I'm not a member at Life Time but I've been lucky enough to be a guest here a few times. I've lifted here and most recently, took a vinyasa yoga class. The facility is massive -- it almost feels like a mall. There's a cafe, indoor pool, plenty of fitness areas, and spacious locker rooms. Everything felt very clean here which is a plus. The Sunday 10:45am vinyasa class was advertised as "medium heat" but it barely felt heated. The instructor wasn't my favorite and the flow felt clunky and disorganized. Her queueing wasn't very clear and if I were a newbie yogi, I'd be pretty confused. Most of the class was spent in child's pose or savasana and I would've preferred more time to flow and play. The studio itself is fairly small for the size of the rest of the gym. As a guest recently, I had to download the app in order to get my guest pass which was pretty annoying. I've never seen another gym do that and didn't appreciate the extra hoops to jump through. Overall, if this gym was closer and less expensive I'd consider it but for now, I appreciate the chance to be a guest here. read more

I went to this gym from 2023 - 2025 and finally canceled my membership in December. The staff are incredibly nice, honestly they are the best. But the crazy expensive cost is not worth it. It feels like all the money goes to extras like the sitting areas, pickleball courts, classes that cost additional money, etc. The only gym area is the second floor, and even that is taken up by classes. Machines are often broken and dirty, kids are CONSTANTLY running around unsupervised and playing on the equipment, and the gym etiquette has taken a severe hit. You see people filming, reading up multiple machines, sitting for an hour while scrolling, and not putting things back. I had to change my workout so many times because the free weights were missing entire bands of weights. Again, the staff is incredibly kind and nice. But the gym does not deserve the almost $200 a month price point. I would pay $40. read more

I've been a member at Lifetime Columbia since March of 2019. There are MANY benefits to this gym but, when balanced out with the negatives, I feel a resulting 3 star is appropriate. Positives: Luxury gym experience where the people who check you in are always dressed professionally and address me by name, wishing me a good class that I've signed up for. The class instructors ("performers") are, for the most part, excellent. They are motivating, challenging, and provide an amazing experience for all levels. The pool is wonderfully kept, no moldy smells or slime anywhere. The gym is well equipped with anything you could hope for. I love that I can shower with their shampoo/conditioner/body wash and have as many towels to dry off as I want, truly wonderful. There are always classes available to take though the class format you prefer may only be available in the morning/evening when it is I convenient for you to attend. Room for improvement: As others have mentioned, Lifetime has become a money grab, unfortunately. I liken it to a cruise where your membership gets you access, everything else costs more. Signature classes, "ignite the night" events (that used to be free), pickleball, pilates, and select classes all cost more while monthly dues continue to rise. The gym has been under new management for 2023 that really has changed the feel of the gym with a focus on high energy/impact classes and less low impact classes. Even with a 3 star rating and my dues going up every year. I can't keep myself away and love showing up 5 days a week for one or more classes. Dear Life Time Management, I have been a proud and loyal member of Life Time Columbia for the past 17 years. Unfortunately, my recent experience at the club was extremely disappointing and does not reflect the level of service I have come to expect. Recently, I attempted to use a guest pass to bring in a friend who is interested in joining Life Time. I simply wanted to introduce him to the club with a quick tour so he could see the facility before making his decision to sign up. Instead, the manager on duty (a bald gentleman with glasses) refused to honor the guest pass and insisted that my guest would need to pay for a full day pass--even though it was only for a brief walk-through. This approach makes no sense, as I was actively trying to bring in a potential new member. Rather than being welcoming and supportive, the manager created an unnecessary barrier and left both me and my guest with a very negative impression of the club. His lack of flexibility, poor judgment, and dismissive customer service skills are unacceptable. I strongly urge Life Time to address this issue. As a long-time member, I expect better treatment and a more customer-focused approach--especially when I am helping introduce new people to the club. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I am OBSESSED with this gym. Everyone here is genuinely so kind and the facility just looks like a spa/resort, it's gorgeous here! My partner, co worker, and I go here and we love working out here. The group fitness classes are top notch! I love taking zumba, hip hop cycle, and aquatics. They also have such a great pickleball courts and community that is very well organized and fun to be around. The life cafe is very delicious and affordable and I appreciate how clean and sanitary they are with our food. Where to start? They raise the price 20% every couple of months, the the location goes downhill. They are the epitome of corporate greed and poor service. They care zero about the suckers who support them; this is a very mediocre place at best. After doubling the price (again), what are they doing with their obscene profits? 1) Piping in ridiculous amounts of obnoxious (and unsafe) chemical perfumes which comes close to making me vomit. 2) Blaring in scuzzy piped in music everywhere. Forget about a peaceful and relaxing experience. 3) Firing all the new accounts and account people and letting the untrained kids who stand at the front counter try to handle membership changes and concerns. They give you incorrect information and have no idea what they are doing. 4) The pool is cloudy, soupy, and over-chlorinated. At one point I brought a friend as a guest, and he refused to go back because of the poor water quality. I can stay about 20 minutes max in the pool before the chlorine fumes start burning my eyes, even though I wear good quality goggles. Ditto with the hot tub. Never had this problem with my private community pool, which has clear water and uses a sane amount of chlorine. 5) To try to look upscale and faux fancy, they put some new wall tile in the ladies bathroom, only it clashes with the the design and colors on the basins and everything else. Yes, I do know. I have a design degree and I can tell this was a do-it-yourself job with no consult with professionals or even someone who could perform the most rudimentary match colors and patterns. Why not? Everything else about the contrived "luxury" of this place is fake. 6) I don't even have to tell you about the gym is you've tried to use it. 7) Because they are too lazy to move folding chairs after a swim event, there now are 3 permanent rows of "viewing chairs" at the pool. These are occupied by rows of people who "hang out" but are not using facilities. Mostly guys with nowhere to go and nothing to do but watch ladies swim. And they take pictures with their cameras. I know outdoor pools need huge lounging and tanning areas, but I've never seen this at an indoor pool, and hope I never do again. The people running this place have no professionalism or sense whatsoever. 8) The "spa" is nothing but a rip-off with shoddy, over-priced services. 9) The most disgusting thing is that Columbia has no competition besides the aging Columbia Association, so these greedy folks take advantage. Columbia is aching for a decent pool and gym that doesn't cost $200/month for one person. read more

I rejoined LifeTime recently after a years long gap (I was one of the first ten members to sign up at the portacabin before they even built the Columbia building, but I dropped our membership about 12 years later due to my kids being older and my job being busy. Now have one kid in college and one about to go, so rejoining was just for me this time. It has been such a pleasure! The club is kept as sparklingly clean as it always was, from the ladies locker room to the windows at the front, to the machines and under them, someone is always cleaning and polishing. The upstairs has been completely revamped, rearranged, and the new machines are amazing - I am particularly impressed with the hydrotherapy chairs. There are excellent pickleball courts with rackets and balls provided. I had not realized how much I missed the lap pool until I hopped back in, followed by a sauna and a shower with great pressure! Nice new tiling round the locker room mirrors and a new (and improved) locking system. Here's the best part though - the staff. This includes the new (to me) folk like lovely, friendly, happy Jovan, one of the managers, who answered all my questions, signed me up efficiently and has cheerfully greeted me by name every time he has seen me since (these things matter!) And it includes the very long serving staff, like Delia one of the attendants who looks after the ladies' locker room. I don't think Delia had seen me for a good ten years but she remembered me, and greeted me like an old friend. Had an orientation with a great trainer, and a super nail tech as well! The fact that people stay working for the club so long, and obviously love it (the nail tech went through her favorite machines with me) and remember you, well it says something! Shout out to the cafe as well. I wish I hadn't had one of their smoothies because now I'm addicted. Super helpful in the coffee bar area too! In the intervening decade, I've visited other gyms of course, near my work, near my summer job, and here in Columbia (the CA ones). Nothing comes even close to LifeTime - it's (even) pricier now, but you get an absolutely premium experience with the equipment, the physical plant and, most importantly, the staff! We have been members for 2 months and I have no regrets! We pay 310 mnthly for a family of 4. The k Lu thing not included is the outdoor pool but we don't care as our children prefer indoors, especially on a hot day. They get the pool without the scorching sun. We split our time between Columbia and Fairfax. Our daughters have swim lessons every sat at the Fairfax location. Columbia is a bigger gym and tends to have more classes, but we love them both. I've been reluctant to leave a review. This is 3rd time and last straw with BS physical trainers deliberately throwing people off machines in the middle of their sessions who's not registered in "GTX" class in public area. Just because it is class time regardless of unused equipment and no reservation sign (cone) on it. Leaving equipment empty until the class is over. This is NOT definition of luxury gym. Paying the massive membership fee and I can't utilize the equipments at peak hours is absolutely absurd. I suspect they want to force people to participate classes during busy hours. I have been a member at this location for over a month now. I switched gyms because my former gym reduced the number of classes it was offering and I was getting bored. Here's my assessment and breakdown: PARKING: UGH, need I say more. Since there is a lot of members, you spend time circling the lot to find a space. CLASSES: This gym offers so many, I always have a hard time deciding which one I want to take on any given day. The downside is the classes are so popular, and the gym has so many members, that if you don't arrive early you might not find a spot. Fortunately, my schedule allows me to generally arrive 15 minutes before a class to wait in line. I think in 2005, when the gym opened its doors, they did not anticipate that they would have so many members, otherwise, they would have made the studios larger. My favorite classes so far are: TCX, Insanity, H.I.I.T., Tabata, and No Limits Cardio. The classes are all very challenging, and I like that they use different props (dumbbells, resistance bands, steps, gliders, etc). The instructors are all amazing. SPIN CLASS - Unfortunately, I took a spin class and didn't like the bikes as the GEAR uses a knob versus a button/digital screen, like at my former gym. It just makes it challenging for me to follow the instructor with a knob versus seeing a digital number. (They do have a digital screen for rpm,etc.) YOGA CLASS - I have only taken one class, FIRE, which combines yoga and cardio. The room was so hot for me it was almost unbearable. I was sitting in the room before class started and was worried if I would make it. I have a low threshold for extreme heat or cold. I stuck it out and survived. I wish they offered a few classes at a lower temperature. It appears most of the classes are set between 75-85. EQUIPMENT: Weight Machines - they have a variety of machines, but if the gym is busy, which is usually the case, you will have to wait until it frees up. Cardio Machines - an abundance and variety of machines. Fortunately, you never have to wait. Most machines have its own tv. STAFF: Account Manager - I had the pleasure of interacting with Tayler Johnson when I had a free two week trial. When it was over, I waited a month or two before joining Life Time as I was waiting for my membership with my former gym to expire. There may have been a question or two that she had to get back to me on and she was good about the follow up. We exchanged a few emails, and she was very timely in her responses. She also helped me with my membership registration. She has great customer service! Front desk - They have been pleasant and greet me when I arrive to check in. Not sure why I read some bad reviews as that has not been my experience. Personal trainers - I haven't used these services, but I was told there are different packages to accommodate your budget, either individually or in groups. I believe I heard for individual training it is $100 per hour. Oh my, I can't even wrap my head around paying that much. It hurts just paying the monthly dues, much less an additional $100 on top of that. WOMEN'S ROOM: They provide complimentary toiletries and accessories (mouthwash, lotion, tampons, blow dryers, towels). I wish they provided toilet seat covers. Shocking that they don't considering everything else they provide. I don't like that there are big mirrors at the sinks directly across from the locker rooms. Some people such as myself are shy or self conscience and I wouldn't want others to see me in the mirror while I am changing. LOCKERS: To lock the locker, your membership card goes in the slot inside of the door and you also use the key they provide which has the number of the locker imprinted on it. On occasion, the key has gotten stuck and I had to ask for assistance. In between the lockers, there is a changing room with locks which is nice. POOL: There are indoor and outdoor pools with water slides. I haven't used them in a few years so can't really comment on them. BASKETBALL/RAQUETBALL/SQUASH/ROCKWALL: I haven't used these so can't comment. LT APP: Love it! I can check the class schedules to see if there are any changes. You can also make reservations for classes (i.e. spinning) or to reserve one of the courts, make an appt for LifeSpa, or place an order on the app for LifeCafe. The app also has tutorials and workout videos which I haven't tried yet, but plan to use when I can't get to the gym. You can also see payments and your gym usage should you need that info for gym reimbursement through your employer or healthcare provider if they offer it. As a newbie, despite some minor nuisances such as packed parking lot and classes, I like what the gym offers so far. It seems to be a good fit for me and I hope to see body results this coming year. I've been part of this gym since about 2016, and recently switched over to the family plan with my parents. I'm in college now and I really hate to admit it but this location has sharply gone downhill. They continue to change rules that are inexplicably and unreasonably strict and strange. The prices also increase of course, and they have no rules about long-term members getting discounts or anything. In the past I would have given this gym a 4 or 5 star review because honestly the facilities are lovely. Their aquatic area and locker rooms are especially impressive; they are usually very clean and one could stay at the gym all day with the services Lifetime provides. But until this location improves its customer service, treatment of guests, and payment options, it has to have a lower review for me. read more

Definitely one of the best gyms out there. I really wish there were more gyms like this near the area where I work. So when I go to Columbia on the weekends, one of friends takes me in as his guest. The workout area is very well aligned to meet the requirements of a well balanced workout. For me, gym spacing and equipment placement is key to a good workout. In some of the other gyms, it's horrible. You have walk to different floors or walk to other end of the floor to complete a superset. But Lifetime offers you the best solution to complete your superset. Absolutely love the swimming pool. The have a lap pool which is about 25 yards and the other pool is smaller around 20 yards. 20 yard pool is warmer than the 25 yard pool. They always have a life guard stationed at the pool area. Pool area also has co-head jacuzzi and sauna. Locker is very clean and they have all the grooming amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, shaving blades, ear buds etc. You can also take towels which was very clean and folded nicely. Steam room is inside the locker room. Two full court basketball and racket ball courts just outside the men's locker room. They have NBA range three pointer as well. One of the best gyms in the area. Staff is great, gym is clean, and machines are maintained/replaced when needed. There are a ton of squat racks, more than most gyms. Everyone who goes here is super respectful for the most part. I made some really good friends here! If you don't like busy gyms, then try to avoid going between 5pm-8pm M-F and in the morning on the weekends. A lot of the luxury gyms I have been to require 2-3 year contacts that are difficult to cancel. Life Time does it right by doing it month-to-month and letting members cancel whenever they want. There are a lot of people complaining about the monthly fee raising to $120 for Onyx, but honestly I pay $180+ for my Diamond membership to access the Diamond club in Las Vegas, and the gyms are almost identical. I've also been to another Onyx club in Maryland and the building and decor were outdated, half the machines, and half the size of the Columbia location. If people don't want to pay $120, go somewhere else with no jacuzzis, indoor pools, outdoor pool, saunas, and stream rooms. read more

While I wish I could list each and every name from this positive community at the Lifetime in Columbia I did want to make a moment to give accolades to the concierge leader, Carmichael Dedier. Having a large family with varying needs can be quite a challenge. Carmichael has more than once gone above and beyond to find solutions that work for our family and allow us to get the most out of our membership. I'm probably one of the most loyal customers that Lifetime has. I've been a member without missing a single month since 2003, using gyms throughout the country. I've seen it all. But this gym is exceptionally poorly managed. The biggest symptom of that is that broken things stay broken despite numerous complaints and reports (to trainers, operations managers, and even directly to the GM himself). As a result, the facilities get a little worse each month. For the crazy-high membership fee that is completely unacceptable. They have a terrible management turnover problem as well; I think they change GMs once a year if not more often. Despite this, until a better option opens up they will continue to get my money each month. The gym is still better than any other option in the area. read more

I have been going to this particular Life Time Fitness for many years. Maybe about 6+ years now. It's a great gym because I feel they have something for everyone and especially families. They daycare watches your child for nearly 2 hours now or maybe it was 2.5 hours but that's a very generous amount of time! This gym helped a lot of wrestlers get fit and in shape for the wrestling season including my own boys. Now I'm just trying to work on myself and get my core strong and in shape. It's nice being about to work out with your family and everyone has something they can enjoy. Oh one thing though and it isn't the gyms fault as the sign clearly says the rules, some of the women that go into the steam room do exfoliate and scrub their bodies pretty thoroughly in there and that's freaking nasty. I really wish the women didn't do that. I can't stand that! And it says not to be naked in there or have a towel cover, there is always naked women without towels and etc in there. Maybe the rules need to be offered in other languages other then just English. There is one thing I hate and love at the same time. The lockers! The combination one always mess up! At least for me. You've really got to wonder when LT is going to go back to their previous normal hours. They used to be open 24 hours, then they downgraded to 4am-12am. Now they close at 9-10pm based on the day of the week. All these diminished hours while INCREASING their price. They close very early these days, particularly when compared to all other local gyms. Price is up but available hours are way down. When is management going to change this? I've tried sticking it out for quite awhile now, but the value is absolutely plummeting. Many of us daily, more serious fitness enthusiasts are really getting impatient with the hours. Can we get an update please as to the direction the club is taking? There are a half dozen other gyms nearby with later hours and much cheaper prices. I do enjoy the facilities but closing at 9-10pm when you used to be open 24 hours a day is just insane. You will get shallow explanations and recommendations to continue your membership since you are getting a "special deal". I have heard several complaints by other members and even from employees! Ive had a membership at Lifetime fitness for around 7 years now, and I couldn't have asked for more from a gym, although labeling this place as a "gym" is a bit of an understatement. The building itself is a gorgeous, sparkling clean 2 level establishment with the top floor serving as the workout area, with loads and loads of exercise equipment ranging from treadmills to weights to leg presses to things I've never even heard of, along with separate rooms for private classes (cycling, yoga, zumba etc.). The bottom floor is composed of 2 separate basketball courts, a restaurant, a spa an indoor and outdoor pool along with hottubs and even a collection of climbing walls! So you see now why I dont just wanna label this a gym. Its more like a country club if we're being honest. The staff here have always been attentive and friendly and when you are first looking at getting a membership they give you a tour of the facilities. Its all really nice. I'm very disappointed with Life Time Columbia. I called them to cancel my membership then they put me on hold without asked me for more than 15 minutes twice. Is it not ridiculous? Was a great gym once. But it is a sinking ship now thanks to bad corporate strategy and poor customer relationship management. I am a member at Columbia, MD and weights area has been poorly re-designed due to which its too crowded and one has to wait in line to use any machine. Today people were playing volleyball in a racquetball court and were not leaving despite politely requesting. When we approached the manager, she responded saying she doesn't know what the correct policy is for using the facility and hence sided with the guys playing volleyball and left the court to them (which is supposed to be used for playing racquetball). I share the same concern as other reviewers on the gym hours. They charge a premium for membership which was justified due to its round the clock hours but not anymore. I will be cancelling my membership soon. They dont care about customers anymore and seems like their business success is focussed on other areas. read more
