All items tested consistent with sterling silver prior to shipment. After sending the items, I received no communication for approximately nine weeks. During that time, I made four separate attempts to obtain a status update, none of which were meaningfully addressed. Only after this extended delay was I informed that two of 14 pieces in my shipment were allegedly silver-plated and therefore ineligible for processing. I was further told that, as a result, the entire lot--including the eleven items your company deemed authentic sterling silver--would be returned to me. I was given no prior notice of this policy. I explicitly requested that the items identified as plated be returned to me while proceeding with processing of the confirmed sterling silver pieces. This request was denied without explanation. My follow-up question--seeking a rationale for why partial processing was not possible--was disregarded. At no point was I provided with documentation, test results, or a clear methodology supporting your determination that certain items were plated rather than solid sterling silver. Given that each piece was marked S925 and passed independent testing prior to shipment, this conclusion is both unexpected and unsupported. The handling of this matter raises several concerns: * The lack of timely communication (nine-week delay with no proactive updates) * The absence of transparency in testing or verification methods * The refusal to process clearly authenticated items within the same shipment * The failure to address direct, reasonable questions regarding your policies As a result, I have filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau and am in the process of submitting a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission. I am requesting the following: 1. A detailed explanation of your testing procedures and the basis for determining that certain items were plated 2. Clarification of the policy requiring entire shipments to be rejected rather than partially processed 3. On 5/27/26 I made a $2093.41 purchase from APMEX known as Idiot Mex online. I have never seen this…read moremuch greed & stupidity before. The IdiotMex, moniker is so befitting. The cash payment from my bank account was for a 4 Ducat Gold Coin, Austria. The coin has a listed weight of 13.6 grams of actual gold. The spot price that day, was $ 4525.00, for gold. The coin weighting 0.443 of troy oz, was valued at $2004.00 & premium cost of $88.00, grand total $2093.41. On June 5th, the box arrived. When I opened it, it was a horrific experience. The 4 Ducat coin was very visibly, clipped. The coin weight on the scale was below 12 grams, meaning more that a gram of gold was clipped from the side of coin. This renders, the coin as a counterfeit, no longer containing the milled intended weight of 13.6 grams. It was scrap gold, not BU grade of bullion investment grade coin. The allegation is that APMEX is coin clipper. I contacted the Austrian Mint which verified, APMEX, is the representative agent for Austrian mint, receiving the newly milled restriked coins from their office. So the only person who could have clipped the Ducat was identified as APMEX. This is very serious allegation, with proof enclosed, the image of clipped coin which APMEX mailed. Selling/ using US postal to transact counterfeited gold bullion, is a Federal Crime, 18 U.S. Code § 2320, when convicted, 15 years jail sentence and fines is the punishment. Immediately, I opened a return merchandise authorization with APMEX representative, returned the accursed thing back to them for refund. They put me through near a month of hellish experience to refund my own money back. Meanwhile I filed with Federal Trade Commissioner, to investigate the allegations of fraud. They are slow because of volume of fraud cases that they handle, but when it is investigated by FTC, it is thorough, hoping APMEX is brought to justice, for intent to deliver, counterfeit gold bullion to US public.
