The stylists are excellent, the pricing and lack of transparency on costs is concerning. I've been a long time client who has had excellent cuts and colors. A year ago or so the owner sent an email and embedded in the email was a disclosure clients would be paying for product (hair dye, etc). Eyeful is also an eco salon, wonderful, but clients pay a fee for that as well. A small color service cost me nearly $60 in product and nearly a $10 "eco" fee. They are constantly raising prices and promoting stylists to charge more. In 18 months it's been over a 50% increase for the same services between periodic service increases, stylist promotions creating another service increase and the product/eco fee which is quite substantial. I understand life is hard right now, but I don't know anyone whose salary has increased significantly, and with the state of the world most of us are fearful we won't have a job in the not so distant future. I'm going to have to take my business elsewhere. Luckily there are several salons in the area that will provide the same service for half the price and do not place the cost of product and sustainability on the clients. As a Lowell resident I want to support local, but when local is so out of touch with pricing compared to every other salon in a 5mi radius, I have no choice. I know eyeful provides a range of stylists to fit your "budget" but there are skilled stylists in area salons still coming in well below eyefuls price point that I don't have to sacrifice experience for a lower price. I paid $200 for a consult and perm. Not bad I thought. The consult was good. I came back a month later for the perm and the stylist had no memory of our prior consult, asked me all the same question, and was rude and insulting. But...I wanted a perm and she was teaching and her student was sweet and eager. so I stayed. Actual she was a good teacher...just bad at customer service. I asked multiple times...what should I buy to keep my perm, style my perm etc as I've never had one before and don't have any styling products at home. Even said I'd buy whatever she recommended. she said oh...just go home and play. you'll be fine. Well I waited the 3 days plus a little to be safe and then washed my hair....and guess what....the curl is gone from large chunks of my hair. Panicked I call and ask what happened. She says it's just your hair. Nothing can be done. She can't redo it. she didn't even offer a refund (not even partial). So I asked can I send you a picture so you can see what I'm talking about. Sure she says. Well that was close to an hour ago and we'll...I'm still waiting. But recently it really upsets me. I booked an appointment on online through it's booking system two weeks ago. And two days ago, I received a message told me mute appointment is canceled. Three hours later, someone from front desk called me. She: Your appointment is canceled, but we have an opening on Friday, do you want to come? Me: I cannot make it on Friday. I only can go there on Saturday because I live far away from there. Why my appointment is canceled? She: became she is already overbooked at that day. It is before holiday so she is busy. Me: ??? I was able to make an appointment online. She: Your appointment is bang trim but Nikki thinks you don't have a bang. Me: I do, and I only need a bang trim. She: But Nikki is not the person who cut your Bang, she is not able to trim it. Me: ok. I would appreciate more if you can tell me earlier instead two days ahead. Karen did a horrible job with my haircut. She was very insensitive and laughed at my hair goals. I still tipped her nonetheless but honestly, please learn about quality service and care. I asked for a specific haircut and she flat out said "what does that even mean?" (I asked for long layers and blunt ends) I spent way too much money for someone to not listen to what I want and laugh in my face. I won't be going back. Very classy salon, was able to get a same day appointment when I called. When I entered I was asked if I wanted anything to drink and they took my coat for me. I was unfamiliar with the salon because I'm just in the area for college and not from around Lowell. I ended up with a fantastic haircut but the price shocked me. Online it said haircuts were $35+ but my total ended up being $65 before the tip... (I was expecting it to be around $50 before tip). My hair was just past my shoulders and I only got a few inches off and the front pieces slightly shorter, nothing crazy. For me, this price was ridiculous, and of course being courteousness tipping 20% afterwards did not help my wallet. Yes it was a good haircut, but you can get just as good somewhere else for cheaper. Took my 3 year old grandson for a haircut. My daughter in law was extremely disappointed with his haircut. Called them to ask if they can fix his hair and they refused. They said the children were difficult and they were not their type of people. Now mind you...I did hairdressing for nearly 20 years and I would never tell a client they were not my type of people. My grandson sat on my lap during the haircut and was not difficult at all. Really cool/edgy but modern atmosphere and was immediately asked if I wanted any wine or water to drink and asked if I needed my coat hung up. My stylist was Julia and she was awesome and did exactly what I asked her to do! She had an edgy style to her so I knew immediately she would get me and she was really fun to talk to the entire time! It's been nearly 6 months since I've had so much as a trim on my long, really unkempt hair. I decided I'd get my hair cut and found Eyeful Beauty through a yelp search of places near my house. I loved the look of the place online and the prices seemed very reasonable. When I got there today for my appointment, the staff was kind and friendly. I only waited a few minutes and Meghan got to me. We talked for a few minutes about what type of hair cut I was looking for. She listened and then gave me a wonderful haircut. She took her time to get to know what I usually do with my hair. I felt very comfortable during the entire hair styling experience and we had a nice conversation while she worked. The salon was very clean and neat, they offer only vegan hair products and they even have a very friendly, cute cat that wanders about. So I'm updating my review after my first keratin treatment... I had it done in the spring (early May) and I finally felt the need to come back today for the next treatment. I could have gone a couple more weeks, honestly. I've been following Meg's recommendations (washing and conditioning with the proper products) and the first keratin lasted for almost five months. Even with the texture of my hair (I have very porous hair with a tight curl pattern) my hair was still soft and super manageable after many months. I don't usually flat iron it anymore (unless I let it air-dry), I'm good with a decent blow dry. I end up spending less than an hour washing, conditioning, drying and styling. This is a huge time savings for me. And my hair is healthier because I'm ultimately using less heat and that's huge. Having ethnic (black) hair sometimes it took more than 2 hours, (sometimes three) to do my hair depending on what I wanted to do. So today I went back for my second treatment. I'm still a happy camper and will keep coming back. After the second treatment, my hair feels even more healthy than before and is in much better shape now that the old chemical relaxer I was using before the keratin is growing out. I'm not straightening it with harsh chemical relaxers ever again. I'm sticking with keratin. read more

About a year ago I was working in Lowell, and decided to look for a place to get my hair done close to work. I stumbled upon Eyeful Beauty and have been going ever since. I have a double process highlight, but it's always been quick enough, and the staff is so friendly. Nicole's been doing my cut and highlights for a year now, and even though I've moved out of the area, I still commute down to Lowell to get my hair done. If you're a spontaneous person like me, it's also a great salon to be a regular at. To make my appointments I can just text Nicole, and she has her schedule right on her phone whether she's at the salon or not. I've pestered her with on the whim 3 am texts, and gotten my hair done the next day. They've recently gone back to having a different artist's work up in the salon with the majority of the items for sale. There's always some very interesting pieces. It's very clean, and the decor is awesome, from the retro Eyeful pin-up magazines that adorns the reception desk, to the parking ticket table, it's all pretty sweet. Shelley has been doing my cuts for a while and she's rocks. She's works great, is always open for an appointment, hilarious, and makes me as a guy feel comfortable walking into a salon...which would scare most dudes away. Cuts, washes, and styling aside, walking in you'll notice this place feels super high end, but it also has an attitude... and they've got some interesting art pieces from local artists up on the wall. It's not that the stylists that I have seen have universally lacked talent (although some certainly have), but I'm a simple person with an uncomplicated style. I was a little bit apprehensive walking into the salon - it is difficult to describe my previous haircut (which was NOT at Eyeful) without words like "trainwreck" "mauled" or "spoofed newscaster," and everyone in the establishment seemed, well, much more stylistically adventurous than I am. Nikk immediately put me at ease with her friendly, professional manner. Rather than jumping in blind, she took a few minutes to really nail down a clear idea of what I was looking for by showing me pictures and offering her own thoughts on what she felt would work well. Love having this place downtown! They're punctual with their appointments (which is nice - some salons end up way behind schedule); and the girls in there are all very nice. I've had my hair cut by Megs & had an up-do by Shelley. Although I haven't spoken much to Nicole, her clients seem to like her. Great ambiance and welcoming. I've had a lot of medical problems and, as a result, my hair has been negatively affected - this was the reason I was also so scared to even get my hair trimmed. I completely lucked out and got paired up with Sheilagh. She walked me through the entire process, was incredibly knowledgable, and did an incredible job. I got my ombré done here last summer. Overall, I am happy with it. There are some small inconsistencies with the color, but whatever... Can't expect perfection, I guess. I mean, I should when I paid $250 for it, but I'm not one to complain much. You can only tell when it's completely straightened... When it's curled, it's beautiful. The overall experience was good... But I could tell my hair stylist was a bit frustrated toward the end because of the length of time it was taking to dye my hair. I did let them know ahead of time that I have very long, very thick hair.. So, it should have been expected to take such a long time. Even I expected it. I had an appointment late in the day, so she shouldn't have scheduled someone after me, who came in... And sat and waited and eventually left because she was not done with me. However I've been butchered in supercuts and the like so previously I have had to risk looking like a weedwacker accident or pay 40 plus tip or more for a cut. I went in for a keratin treatment. I didn't like the service very much. Prior to going in for my appointment, I informed the stylist that I had very coarse, African hair. I was told that was fine. I bought a groupon from eyeful for $129 for the treatment. After the stylist washed my hair, the keratin was applied. I was sitting and waiting for a while, nothing was communicated to me. The stylist didn't do much communication. I had to ask why I was sitting for so long, moving from chair to chair, and how long the treatment was going to take. She told me another few hours because the keratin was taking longer due to the texture of my hair. I ordered dinner, the stylist went to pick it up for me. After I finished dinner, I waited another 40 minutes for the stylist. She sent someone else to rinse my hair. Before I knew it I had two stylists blow drying and pressing my hair. During that time, they both just felt so bothered with my hair. I felt that all the salon staff were feeling the same. At that point, I was the only client left and they seemed frustrated with my hair. My hair wasn't getting as straight as it should be so they kept pressing it over and over. Then one of the stylist placed the pressing iron to the highest degree possible. I asked why, she said the keratin is bonded with your hair through heat. BIG MISTAKE: one week after the treatment, about 20% of my hair fell off!!! Pros: I was offered a beverage when I walked in. The stylist picked up my dinner for me. Cons: Even while I was waiting, no one offered additional services to me. I really needed to get my eyebrows done and I wanted a hair cut. Had these services been offered to me while waiting, I would have purchased them. The stylist and I did not bond at all. She never really talked to me. I initiated a conversation with her several times, she gave one word answers. Her only instructions were to use a sulfate free shampoo and wait at least 48 hours to wash my hair. On my way out the door, I was not offered a business card. I reached for one that was on the counter and that's when she offered hers. I never received a phone call to check to see if I was pleased with the treatment. It's really too bad because their location and hours are convenient for me. I just moved to the area and was looking for a salon that I could go to often. The customer service I received showed that their services aren't design for someone like me. If you have African hair, this salon is not for you. read more
