I've always wanted to try F45 and am pleased that they offer a 7 day trial! The staff was very supportive and welcoming, the facility is clean, and there are bathrooms/lockers in facility! Definitely check this place out with a workout buddy and give it a try! I also suggest using the F45 app for ease of booking classes!

I thought this class would be a stretch for me since I'm not a runner whatsoever but I was pleasantly surprised. I did have to stand outside since no one was in the studio but I messaged the business on Instagram and they said someone was on the way. Kiera saved me from the Pittsburgh breeze and was so nice and welcoming. She walked me through all the equipment we would be using so I could feel comfortable. The gym also had lockers inside the bathrooms for each gender. The class was a mix of running/sprinting/jogging/walking and ski pulls, and weights. I feel the burn and I know I'm going to be sore for a few days. I also love the cold peppermint towel at the end. It's a nice touch. It was a great start to my day and I can't wait to be in Pittsburgh again to come back.

I tried the Rejoove by Mecka room for $40. After arrival, I noticed a class was in session, and it shares a wall with the contrast therapy room. The music shook the sauna panels and was too loud for me to even listen to my own music and/or read in peace. After about 15 mins, I left and asked for a refund/reschedule. I was told someone would be in contact. No one was, so I reached out myself, and was told no refunds since I used up a spot that someone else could have. Seems odd considering that the noise level was not communicated prior and part of a session is relaxation. I was offered a reschedule again after requesting a refund instead. Would not recommend giving your money to a place that is so careless with it. Thoughtless concept that is very clearly just an easy money grab.

None of these things kept my attention. I got bored after about two weeks. I am a quitter and I am someone that does not like challenges. I love my comfort zone and I love to eat my feelings. It's what I do. Stout has changed that! My very first class, western boxing, taught by Ty. I don't know a thing about boxing. I do not watch boxing, I know some big names but I do not watch. So I show up at 5:20pm, I'm just standing there, ready to run out (again, quitter). He walks over, introduces himself, and tells me to warm up with shadow boxing. I said I don't know how to shadow box. He gave me the option of jumping rope or jumping jacks. I didn't want to do that, I don't know why but I didn't. he said you got this. I immediately said, ya know what I do. Stoutpgh and their staff is not intimidating AT ALL. It may feel that way if you have never stepped in the facility or if you are thinking about previous Arts schools and maybe they were jerks. Everyone is helpful, constantly guiding you and correcting you with positive reinforcement but also praising you when you do something good! I do love hearing "Good Kia" or "Nice Kia" or "Great job Kia" Class two, it was a bag class. I met Brody, he introduced himself. I stood in front of the heavy bag confused. before I could even get his attention, he came over and assisted me. I walked out of that class throwing 1, 2, and 3 (didn't know what a 3 was), and a switch kick. NICE! I went to class three, signed up that day. Zack, said you have another free class. I said, I don't need it. lets get this party started!!! I want you all to know, I am 44, 4'11, and 263.7lbs. I do not feel like the "fat chick", or the "old chick", I feel like a person. Stoughpgh let's you be a person, not a label. Many times we think we have to get in shape before starting something to get us in shape. How bass ackwards is that??? I didn't think Stoutpgh was for me, I didn't think I could do it. Boy, was I wrong! It is for me, it is for EVERYONE and EVERY BODY!!!! Again, EVERY BODY!!!!!! I look forward to class, actually look forward to going. I am so surprised by that, haha! Staff Cleanliness Availability of Classes Prices Oh last thing, I am funny about what I eat throughout the day. I know I have to train so the idea of just eating anything, I stopped that. I know what will make me feel sluggish, bloated, or just gross. I care about what I take in so that I can be productive during class. I spent a year or longer after moving to Pittsburgh attending classes in many different gyms around the city. I've found other establishments that I enjoy and get great work outs in and click with the coaches but no one compares to the service received at Panthro from Chris and his team. Chris is passionate and knowledgeable in what he does with clients. Not only have I seen some of the best results in my body but feel great and know I'm at the strongest I've been. No doubt I'm going into 30 in the best shape of my life. Chris frequently checks in and remembers problem areas or things I have been working on. If I'm having trouble with an area, he is quick to suggest and demonstrate specific stretches and adjust any of the days work out to ensure the best and most effective experience. Seriously cannot recommend this place enough!! I have 2-3 gyms on my list that I love in Pittsburgh but hands down, Panthro is it! It's small, intimate and such a welcoming gym. When you go to Panthro, you also join a friendly and encouraging community. Results: My body is noticeably different now from when I started. I am stronger and have better muscle definition--receiving multiple compliments from friends and family. The result I appreciate the most is a significant reduction in injuries and recovery times. Pulling a muscle in my back at home? Nope Fatigued after a vigorous day of yard work or helping someone move? Nada. Review #500 !!! Once…read morefree yoga in Schenley Plaza ended for the summer, I was forced to find somewhere new to do yoga in Pittsburgh. The Plaza had amazing instructors from South Hills Power Flow, and I had really high standards going into my search. I also used to practice at the Bikram studio in Lawrenceville, but I have trouble hydrating enough for Bikram. So I was looking for somewhere that had a variety of instructors to try out, but I am pretty open to any style of yoga. I did a lot of research looking into prices, and I settled on trying out Schoolhouse Yoga. You can get a 12 class pass for $100, or $8.33 per class. I really like the different teachers here, and I like that everyone has a different style. It keeps things fresh. Classrooms are kept at a reasonable temperature and are not particularly warm but not too cold either. I really LOVE Jennifer's class because she is this positive and radiant presence in the classroom, and the world just needs more people like her. She is very informative, and she doesn't physically adjust students. I like being adjusted, but I know that is a sore point for a lot of people. Jennifer does more sun salutations and less balancing, and she does a lot of stretching but doesn't leave you holding anything too long. Her yoga 1 class is great, and her yoga 2 is really intense. I love it! Linda is also super informative, but she has a different style. I love her dedication to core strengthening. She does more balancing than Jen, and she really watches that everyone is doing every posture correctly. She asks first but will also do physical adjustments. I also feel like she does a good job working your entire body. She has a very calming presence, and she is super positive. Her Sunday morning class puts me in a great place for the week. Monique's class I wouldn't really consider to be Yoga 1 but more along the lines of gentle stretching. Monique is really pleasant; her style just didn't work for me. This class wasn't for me, but it would be good for anyone with injuries or people who like meditation. I only have a few complaints. 1. The studio is too small. I don't like feeling crammed in, and it feels that way when there are more than about 15-20 people for a class. 2. While most of the people practicing here are super cool, I have felt some shade being thrown by some of the female students. I do sometimes feel unwelcome in the Sunday morning class with Linda, though, as many of the students try to turn the class into a private yoga session. There are some middle-aged women who have conversations all of class and never shut up. It's really inconsiderate. The instructors, however, are all VERY welcoming, and it's worth suffering through this to have class with Linda. 3. The class times are too limited for anyone who has a busy schedule. Most days classes don't start until 9 and the last class starts at 7:30. A 6:00 or 7:00 AM class would be better than having classes in the middle of the day. Due to some of my frustrations, at the beginning of the New Year, I decided to try I am Yoga up the street. They have the $29 for 30 days intro special. With my student discount, their classes are the same price as Schoolhouse, and they are much more conveniently located. However, I am so hooked on Jen and Linda's classes that I cannot wait for my 30 days at I am Yoga to be up. While that studio is much less crammed with a better schedule, I just love the teachers at Schoolhouse more. Overall, other than a few minor complaints, this place is great!

Hootie & the Blowfish and Gin Blossoms were already on this circuit only a few years after their biggest hits. I think I saw an ad once for Foghat appearing at a local car dealership. The Beach Boys? We won't even discuss them. Whereas other veteran artists continue to pay attention to their craft and continue to write and record solid music even if it doesn't sell as well as it used to. They still sell the larger venues and still put an effort into their shows. I'm talking acts like John Mellencamp, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Robert Plant, Carlos Santana, John HIatt, Bonnie Raitt, and a few others. They also seem adept at attracting younger fans. Neil Young clearly falls into the latter category. And that's who my brother Paul, my dad & I saw this past week at the Pete. Neil Young is clearly an intergenerational artist. The dad loved his music the first time around and the bro and I got into him back in the 1990s when he started appearing with Pearl Jam, Nirvana, & others. Neil Young is also multifaceted. You're either going to get Acoustic Neil (a la the movie "Neil Young: Heart of Gold") or you're going to get the hard rock, distortion, fuzz tone Neil, especially when he plays with Crazy Horse. And that's what we got! Curiously, the set began with Neil's roadies setting things up, dressed either as construction workers or lab technicians/scientists. One of 'em, apparently the leader (wearing an Albert Einstein wig), was giving directions as faux amps were lifted out of their faux crates. Then they applauded themselves as a huge novelty vintage mic was set up center stage. It was really bizarre, especially when you consider that Neil Young is not known for his sense of whimsy. They also played a prerecorded version of the "Star Spangled Banner", but since Neil's Canadian, shouldn't they have first played "O Canada" like at the ballgame? The band then went into thundering versions of some of their best known material like "Love and Only Love" and "Powderfinger". He then went into a new song (don't roll your eyes), "Walk Like a Giant" which addresses some of his generations successes and failures. "Walk Like a Giant" ranks up there with the best he's ever done. And those of us who like Acoustic Neil were treated to a haunting version of "The Needle and the Damage Done" and "Twisted Road", an homage to Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison. Oddly enough, Neil Young & Crazy Horse did not perform any material of their 2012 album, "Americana". But we did get "Cinnamon Girl", "Hey Hey, My My", and "Like a Hurricane", which was the encore. The song "Hey Hey, My My" tells us "It's better to burn out/than it is to rust". Ironically, sitting there I could not believe I was watching a 67 year old man on stage.

My single-arm rows have improved from around 30 pounds to hitting 100 pounds during fitness testing week. My endurance has improved just as much. As I researched nearby gyms prior to my move, Altus stood out - they had great reviews online and their philosophy/program offering seemed to align with what I was seeking. John was very responsive to my initial inquiry and after I got settled, I went to meet him for an initial consult. Our conversation gave me full confidence this was the place for me. I love strength training, so I wanted to work with a trainer to get me back into the routine of lifting weights, but I need flexibility - I travel frequently for work and often have to book trips last minute. During our conversation, we talked through everything - my history with strength training, my work and travel schedule, nutrition, injuries, goals, expectations, budget --- it was the most thorough consult I've had with any gym. I also had a preliminary session to determine my baseline (strength, range of motion, etc.) and get all the data measurements, which we use and remeasure to track my progress over time. Now that I've been going to Altus for a few months, I can genuinely say the entire experience - and Altus team - have been amazing. I immediately felt welcome and I appreciate the trainers so much. I've been working with Aaron for my individual sessions and squad sessions and it's been great. He's truly a 'coach' in that we're always talking through each set (about my form, the muscle groups we're focused on, how I'm feeling after each set, why we're doing certain things, etc.) -- it's educational, engaging, and fun. And he's always flexible with my crazy work schedule - accommodating changes when I have to go out of town, providing workouts through the mobile app that I can do virtually when I'm gone, squeezing in sessions when nothing about my availability is 'normal', and checking in regularly between sessions to see how I'm doing. I've also joined several classes and they're always fun - Heather, Cheri, Brandi --they'll kick your butt, but you'll love every minute of it. :) the Versa climber was a new piece of equipment for me --- it's killer but awesome! If you're looking for a gym that will focus on what you need and trainers who will champion you every step of the way to reaching your goals --- head over to Altus. They're the best!
