Powerhouse is a fantastic, no frills, lifters and bodybuilders gym. Every time I'm in the area visiting I get a pass to powerhouse. Their pricing is a great deal if you're looking for a short term membership or if you're lucky enough to call this place your home gym it is also excellent monthly. This place has done a major equipment overhaul - all the cardio machines are nice and new, weights are plentiful, and good lord there are so many toys to play with. Tons of traditional weights (up to 200lb dbs!!), machines, and iso-lateral plate loaded hammer strength cages. You name it, they probably have it. If you're looking for a sports fitness club this isn't the place. If you're looking for an iron paradise, you just found heaven. read more

I used to lift at this gym for a few months only stopped because another powerhouse opened closer. If you're looking for that dark gritty old school style bodybuilding gym this is the place. Very good equipment selection , the space can feel a little cramped and there is no ac other then that I would recommend. read more

I really like this gym because it has the equipment I need to do my workouts, "warehouse" gym setting, and the monthly fee was cheap and really affordable! I'll tell ya this, the size of the gym is pretty small, but I didn't mind it. The machines seem pretty old but it still functions properly to target those muscles. Green turf is present in this gym which is awesome. The only thing that can be quite uncomfortable is the uncleanliness and no A.C. on a hot summer day. But I would always love to come back to this gym and workout. read more

Here from out of town and trained at Powerhouse today. I loved it. Definitely an "old school" feel but in a good way. All the equipment was smooth and functional, enough dumbbells to go around, a turf and power lifting area - everything you need to actually train. Enough cardio equipment variety as well. read more

Never clean, there's years worth of dirt and hair between the rubber matts on the floor, one specific trainer (black male, bald, big guy who has obviously spent time in the gym) NEVER has his clients clean the equipment or rack their weights. I've cleaned up pools of sweat on stuff they just finishes with. Employees are nice, but lazy as hell and won't clean. Only reason i still come is it's cheap ($25) read more

No showers or towel service just real gym atmosphere and real people working out...no stupid lunk alarm! They also have a separate child's room with lots of toys so you can drop your kids off to play while you get your work out on! read more

Awesome gym with great trainers. It's easy to stay accountable because of the tight knit community and culture. Warehouse feel, a little "grungey" but you can tell the members, staff and trainers are there to get results! And membership is the cheapest! I was a member here for 6 months and I figured it's time to share my experience. I think this place has so much potential, and I'll explain constructively explain why. This gym has the foundation of a serious powerlifting/bodybuilding/weightlifting gym/crossfit gym. It has the nitty gritty atmosphere, the wide open warehouse space, and ample lighting. What it doesn't have is an actual deadlift platform and a deadlift bar - this could be a deal breaker for some. The cleanliness and tidiness of the facility is a concern to me. It's inexcusable to have dirty bathrooms and common areas in any business. I'm sure nobody goes to the gym because of the clean bathrooms, but it's a direct reflection of how much they care about their facility and business. My advice? Invest some TLC into the facility and watch it pay off indirectly. Now let's talk about the staff and members: staff are all accommodating and professional and they do their job well. The members, though, are what might turn away some people. There is no shortage of the typical stereotype muscle-heads here - lots of ostentatious self-absorbed protein-guzzling individuals who seem to have traded all their manners to the devil for one extra rep with the E-Z curl bar. It's 2017, doesn't everyone know by now that you can be humble and dominate simultaneously? I guess not when you have your head stuck up your own ass 24/7. The price is where this place shines. For military, it's only $20/month. You can't beat that, but I'd personally like to see this place fulfill its potential even if it means increasing the price. Perhaps the emergence of another gym in the area would address these issues. read more

Absolutely great gym for lifters. They have a wide range of equipment and a solid crew.

What you see is exactly what you get at Powerhouse. This place is a warehouse style sweat box. I personally love it because you're always guaranteed a good sweat in the warmer months. There are lots of equipment to use and great cross-fit equipment like huge tires, ropes, and wooden boxes. It can be a little intimidating to work out here if you're not in the running for Mr. Olympia, but everyone is generally nice and willing to share the equipment. The staff is great; they are always friendly and greet you, but they don't stop you for the typical gym check in process. They know their people and that says a lot about the community atmosphere. There are lots of personal trainers if you're interested in something like that. They also offer a kids' room while the adults work out. I've been going to this gym for a while and it's honestly the most relaxed gym atmosphere I have come across. read more

It's an okay gym if you can be there during off hours, otherwise it gets pretty packed. One star for account management though. I went pretty regularly until I had to cancel after I moved. I cancelled my account and they still charged me. They gave me a refund when I asked, but 6 months later I'm still getting regular calls about how there's a problem with my credit card on the account, even after I talked to the staff about it and they acknowledged the problem. Thankfully that credit card was cancelled or else I'd be paying for this mess with more than my time. read more

I know they don't want to hear this, but this gym is like an oversized boxed gym--CrossFit style. It is awesome! They have tons of space, enough room for everyone to do their own thing. I have been here twice on a trial and wouldn't say anything bad about it. Friendly staff, no judging (at least not verbal), clean machines, tons of equipment, clean bathrooms, open cubby holes (viewable and accessible at all times), fresh free water available, hanging TVs, and free weights all at a decent monthly price. If I wasn't already doing CrossFit monthly and wasn't a pre-signup member at the Elkridge Athletic Club then I would pick between this gym and The Colosseum (I love Tim and was a member at the Colosseum for a year so I would most likely go back here, but Powerhouse is way less crowded and that is always a plus). read more

Hard to hate this place but also hard to love it. Powerhouse gym reminds me of my High school football gym. It's dusty, smells like a wrestling room, and is full of people working hard to get better. In my mind that's exactly what a gym should be, and it's really hard to beat 25 dollars a month. But as I continued to go I started to see some flaws in the gym that really rubbed me the wrong way. For starters there is the customer service, now I get it, it's a grungy gym and like I said, I like that but this ain't no westside barbell. The way the employees handle customer service is less than professional. And the way you are charged for the next month after you leave is just bad business all around. Now to the cleanliness/equipment, obviously it's no secret that this place is very poorly cleaned and that really didn't bother me too much because I'm not much of a fan of the planet fitness style gyms and I think it adds a little bit of personality to the gym. With that being said clean your freaking bathrooms. The equipment is probably my biggest dilemma, they have some machines that you won't find in most the gyms in the area and it's really awesome. On the other hand it's a battle to find autonomous plates and most of the machines are quite a while past their prime. I think that the most upsetting part about the gym is how much potential it has. You can have nice equipment and still have a grungy old school gym. You can have clean bathrooms without turning into a health club. Now I have no clue where this gym stands financially, but any investment into the quality of this gym could have a great return. read more

Lots of potential but...the bathrooms are terrible. Dirty, no soap, no paper towels, clogged toilet (singular...). This is an issue that many others have written about yet nothing has changed. This gym is the WORST. Old equipment and terrible customer service. I cancelled my contract and have been charged twice since cancelling. The person I spoke with was extremely rude, condescending and refused to refund anything. This place is the dumps. Take your money elsewhere. read more

If it tells you anything, I drive all the way from Laurel to train there with Chaz Sutton (CK Fit). Super friendly staff, lots of great equipment and never packed when I'm there (late mornings). In addition to weights, machines, treadmills/bikes/stair climbers, they have turf, giant tires, ropes, boxes, kettlebells and more. Plenty of parking. Lots of people in all shapes and sizes - from overweight to bodybuilders - working out with trainers. Not pretentious at all. Great place! read more

Do not go here if you like the lights on, a clean bathroom, clean equipment, and air conditioning. The facility is not clean even to the lowest standards. But hey I guess that's what you get for $20 a month. There is only 1 bathroom for the girls which is also the changing room. The door also does not lock and has been broken since I started going there two months ago and no one has fixed it. Many times have I been changing and been exposed to others trying to open the door. The owner is cheap and hard to get a hold of for account issues The unprofessionalism and uncleanliness of the facility left a sour taste in my mouth and for that I will never be back. Great gym! Great trainers! Great staff! People complain about having to pay for the gym if they don't use it. Which is silly... Just because you don't come in the gym, you're still a member which is what you pay for, the membership, not just how often you use it. If you don't use your cell phone, car, house or anything any amount of time, you still pay for it. The membership isn't based on usage. And until you cancel, you still are a member and you still owe the gym monthly dues. There is no contract, and you can cancel without penalty. They only ask for one more month in billing whenever you do go to terminate the account. They are open 365 days a year and have great equipment! read more

What a terrible gym. The trainers that work in this gym work for themselves...I saw Kristin. She is a total con artist, bullies you into buying gym sessions with her for a very unreasonable price and then on top of that a $25 a month membership to the actual gym. After being bullied by Kristin to buy these sessions telling me that "I need to give her a months notice if I don't plan on buying more sessions bc she counts on this money to pay her mortgage and bills" I am not responsible for her mortgage. The reason I was not buying more sessions was bc I was having trouble with my own bills and needed a break from the close to 1,000 a month trainer/gym. A wk after buying my first sessions (mid month) and spending around 700 she came to me telling me I needed to purchase more bc the ones I had wouldn't get me all the way to the end of the following month. I work as a hair stylist/eyelash extensionist in a commission based job I can't imagine telling one of my eyelash clients she needs to tell me a month in advance of she doesn't plan on coming anymore bc "I count on her money". It's the nature of the business you lose some you gain some. She is totally unprofessional but the unprofessionalism runs clear across the board. I called the gym to tell them I would no longer be coming and to stop charging my card they said I needed to come down and cancel I could not do it over the phone. The credit card I used was then stolen so they could not longer take their automatic (rip off) payments out. I thought it was a dead issue and moved on. I get a phone call from a lawyers office informing me that this info was sent to her and I owe 105$ to pay for the months where my card was declined (you know the months I was not going). Bad business all around. The gym isn't nice it's a warehouse with a bunch of weight machines. Stay away from Kristen and stay away from powerhouse. Do yourself a favor and find a reputable trainer. read more
