Stanleys Ice Station No 6 - Outside

Stanleys Ice Station No 6

Eastside

After a crazy night downtown, I realized I might not have enough gas to get home. Naturally pulling…read moreup the Yelp app and seeing only a handful of stations nearby, I cross checked it with another app to see where the cheapest prices were. The only one that was even below $2.60 (#1) was Stanley's Ice, which was just about 10 minutes east of where I was. When I arrived, I realized this was a seedier part of town. I'm never deterred and I also knew I didn't have enough gas to really head anywhere else. Then the rest of the experience was as follows: * None of the pumps would take my credit card. It was a pay first, then pump situation and one needs to go inside. * There were multiple stray dogs barking at me and almost followed me into the store. I flashed my cell phone light and they turned the other way. * The store was packed with all sorts of characters. While I'm waiting in line to pay, a guy waiting in front of me turns around and asks me, "Hey, do you have an extra cigarettes?" to which I replied, "No. You can probably get some at the counter." He scoffs and says, "Ok, but what about condoms?" And when I smiled and shake my head he says, "I gotta go to the bathroom!" and promptly walks out of line. * I noticed the store is loaded with CBD / weed merch in the form of t-shirts, caps, face masks, bagpacks, and signs. They love that green. * The prices here for most things (drinks, snacks, etc.) are cheaper than the average store. I dig it. * While I'm pumping my pre-paid gas, a homeless man approaches me to tell me that I have a nice car. Then he asks me for a ride. The barking dogs hanging out near my wheels eventually freak him out and he leaves. * The man that was previously in line is actually at the dumpster. Relieving himself. He waves at me while standing in a puddle of his own fluid. * I start my car after finishing the pumping and a group of half a dozen teenagers on bikes and just hanging out in the parking lot and staring at me. As I turn on my lights, one of them flips me off. Awesome. * Just as I'm leaving the station, a man sitting in a wheelchair near the sign / bus stop says very loudly, "COME BACK SOON!" as I pull away. I gave him a thumbs up. A friend later told me that this was one of the dodgier parts of the city and that one should never be here after 10pm. Having just moved to SA at the time from NYC, I felt a sense of familiarity ... at a gas station no less. _______________ (#1) The good ol days ... ?

During my visit on August 29, 2024, I prepaid for $40.00 worth of gas at your station. However,…read moreonly $37.50 was dispensed. After several days of waiting to ensure the correct amount was posted to my account, I noticed that I was still charged the full $40.00. I contacted my bank, Navy Federal, to resolve the issue, but they informed me that because the transaction was prepaid and there was no other proof available, they were unable to assist further. On September 26, 2024, while in the area, I visited your station in person to discuss the matter. I spoke with Alex at the counter, who informed me that it could take anywhere from 5-6 business days, or up to 14 business days, for the correct amount to post. However, as of today, both of these time frames have passed. While still on the premises, I contacted Navy Federal again and was advised that the posting process should take no longer than 3-5 business days. The representative also disagreed with the information I had received from your employee. This is the first time I have prepaid for gas and been charged for an amount greater than what was pumped. While the overcharge was only $2.50, it is a matter of principle. I encourage customers to exercise caution when using this gas station to ensure they are charged correctly.

Even though it was my first time visiting San Antonio, I'm totally in agreement with Fernanda F, a…read moretrue San Antonian born and raised, minus the actual store, since I've never actually been inside. I've only been here twice to fill up on gas. The pumps aren't clean by any means; in fact, the one I was using had the 87 octane label ripped off from the button! Why would someone do that?! Nevertheless, the pump did get the job done for me, but I do want to caution that on both of my visits, the pump I was at was spilling out liquid right before I inserted into the fuel tank of my rental car. Clearly, it has seen better days, and speaking of better days, I also agree that the area doesn't look safe. Might I add the words "barren" and "dilapidated" to that list as well? Either way, I would only recommend for a quick in and out during the day time. There's a Valero just a couple blocks west of here, but kind of out of the way of the 10 since this station is literally right off the freeway. Look for the Laredo St exit as that's where the gas station is located. If you're traveling northbound on the 10, it's literally right there that there's no way you can miss it. If you're traveling southbound, make a left, cross the freeway underpass, and it will be to your left. For eats, there's a McDonalds next door to the Shell, and one more building over is a Mexican restaurant. Is the gas expensive here? No compared to California lol. But compared to other parts, I would say so. The first time I fueled up, it was $3.19 per gallon. The second time, it went up 8 cents per gallon. When I fueled up at Buc-ee's between those two visits, it was less than $3 per gallon. I didn't have an issue with paying by card both times, but oddly enough, after my second trip, my card started having issues on the ensuing transaction when I went to get dinner. I confirmed that the dinner was the culprit of my card declining, but was also told that my visit to this Shell could have triggered something that caused my card to decline the remainder of my trip. I would have given 3 stars, but because of this mess, as well as Fernanda mentioning issues with credit cards at this location, I'm choosing to drop one additional star here. If I make a return visit to San Antonio, I'm going to avoid this Shell. I'd recommend going to the nearby Valero instead. Or maybe I should go all the way to New Braunfels just to visit Buc-ee's again lol.

No issues at all. Now the food was...well it looked great! Just wasn't executed well. The taste was there though. I got the street tacos, which was 3 regular sized tacos on white corn tortillas. They grilled up the onions and a jalapeño fresh. They added some oil, and 'cooked' the tortillas. But they just took the meat out the warmer and put it in the shells in the container. That was whack. The red salsa was good. The green salsa was not. The actual food was disappointing because the tortillas fell apart soon as I bit into em. A small thing of beans came with it- I don't mess with beans like that. The order came to $10 and some change.

When I need a cup of sugar..Or eggs I need for a recipe.. this or that..My list is endless that Molina's has saved me from leaving downtown and having to go to a big box store for that ONE thing I desperately need! And now about the staff... Since I'm mosDefinitely one of their many regulars and because of this.. I know EVERY single one of their staff and just the same.. They all, including the owner, Know me very well and always go above and beyond for me and treat me with the utmost respect.. If there's something that they're out of that I'm there for.. they (their staff and at times when the owner is there, she as well will ALWAYS ALWAYS write down and make a list of the things I had originally came for and within a mere few days, I'll stop by and it's usually one of their lovely employees inform me that what I had been looking for is back in stock... Now..Tell me how many other corner stores happily and proudly deliver THAT level of QUALITY service and follow through? Yea..NONE. PLUS! From the moment they open until they lock their doors they have onsite security officers there! Now -The owner- She's wonderful, very professional and truly Kind. A year or so ago.. I was talking with one of her employees about a... A rather awkward yet serious issue I had with one of the individuals that had been sent from the security company she had a contract with that were supposed to come there to enforce "security" To the point where i found myself avoiding the store if I thought he might be there..Bc he harassed me every time I would swing by the store for one thing or the other.. Finally one evening I went in to the store and it was actually one of her very professional employees that just came out and asked me about the situation with this individual and my gosh was I thankful they asked me about it.. And I was Ahhh!! Oh my gosh yall HELP!! I even shared with them that how I had been avoiding coming.. And just so happened that the owner was in the back and came out to the front bc I think she could hear bits in the back.. And she IMMEDIATELY just started apologizing (so so sincerely) And was so sorry from ALL aspects and assured me (and I believed her 1000%) That to not worry I wouldn't EVER have to see this individual EVER ever again and she would be addressing this IMMEDIATELY.. And I said.. I am so NOT the type to cause drama or..ya know..Do anything that might cause a fuss... And she made me feel so.. So HEARD and understood. I do get that this is a rather long review for your lil corner store...or rather MY CORNER STORE But from ownership to her employees.. Who all know me.. Every time I go there.. Raise the bar to any corner store from our downtown area to across this city. Much love yall
