However, the dishes tend to be a little too salty for Chinese diners. Its handmade spätzle stands out from regular noodles: these egg noodles are flat, cut into short individual segments. All dishes come with extremely generous portions, and a single main course is more than enough to fully sate an adult

Their duck is very crispy and I would recommend their fried noodles instead of their fried rice. Both are nice but the fried noodles is better.

To me it was the sort of place that once you were done with your food you'd still want to linger a while. The schnitzel with fries was always my favorite, and I seem to recall that it was reasonably priced. For gourmet food and upscale ambiance, you'd want to go elsewhere. But if you want some place that has sort of that neighborhood feel (although it's basically in downtown Mannheim), I can recommend Zentrale.

We went inside at around 7:15 pm on a Tuesday night and asked for a table and the lady said straight on my face "we don't have any tables and kitchen closes at 9". So, just FYI, if you ever wanted to give this restaurant a try do your damn reservation. I am a globetrotter and I understand reservations are preferred but when you travel it is impossible to do reservations unless it is a super fancy restaurant and you planned it way ahead of time. I do not normally get that attitude and restaurants are generally open to making space for new customers or tourists but not this one, anyways lesson learnt!!!

Dobler's is definitely a rare gem in Mannheim…read more I had the chance to grab lunch there one day, and was so pleasantly surprised by the impressive 4-course lunch menu. To be honest, we were a bit liberal with the bubblies and wine paring throughout the meal... I cannot recite every single ingredient in the 4 courses I was served. But I can say in full confidence that every dish, every bite, contained fresh and perfectly cooked ingredients drizzled with sauces and garnishes that balance, expand and deepen the flavor. I am definitely looking forward to return for dinner one day. Note: "Muss(t)" make reservation - as the locals would say.

I learned while visiting Mannheim that the city has an enormous Turkish population, and therefore it has dozens of Turkish restaurants. Uzun Tasfirini is acclaimed as one of the best spots in the "Little Istanbul" neighborhood, specializing in pides. Pides (pronounced "pea-days") are the Turkish equivalent to pizza. This snack food is a large flatbread topped with ground lamb, tomatoes, and spices, which bakes in a wood-fired oven for less than 10 minutes. It is then cut into squares and served with peppers, parsley, and lemons. You assemble the peppers and parsley yourself, squeezing lemon over your pide before you fold it up and indulge in this pizza treat. It's a simple, delicious dish that you can't miss out on if you're in Mannheim or are feeling homesick for a slice of pizza.

A fresh, filling meal including a drink will run you about 6 Euros, which is hard to beat. To start, order the mercimek corbasi soup, a lentil soup made fresh in house. It comes with fresh baked Turkish flat bread, lemon and spices. For the main course, there's a variety of pides to choose from, but my favorite is the spinach & feta -- freshly chopped bright green spinach mixed with creamy cheese, engulfed in homemade Turkish bread, with generous brushed butter on top, crisped to perfection. Heaven is a place on earth with you.
