The South Olive Community Center provides classes and programs for the south end of Palm Beach as well as after school care. There is also a really fun looking splash pad for the kids. Much needed improvements to the park were provided by a 2020 Parks Bond Referendum. The old tennis center was a former beach house that had been moved to the park and had been in disrepair for years. In 2020, the city broke ground on a 2 million dollar tennis center and tennis courts that host the South Florida Tennis Program. Hundreds of tennis players are drawn to the courts each week. South Olive Park is a great place to take the kids to play or cool off on a hot day but more than that the tennis and community center anchor the community and bring people together for education and recreation. This park is a treasure for the south end.

After significant construction, the park reopened to the public on December 15, 2024. 96th Street Park is located on Indian Creek so there is scenic water views. During the upgrades to the park, a multipurpose field, state-of-the-art playground equipment, and a full-size basketball court were added. There is also a new LEED Silver-certified multi story municipal community center, Thrive 250 fitness equipment, and a kayak launch. Shade structures, fencing, advanced lighting solutions, landscaping, and comprehensive irrigation systems were also added to the park. The city holds many of its resident events here like a Winter Wonderland and Spring Egg Hunt. With its fresh design and new features, this park is a premier gathering space for the community. We usually stop by when we're walking to or from Surfside. We visited midday on a Saturday when I took these photos and there was only one other family there, so it was a very pleasant experience. The shade under the trees gives you a breezy and cool feel on a hot summer day. The equipment at this park is a bit outdated and needs an upgrade, in my opinion. Our son loves the basketball courts and they also have a very large soccer field (grassy area) to play on. The Surfside community has many events here for residents only, which we are unable to attend since we live across the bridge. :-P

It was located adjacent to Carl Fisher's Nautilus hotel. Today you are still greeted by a reminder from that bygone era by the polo player statue. "The Polo Player" statue was built in 1923 and is still a prominent figure at Polo Park, Miami Beach. This park is one of the oldest in Miami Beach. The land was part of the Flamingo Golf Course, which was built in 1921 for Carl Fisher's hotel. The Northern end of the park was a polo field. A hurricane destroyed the golf course in 1926. The city of Miami Beach purchased the land in 1929. The park was used for boxing matches. An open air theater was built in the park in 1932. The theater was later demolished.

It turns out there once was an actual polo playing field on Miami Beach adjacent to Carl Fisher's Nautilus Hotel. The polo field enjoyed by millionaires ran from 11th to 15th streets east of Alton Road. When you enter the park you are still greeted by a reminder from that bygone era by the polo player statue created in 1923 but today you are more likely to find pickleball than polo. In addition to the the pickleball courts in this spacious 4.6 acre park, Polo Park also has tennis courts, a USE fitness station, basketball courts, a softball field, open field area, walking path, and a shade covered playground for ages 2-5 and 5-12. The playground is fenced in for safety and has poured-in-place rubber surfacing, spring rider, twirl around, and swings. I came during one of South Florida's frequent rainstorms so I had the park to myself except for a gentleman walking around the perimeter for exercise. When the weather is nicer I can easily envision this park filled with fitness enthusiasts. pickle ball players, and kids enjoying the playground.

We have been at Perseverance for over a year now and I am so thankful for the program…read more Every season of the year Perseverance hosts a new basketball league from ages k-6th grade and even some through middle school. If your kid is interested in basketball, this is the only option if you want your kid to develop in a league with zero parent involvement and exceptional coaches. Recently we tried PBGYAA recreation league and I was amazed at how unprofessional and, to be quite honest, dangerous that the basketball games were. Palm Beach Gardens is known for having a bunch of professional golfers in the area. One of them donated 30k and his son's team won the championship in a game where the bias from the referees was undeniable. My son was in a lower division and, not only was the officiating biased, but the games were brutal and violent. For example, when a player would beat the opponent off of the dribble, the defender would tackle him. The shocking part is that the referees did not blow the whistle or award free throws ever. I shot film of the games and asked Benji, the commissioner of the league, if I could send him the footage. He replied "I was watching both games at the same time and they were called right." I told him "I understand why you don't want to see the footage. It is because you know that what i am telling you has merit and you are too stubborn to acknowledge any mistakes by you or your biased referees." I am including the PBGYAA experiences here because the league does not have a yelp that I can see and I'm hopeful that others will take this post to heart when deciding which basketball league to put their kid in. Me personally; we will be avoiding PBGYAA like the plague and sticking with Perseverance only from here on out: Hope that this helps anybody whose kid is interested in basketball. Perseverance really is special and we are so thankful to Nate, the founder, Coach Austin, and everybody involved with the program.

This hidden gem is now known as President Gerald R. Ford Lantana Bicentennial Park, renamed in 2007 to honor President Ford's 1976 visit commemorating the nation's 200th anniversary. Today, it's a peaceful and well-maintained waterfront spot right at the base of the bridge. The park offers a great mix of amenities, including picnic tables, grills, a playground, a picnic pavilion, a spacious green lawn, and clean restrooms. There's also a seawall and a fishing pier, making it a great place to cast a line or just relax by the water. Directly across the way, Sportsman Park provides even more fishing opportunities. The pavilion can be reserved through the city, but the picnic tables and grills are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Parking is metered unless there's a special event, in which case the city provides a shuttle. Lantana also hosts community events here, including Fourth of July celebrations and a local green market. Even on a regular day, though, it's a perfect spot to sit along the water, take in the scenic views of Lake Worth Lagoon, and watch the boats drift by.

The signage and park also honors former President Gerald Ford. In front of the park sign, and in front of all the flagpoles, there's a separate small stone slab highlighting each armed services branch including the coast guard. Behind the signage is a large art installation. And there's a small butterfly sculpture nearer the waterway. The park is located on the north side of Ocean Avenue just west of the bridge going over the Intracoastal. There's a nice sized playground area -- including structures to climb and slide on, and also a set of swings. A few kids were loudly enjoying this. There's a covered pavilion; and bathroom facilities; there are benches spaced periodically. And a walkway along the wall running along the waterway. A fisherman was trying his hand from the side nearer the bridge. And a few folks were just enjoying the water views from benches and taking a "me" break. My husband is already planning to come back here to fish. And I'll be bringing a good book to enjoy while he catches us dinner.
