Wanted to leave a review for Rashad and Crystal because they have quite literally changed my entire…read morelife this year. I attended my first beginner's class in December 2023 (it's now August 2024 when I'm writing this review), and I was probably in the worst shape of my life when I began. I blame Covid/changing to a WFH job/30's metabolism changes blah blah blah, but whatever. I was happy to keep blaming my excuses. And I was so nervous to take a class and move my body in front of other people... I had literally never taken an exercise class of any kind before. But when I say that first class was the most welcoming, encouraging, fun, and yes-HARD-experience I've ever had... I mean it. It was the perfect balance of everything I needed to get me to come back. I've never enjoyed exercising, it's always been something I dread. But Rashad and Crystal know what they're doing, and they genuinely want to help you feel stronger in your body. I never feel uncomfortable or self-conscious in any way in their classes, only encouraged and motivated. I've now lost 23 pounds (!) in the past 8 months (also with the help of a calorie deficit I started 3 months ago), and I feel actual muscle and strength that I've never felt before in my life, even at my "thinnest." I'm now straight up addicted to these classes. I will only miss one if life requires me to, and I feel genuinely upset when I do! They have been such a game changer for my mental health, too. Whatever your goals are -- weight loss, cardio and strengthening , stress release, or just a killer workout with an amazing community -- you'll find it here. I feel so blessed to have found them. THANK YOU F&F!!!

Been training in the ancient art of boxing with kicks for more than a decade now at a few gyms in…read moreand around L.A., and Classic Kickboxing by far is the CLEANEST. In fact, of all the gyms I've been to - including the ones that fit into the LA/24 Hour Fitness mould - this spot in the heart of Old Town Pasadena still remains the most diligent in terms of hygiene. And that's something that's often overlooked in gyms, especially ones that specialize in contact training and use mats. You can easily pick up a case of staph or any other crap that will do serious harm to your body if your gym floors and equipment are filthy and unkempt. (Google Ben Askren if you want to know what can happen to you if you train in a filthy gym.) Mauricio, Classic Kickboxing's owner/instructor, absolutely ensures that his establishment stays clean by reminding everyone to sanitize their stations after each session. That means wiping down the bags, mats, and everything else you've soiled. On that tangent, I know some other reviewers have complained about Mauricio being too militant about his gym's cleanliness, or - strangely enough - even bitched and moaned about the facility not being clean at all. I seriously doubt they've been to many other gyms. His cleaning regimen is not only for your safety, but others as well. Speaking of Mauricio, he is an excellent technical instructor and a really approachable guy. Don't be afraid to ask him questions. He is there to teach you! If you watch his instruction closely, you can see why he is a former Colombian kickboxing champ; his form and technique is excellent, especially his kicks, which he was known for during his career. You will definitely learn proper technique here if you pay attention. Mauricio's kickboxing classes are group instruction and ALL levels of skill are welcomed. Classes run for about 40 to 45 minutes or so and they involve striking and kicking drills, with some form of plyo in between. The last few minutes are meant for core/abs work and light stretching. Is it difficult? It really all depends on how much effort you put into it. You can move at your own pace for sure and nobody will call you out on it (I know some gyms use shame as a type of tactic to motivate you; works for some, most others not so much). But Classic Kickboxing really is a stress-free establishment that rewards those who put their all into their workouts. Other things to note: - The gym is big and beautiful to look at. Lots of heavy bags, lots of space. The other side of the facility has a full ring and another large room. This area is for private instruction only. - They have secured lockers on-site in case you'd like to stow away your valuables. - Parking is paid on the streets nearby, which is ideal. But if you can't find a spot, there are a lot of garages in the area within walking distance. - Mauricio is the primary kickboxing instructor. He has a couple others, but I'd recommend taking his class first (see their online schedule) if you're new. - His other instructors teach boxing and judo. One of his boxing instructors, Christian, was a sparring partner for former world champ Vasiliy Lomachenko. That says quite a lot. - Monthly dues are fair, and compared to the other kickboxing gyms I've been to, actually a bit cheaper. You schedule classes online through their website, or on the Mindbody app. - Best of all, this gym is MEATHEAD-free. Of all the contact gyms I've been to, there's always at least one fragile, big-ego type who walks around like they're the next big thing and tries to pick up on anyone who walks by. If they're here, I haven't seen them at all. And I'm here quite a bit. I believe Mauricio can spot these alpha fail types very quickly and "discourages" them from coming back. Bottom line: Classic Kickboxing is a fun, great workout in a stress-free, meathead-free, and super-clean environment. You couldn't ask for much more than that.

Came back on a weekday and stayed for training... he was barely involved in training that day. I understand how someone might think he is rude but I wouldn't go that far, really he just comes off as checked-out and not interested in his gym / business. The session is about 1/3rd combat sport related. The other 2/3rds is light cardio drills you can do in your own home. The other attendees are more willing to help and with that I would say this place serves more of a sparring club than a serious training gym.

The Yard and Yoshi are excellent. This review will hopefully be helpful as an update to how class…read moreis run (since class has changed a little). First my background: I've trained Muay Thai for two years (first time was in April of 2022). I've trained at 7 gyms: FLMT (Florida Muay Thai , OC MT, Team Oyama, Classic Fight Team, Rising Suns Thai Boxing, NELA Combat Fitness, and Boxing Works. My home gym for the last year was Boxing Works under the instruction of Coach Bryan Popejoy, where I trained 3-4 days a week and did one on ones once a week for about 3 month. I would've stayed there however I recently moved to Northeast LA (Highland Park) and the drive to Torrence for BW was too much (about an hour to an hour and a half drive there and 40 minutes on the way home). Whereas the Yard is a 6-minute drive from me with ample sessions. Second, class style: Classes are Monday through Friday: 8-9:30, 10-11:30, 4-5:30, and 6-7:30pm and then two sparring classes on Saturday from 9-10:30 and 11-12:30. As far as I'm aware, Yoshi teaches each class and he does an excellent job. At other gyms, I feel much more advanced then I do at the Yard. Lots of basic bad habits that I got into are getting fine-tuned and corrected. A typical class is organized in four parts: (1) Cardio: A five minute round of jump ropes and then a 30 minute cardio session where we jog, sprint, do knees, teep across the mats. (2) Bagwork We then do several rounds of shadow boxing where Yoshi will make small adjustments to our form. From there, we all go on the heavy bags and practice whatever we want to work on for several rounds while Yoshi works one on one with us on pad/mitwork. This is where I think the Yard shines. If you go to a class with few students, you are essentially getting a free one on one. When you're not working one on one with Yoshi, you are working the bag. (3): Drills/Sparring From there, we work on a specific technique through partner drills and then light technical sparring. Yoshi is very attentive as he goes around and makes adjustments and suggestions. On Fridays the technique is clinch focused; which is really great. Many gyms in Southern California lack emphasis on the clinch. (4): Burnout/core work: We end with 3 minutes of ab/core work and then a minute plank. Sometimes we will burnout with skip knees on the bag. Overall: An excellent choice. I can't speak to how it would be for a beginner, as I came with two-years of experience. I imagine it would be a great place to start. Potential cons: I do not see people doing drills on thai pads (where one partner holds pads and the other hits). Typically, a Muay Thai class is 1 hour. At the Yard, it is 1.5 hours. Which means its a little more demanding. At this point, I cannot train every day even if my schedule allowed it because my body and cardio is just too shot. I imagine with time, that'll change.

DO NOT GET SCAMMED BY PREVAIL…read more I hate to write this one-star review because I joined Prevail NoHo in March of 2024 and since then, I've loved the community there and the coaches were amazing. However, the management is borderline criminal. I'm writing this so you don't get scammed like we all did at the NoHo location after it closed. Long story short, I signed up for the "NOHO 6-Month All Access Membership" that was $995 every 6 months. My 6-month membership renewed in January of 2026, and the NoHo location closed at the end of February 2026. I wasn't notified by anyone that the location was closing. No phone call, no email. Even as of this review, a post hasn't been made on their social media to notify people of their closing. And in the Prevail App, my account says, "Cancellation Requested," which I never requested. I only found out the NoHo location was closing after one of my classmates posted about it, saying it was sad to see the location go. The next day I called the location to confirm and to see if I could get a pro-rated refund, they said yes, today was their last day and to email Vince, the studio manager. I emailed Vince. No response. I followed up days later. He said he is not refunding anyone's money back and said we could all use the West Hollywood location that's 10 miles away, which would change my 15-minute commute to a 45-minute commute both ways. I told Vince that I signed up for Prevail NoHo because of its location and that I didn't want to drive to West Hollywood and requested a pro-rated refund of $664 for the 4 months I am unable to use my membership. He again refused, so now I am forced to take legal action. All this to say. DO NOT sign up here. When this location inevitably closes, they will not notify you or refund any of your money.
