DO NOT GO HERE FOR ANYTHING!…read more I work a few blocks away, needed my inspection done, and, armed with a ten dollar coupon, dropped off my car at 6 am. At 10:30, I got a phone call from the manager informing me that I failed inspection because of brakes. A little confused, I did not authorize any more work, and called my father, a service director, and asked him for advice. He informed me that NY State law states that a vehicle only fails brake inspection if, and only if, the brake pads are worn to the point that metal is grinding on metal. Armed with this information, I called KSK back. This is where things got even more fun. After I informed him of what I just learned, he still refused to pass and release my car. Again, I did not authorize him to do any repair work (his obvious goal), and told him that I was aware of state law and he must pass my car or I would call the DMV. He finally relented, but said he would not honor the coupon. So 3 pm hits, I walk down to pick up my car. I argue with the attendant, who was on the phone with the manager, about the price of the inspection. It went something like this. "I have a ten dollar coupon, and want it honored. My car passed inspection, after all. Didn't fail. " "Manager says no." "Listen, it's not like you're helping me out by not failing my car, it passed legitimately. At the very least charge me the $20 you have advertised outside" "Manager says $37 or we hold the car" "You know you guys are ridiculous" "$37" So I paid, took my car to a real service station, and filed a complaint with the DMV. I know this all seems far fetched, but while looking for the shop address online I stumbled across another negative review for a situation almost identical to mine.
