After moving across the country to California, I discovered there were no Gold's Gym locations anywhere near me. Naturally, I called to cancel my membership. I was told that cancellations could not be done over the phone and that I would need to come in person to cancel, despite the fact that I now live over 6.5 hours away by plane. When I explained my situation, the representative I spoke with was extremely rude, dismissive, and completely unwilling to help. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue, I was continuously stonewalled by their staff and provided no reasonable solution. To make matters worse, my account was sent to collections for a mere $20/month membership, and my credit score has suffered as a result, all because Gold's Gym refused to provide any legitimate way to cancel my membership remotely. It's clear from reading other reviews that this isn't an isolated incident, it's a pattern of unethical and predatory business practices. . Do yourself a favor and choose ANY other gym except Gold's Gym. Gold's Gym has proven to be dishonest, unhelpful, and completely indifferent to their customers once they have your payment information.

We came in to talk about signing up, and they tell us a starting price that's four and a half times higher than the cost that was described to us. The price included the first month, the "last month", and a ridiculous startup fee, so let's go into that First month makes sense. A gym membership is a prepaid service. I pay a monthly fee, then I use that service for that month. Perfectly fine. Last month DOES NOT. This is, again, a prepaid service. All a "last month" does is force you to pay for an extra chunk that you aren't going to use. If I'm cancelling, I'm not interested in one more month. Finally, there's a startup fee, which I'd be fine with if it weren't more than the two months they wanted us to pay combined. I'm not signing anything with a company that wants to wring out an extra three and a half months of cash before we ever get started.

I IMMEDIATELY knew he was the right choice for me. 1) Rob is very personable - Took time to listen to what I wanted to accomplish and gave his insight into how he could help. He made me laugh as well and made me feel very comfortable even though I was fairly new to the gym and almost 100 lbs overweight 2) Rob knows what he is doing - He took the time to put me through the paces our first 2 weeks together to assess my physical, mental and emotional state before coming up with a workout plan for me. He wanted to know how committed I was. From there he came up with a program for me and continues to adjust that based on my performance, any issues, etc. There is no cookie cutter program with him. 3) He cares - I have now been training with Rob for years. I have gained a love for weight lifting. Whenever I fall off the wagon in terms of eating properly per his plan or doing my cardio he is there to give me support, help me figure out what is going on, or just kick my butt. After hours emails or texts are always responded. I can't say enough about him. Someone you see 2 - 3 times a week that helps you with such a personal thing needs to be someone you trust and respect. He is my coach, my trainer, my sounding board and important for me... my friend. He has clients of every shape, size, sex, nationality. He meets the needs of all of those uniquely. But from my own personal experience I want to speak to ladies that are similar to me..... Ladies, if you are overweight 20, 30, 100 lbs it doesn't matter. This guy can help you. I wanted someone who was: 1) Good looking (because come on, who doesn't wanna stare at a hot trainer 3 hours a week! 2) Had a great personality that clicked with me. I need funny. I need sarcastic. I needed / need a friend 3) Had experience. I explained my situation several times, including that our back pay would be released soon, yet I was still denied access. It felt incredibly insensitive and discouraging to have to repeat my circumstances four different times just to ask for temporary understanding. I actually love Gold's Gym, which makes this experience especially disappointing. The gym has been my outlet during this stressful and emotional time, and to feel like I had to BEG to continue using it was truly disheartening. A little compassion and flexibility go a long way -- especially for loyal members going through situations beyond their control.

This place has done a major equipment overhaul - all the cardio machines are nice and new, weights are plentiful, and good lord there are so many toys to play with. Tons of traditional weights (up to 200lb dbs!!), machines, and iso-lateral plate loaded hammer strength cages. You name it, they probably have it. If you're looking for a sports fitness club this isn't the place. If you're looking for an iron paradise, you just found heaven.
