I have just read another ONE star 'not recommended' review for this optician which is harder to…read morefind than the FIVE star one listed here. The review was left in 2013 and is worth a read - describing an incredulously rude shop assistant. I have to agree entirely with that review! I am an extremely friendly/personable business woman and can honestly say I am rarely offended by anyone that I meet. I am a lover of architecture, art and design and thought the shop looked modern and interesting - a great place to add to my ever expanding glasses collection...However - I feel compelled to put my thoughts in writing after my horrible experience here. The shop assistant at David Paul was one of the most offensively condescending and rude women I have EVER met. From the moment I entered the shop she glared at me over her glasses and stood very close behind me while I slowly browsed the frames in the shop. She stood in complete, deathly silence and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable - as if she didn't want me in the shop or trying on her glasses. I tried to break the ice by smiling and having a friendly chat but she just glared at me in complete silence - as if I had not spoken! Every question I asked was answered abruptly and rudely with a face so sour it could curdle milk. I found a few pairs of glasses that I really liked the look of but just couldn't bring myself to spend my £900 with her; so I took my money a few doors up to be greeted by lovely smiling faces in Boots Optician! David Paul...I worked in branding and marketing for the UK's leading telecommunications company for many years, and our brand values were the back bone of our success story; 'refreshing, dynamic, friendly'. A shop assistant is the face of the business and should reflect your brand identity. Having the optometry equivalent of Annie's 'Mrs Hannigan' to greet your customers is not only damaging to your brand but is obviously losing you money and customers hand over fist. I for one most certainly won't be coming back! And a message to your shop assistant; in the words of Annie herself...remember "you're never fully dressed without a SMILE".

I have been a customer here for many years and always been very happy with the service I have…read morereceived. Bernadette in particular has always been very helpful, reassuring and professional. They have a good selection of glasses on offer and are very helpful helping you make a choice.

Basically, I went in at lunchtime on 8th of Aug to see if I could speak to someone (very briefly) about some contact lens issue (weren't sure if one of the lens was still in the eye & needed confirmation as the eye was painfully sore from failed attempts of finishing the lens- whether it was with eye dye or visual checks). As I had been in discomfort all morning, I was desperate for some advice. Note, I occasionally wear contact lens but infrequently, so I'm not a totally new contact lens wearer. There were two people at reception, a young man & a lady. I approached the man, explained the situation but the lady receptionist then took over & asked if I was a patient & as soon as I said no, she said they were busy all day long & nothing could be done - this was without even looking into the booking systems! Also, I couldn't see any other customers. She turned me away quickly, offered no alternatives/suggestions-nothing. I could have been a potential future customer, but sadly to say I won't be coming here again for anything, whether it's for checks, glasses, contact lens, eye drops or contact lens solution. Incidentally, I wanted to buy the latter two that day. Customer service is below par in my experience. But perhaps I actually needed to be a customer!
