Stay away from this place with a 10 foot pole. Their service is very, very poor. They should not be the Miele dealer in town and we are taking steps to notify Miele. The refuse to service the expensive Miele coffee machines, leaving you in the lurch if anything goes wrong. And, when a Miele appliance is more than 20 years old, they are nowhere to be found. And the list goes on and on and on! If you need a good Miele dealer, go to Brockville! Just stay away from this place because anybody can sell you shiny new appliances, but servicing them is a whole other matter! read more

I recently purchased a gas stove from F W Black the salesman I dealt with, Ashley McIsaac was very helpful. The stove actually arrived ahead of schedule, the delivery guy's were excellent and were very careful not to damage anything, the installer was fast and efficient. All in all a great experience. We bought a fridge, dishwasher and GE Profile gas oven/stove from FW Black believing that they were a quality retail outlet. The gas stove leaked from the start but the installer was inept and FW Black simply does not respond. We paid full price and received poor service. Shop elsewhere. Arrived in a reasonable time frame, and the delivery folks did a great job moving it into the new kitchen. I required service on an appliance purchased from Blacks a number of years ago. Then as now it was a hi tech refrigerator. We found the Service desk incredibly helpful and pleasant. They ordered the required part; it was in within 3 days; it was installed the next day. They kept us informed every step of the way. While replacing the part on the fridge, we mentioned we needed an adjustment on our dishwasher (also purchased at Blacks). They made that service adjustment free!!! This service took place east of a Gananoque. We need to upgrade our appliances in Belleville. There is no other retailer we will do business with other then Blacks. Contrary to what some people have said, we are totally satisfied I know some people are just plain grouchy. Many customers agree that they are the a BEST! 10 out of 10 read more

We have lived in Kingston for over 30 years. Our real estate agent recommended F W Black and we have bought almost all of our appliances from them since then. We were happy with the appliances and services until our most recent purchase of a refrigerator. The fridge itself seems good but the delivery experience was unpleasant. They changed their mind about the delivery time and when we told them the new time they proposed would not be convenient for us they said they were sticking to the new time anyway. And then they came a bit early and were unhappy that we weren't completely ready for them. read more

We bought a Bosch washer and dryer (ventless) for our apartment from these people. Almost 2 months later, we still have not been able to do one load of washing in the dryer. We have been able to use the dryer, but after using it we find that there is water leaking in the area of the heat exchanger. We have only managed to get one service man out to look at these devices and he said that the main board on the washer was defective and tried unsuccessfully to fix the problem with the dryer. After promising to get back to us the next day, we heard nothing and called the day after. Their service is terrible. We are at a loss as to what to do next. When we demanded that they take back the product and refund our money, they said that only Bosch could do that. Very dissappointed. read more

Bought a new microwave, 11 days later, it stopped working, called F W Black service department, they said, too bad, "call Panasonic service". Panasonic said call Colborne's TV, who are located in Sydenham, In the middle of nowhere. I drove out there, They said it needs a new board. Maybe ready in a week or so. Any other store would replace it immediately. F W Blacks sales and service departments suck. Lesson learned, never buying anything from them again. read more

A good store to shop since assortment is good. Ownership (Colin) is great to work with. BUT the service department and Mike the manager are, as ALL the other reviews suggest, a disgrace. He is uninterested in customer satisfaction, exerts as little effort as he can to assist, and automatically assumes the consumer has no power. He sold us the wrong part (even though we gave him the part to be replaced) then refused to credit the amount which meant he wanted us to bite for $90 then pay the cost of a new filter instead of admitting their error and crediting the account....all this treatment for someone who bought over $13,000 for appliances from them. Ps I am in internally award winning marketer who routinely addresses conferences around the world on customer service and strategy. I know what service (basic not just high end) should look like and what is possible. Their parts person lied to us about what could and couldn't be done and other sales reps who had no knowledge of what was going on tried to interject. Thank god COLIN, the owner, was there and made things right. He would do himself a favour to put mike on a tight leash and more closely monitor how he mismanaged his Dept Again....ownership is good and well-intentioned...the staff is just the opposite. read more

As other reviews I have read about Blacks they are very quickly losing their good reputation .. I also have purchased all my appliances from these people. Are we not encouraged to support our local business people? I had a burner go on my stove and called Blacks where I purchased the stove ... the service person arrived to inform me that the burner indeed was not working and if I were to have this fixed it would probably cost me $700-$800 and because of the rust it would be a fire hazard if I were to fix it ....????? Best to buy a new stove...Of course they quickly processed the service fee to tell me this lie. As other complainants wrote I called POTTERS APPLIANCE REPAIR to replace the burner .... they promptly ordered the part and in 2 days they had my stove up and running once again. Asked about the fire hazard and was shown the stove top in which I could detect no rust at all.. It cost me around $300... Hate to say it but I guess the big box stores will be getting my business from now on ... read more

I can't overstate how unimpressed with this business I am. Like other reviewer's on here, their service is horrendous. I also would've given less than a one star review if that were possible. I used them a few years ago to do a service call to fix an icemaker on our fridge that was purchased from them. After the standard $185 service charge, they came and installed some new parts to the tune of about $600. That actually made the problem worse. When I called them back on it, I was told that there would be new parts coming and they would fix it. There's never any attempt to remedy the unnecessary $600 charge. Then they just ghosted me and stopped returning my phone calls. Now I'm in a situation where I have an induction cooktop and they're the only gig in town that services them. They straight up told me that they were too busy and wouldn't help me. They sure don't do anything to earn your business, and now they straight up tell you that they don't want it. Would highly recommend anybody considering this business, should look elsewhere. read more

Such a terrible place!!! We recently moved to Kingston and would love to support local business during the pandemic. We purchased a new house and needed to buy all new appliances for two units (in total 13 appliances). We paid in full at the beginning of 2021. They told us all appliances were available and would be kept in their warehouse for us. They promised to deliver them after our renovation was completed. But, a month after we paid them, their sales person told us that a few appliances were not available. We then spent a couple of days to search on the internet and found them at other appliance stores. Of the remaining appliances F.W. Black delivered 2 wrong appliances. One of them was a gas range. It was on the floor when we bought it. They sold it to another customer and gave us a discontinued model as a replacement. After a few communications with them we finally got a refund. We had no stove for almost 5 months. What I understand is F.W. Black was a very good store for many years but things have changed drastically since new owners took over. read more

For the 3rd time building a new house, we visited Black Ltd in Kingston. We are never disappointed with their selection of quality appliances and knowledgeable sales people. Nothing like a box store or big name brand store, the staff actually knows their products and helped us select the perfect appliances for our new home. They ordered and stored all our appliances until we were ready for install and their delivery service people were prompt and careful in our new home. The freezer was delivered on time, as promised, by two pleasant young men, who were careful and made sure it was in place and working properly before they left. I called to have my wine refrigerator serviced. $185 to come to the house where the repairman takes a quick look and tells me I need to throw a $10,000 unit away and buy a new one as it is too expensive to repair. He comes to this conclusion without doing any diagnostics! I called the company to express my dissatisfaction and was scolded by who I assume was an owner who told this is the best repairman in Ontario and what he says goes. Called another repair company who came, pulled the unit out tested it and told me I needed a $400.00 part and 3 hours of labor to fix all without the $185.00 service charge. I threw away $185.00 but it was much better than the $10,000 they wanted me to trash. read more

FW Black is considered the high end appliance store in the Kingston area. They either carry or can get whatever it is you're looking for: Dacor, Viking, Miele, Wolf, etc. The reason I give them one star is that their service is so poor. To start with, their spare parts inventory is minimal. In three repair calls they've never had the part we needed. Also, their repair department is understaffed. What this means as a customer is that if your appliance fails it will take a week to get someone out to look at it, two weeks to get the part to fix it, and another week to schedule the repair. I.e. a month from problem to repair, assuming that the replacement part fixes the problem. If the first part doesn't fix the problem, add another month to repeat the whole process. We spent $20k on appliances there in the past year and find we get better service from Potter's Appliances, from whom we've bought nothing. read more

Having just grudgingly agreed to outrageous price for a part (3 times the price I could get if I ordered online, and enough to buy a whole new appliance at Sears or Home Depot) I just found out that these guys have already billed my credit card and the part will be another "few weeks"... Like the reviewer from 2011 I have bought a LOT from Blacks and I do it because I want to support a local business and I don't like cheap disposable stuff. I bought higher end appliances because of the quality and reliability....not so convinced I'm getting quality, reliability or even repairability anymore. For me the problem is that Black's just don't seem to respect the customer once they have your money for appliance they have the service franchise for. Maybe if I lived in Toronto or Ottawa where there was some competition to encourage better service....oh well...I could list three more disappointments but I'll just say I have learned my lesson and will be buying the cheap disposable stuff from this point on. read more

We purchased a commercial grade Maytag washer and dryer set from here less than 3 years ago. The washer no longer functions and requires a major component to be replaced. When called and visited in person. FW took no accountability for standing behind the product or representing us with the manufacturer. When asked what the benefit was to purchasing from them versus a box store they said that they have a service department. Well it turns out that there are many places that services these products at better rates. I'll shop based on price next time instead of supporting a "local" business who shows no value towards there clients. read more

I have been waiting for a month for them to fix my gas range that is only six years old. Seems the electronic clock controls the oven and that this is a very hard to find part indeed.
