Is Binghamton a full service kind of town? That's the big question on my mind this morning.
For the past two weeks this Exxon has had a big banner reading "Coming Soon! Full Service." And when I pulled in this morning, sure enough, a gas attendant runs over and pumps my gas. He was a little green at the routine, stumbling over protocols - I might have been his first customer. But he wiped my windshield, spending significant energy scraping off some well smooshed bug. And let me tell you, there's nothing quite as surreal as being half asleep (waiting for the coffee to kick in) and watching some dude go to town on your windshield wiping off bugs. It got me thinking, "hey, maybe there is something to this Full Service thing."
But back to my original question, "Is Binghamton a Full Service type of town." Personally, I don't think so. I think people here are a tad suspicious of new services. Besides, there's a certain manly pride that comes from pumping the fuel. But my wife thinks it could be a hit - she hates pumping gas and would go out of her way to have someone pump it for her. So who knows what will happen.
In anycase, Full Service gas has hit Binghamton. It hasn't seemed to raise prices, although this Exxon tends to be on the higher edge of gas prices. But it's darn convenient. read more
