. I also liked the pencil sharpener that had three different pencil sizes to use. Fancy! If you are looking for a gift for someone, this store had a bunch of cool suggestions. Everything from Sun Jellies totes, to candles and drinkware can be found here. There were even astronaut-themed erasers and candles. So cool! I went to pay for my card. The woman indicated that there was a sticker on the back of the card that may be an issue. Maybe I'm so used to taking off stickers from any surface that I did it at the store without any hesitation. Done! I paid for my card with a debit card. The transaction was smooth. I got my card with an envelope in a small paper bag. The woman at this store was friendly and cared about the quality of her items that customers were about to possess. It was a wonderful find. I'd love to go back when I'm in the neighbourhood again. Cards and perhaps a new fountain pen await. (283)
