We had so much and left completely DRENCHED in sweat. While it is tempting to want to try some of the more "difficult" scenarios for your first visit, I would definitely encourage you to start with something a tad low-key. We had 5 of us and we did the zombie apocalypse/walking dead-type experience and while it was definitely fun, we wish we would have tried something easier for our first experience. We did end up running into each other once in a while or hitting each other in the head! It was chaos to have a billion zombies coming at you and so we were kind of just spinning in circles and shooting at everything! I was a bit nervous because I am known to get vertigo but it didn't affect me in that way at all. Expect to sweat and make sure to wear closed toed shoes!! read more

Our coach Adam talked us through everything so professionally...plus he was a lot of fun. And the equipment is air conditioned and heated, so you never have to worry about weather. What a great time. Thanks to Adam for his guidance and laughs. I've wanted to do this for years. i almost chickened out, so glad I did it.

Very unique experience. We ended up getting there half an hour early because I wasn't sure how much additional time the detour would take. Because of the mass amount of rain we've been getting, the more direct route was closed. Fortunately they emailed us a couple days in advance an alternate route. It was kind of a long drive through farm fields, but it was worth it. I got a livingsocial coupon otherwise it would have been really expensive. Cancellation policy seems pretty strict needing a 72 hour or more notice for a full refund, anything less is only a 50% to zero refund, 48 hour and less I believe. Only reason why I paid attention was my boyfriend was feeling pretty sick at the beginning of the week and we weren't sure if he would be feeling up to it on Friday. Training vids were pretty straightforward and we opted to use a video drone to take footage of us when we were out on the course. I didn't want to fiddle with my phone while operating an excavator anyway although it would have been nice to take a picture of the car I lifted. The only thing that worried me was how I got blank stares when I asked for my wristlet back since they promised they would store it in the office for me. Silly me, what did I expect from a bunch of guys. They didn't know what a wristlet was. After I explained it was kind of like a black purse it was returned to me safe and sound. They definitely had a sense of humor and lots of patience teaching noobs like me and my boyfriend how to operate the equipment. It wasn't just digging holes either. There was an obstacle course to drive around and play with tennis balls, cones, basketballs, tires, hills, etc. read more

That is a very fun adult sandbox I was givin a package by my mother-in-law last year for my birthday and Christmas and I was just able to get to it this year like two weekends ago. Playing on the excavator was a lot of fun so It was for just over an hour definitely worth doing it again I was told was rather expensive, but it was fun. It's been about 20 years since I've been on the excavator. The staff there were friendly really good people and the person who calls out what to train you is spot on and she knows her in a quick rundown over the sticks controls. The receptionist she is extremely friendly, good people and the guy who does the 15 minute safety video he cracked me up! Definitely worth it for members of family or a work bonding. An outstanding experience!!! The folks there are extremely friendly and really take care of you. They walk you through every step to start via an orientation video, then some simple maneuvers on the machine. You'll get comfortable with the controls just in time for the obstacle course. My wife is adventurous so she had wanted to drive a large excavator. So we drove 1100 miles from Virginia to MN. She got her wish and drove a 24 ton large excavator as her birthday present . Her instructor "Adam " have her great instructions through a headset and she did a great job digging holes, knocking tennis balls off of traffic cones and even picking up a jeep with the bucket and moving it some 25 feet away. This was an awesome Father's Day gift for my FIL. We were two couples- my husband and I (in our 30s) and my in laws (in their 60s). All had a great time doing this unique and unusual activity. Adam was a great guide - funny and helpful. We did the dueling adventure package with excavators. We played with excavators for a couple of hours-- digging holes and then tackling some specific challenges like stacking tires and putting basketballs in tire "hoops." It was enough time but don't think we would've been bored had we stayed a bit longer. My in laws were concerned about whether climbing into the equipment would be challenging, but it was easy with a step ladder and Adam supporting. Maybe next time. While I would say that this could attract more men than it does women, Extreme Sandbox is fun for everyone! I was able to experience this with my company as a work outing and would totally be down for coming back! The equipment to operate was as fun as could be, the "tour guides" (not sure what else to call them) were excellent, and it was great to pull out my inner man that needs to operate heavy machinery and get dirty every once in a while. Only downside was that the "tour guides" were a bit vulgar for me! Other than that, this was a GREAT experience! read more

Extremely fun, and an extremely cool experience. I came with my dad and we did the Dueling Excavators. It was a blast! We battled with 19 ton excavators by digging holes and doing an obstacle course (I won). My dad would want me to add his bit, staff was "very professional". Which they were! They were humorous, and very accommodating. We were going to be late due to my work schedule and the location (which isn't actually that far), and we ended up being more late than we expected and they were kind enough and lucky enough and things worked out for us. Adam was our instructor/fun coordinator and he was awesome! He had a great sense of humor, taught us well, and encouraged safety and fun. FYI this place is open ALL SEASONS! The inside of the excavator is fully enclosed, so on the 80 degree day I went, I had the AC blasting, and when you go in the winter, you'll still be nice and cozy inside! And think of how cool it would look digging around with snow scattered on the ground. If you're looking for some extreme fun, and a unique activity, definitely come here. This was a total blast. My 15 year old son and I did the dueling excavators through an obstacle course. Great instruction and you are in total control. No tethers or governors. You go from digging a hole, to knocking tennis balls off cones, to moving a car, among other fun tasks. You have two-way headsets on the entire time, so you can hear and talk to each other, as well as spectators. That made the trash talking fun. This was soooo much fun. My sister and I did an obstacle course with each of us in a bulldozer. We dug and built our own ramp, then balanced on top of it, then went around barrels forwards and backwards, pushed a van, pushed a huge tire and raced back to the ramp for the win! A ton of fun. And our instructor was super cool, helpful and witty. Def worth it. And there was time for pics with a 2yr old on the dozers and the fire engine too. read more

Lots of fun with great instruction and emphasis on safety. It takes a lot of concentration to do the obstacle course and Jenny was a great director. YES! I had so much fun here!! Its a little bit off the beaten path but easy to find. It is run by two super nice and hilarious gentlemen. Def check out their website. You can choose between 3 pieces of construction equipment (I picked the excavator, or as my 2 yr old says, the digger) when you make your reservation. I really loved the digger, it was a blast. When you show up to your appointment you get some safety instruction and the basics on how to run the machinery. Then you get to play! You wear this headset so you can hear and talk to everyone while you're doing your thing so if (when!) you forget how to run it you can get some assistance. =) There is an obstacle course that is pretty sweet and its fun to challenge your new skills. I did see a smashed up car in the corner of the lot so that may be a possible activity as well. I think you can participate starting at age 14. read more

I bought a sampler package for two for my husband for Christmas, and he and a friend went and played in the sand last week. They had the BEST time! Their smiles said it all--beaming from ear to ear! I have always wanted to drive a yellow digger and move dirt, and couldn't find an opportunity. I visited Minnesota last month and came across a flyer for Extreme Sandbox at the KMSP airport. I got to drive a backhoe and an excavator, move dirt and a car. It was one of the funnest things I've ever done (and I'm a pilot). Randy and Adam are funny and made my experience perfect. If we had an Extreme Sandbox in the state where I live, I'd have my colleagues and friends join me every year for an annual holiday event. read more

Fantastic time!!! We recently went to the Extreme Sandbox in Hastings for an afternoon of fun using a gift my wife had purchased for me. Although I had heard about this place I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. First thing you notice when arriving is all the equipment and the unique obstacles placed throughout...at this point you start to realize you'll soon be in that equipment having a great time. We checked in for our classic sandbox package (1 1/2 hours) and were directed to a conference room where we would be getting our instructions, watching a short video on the piece of equipment selected (I selected the excavator), and getting geared up. Once ready, Adam and I walked out to the "job site" and went through what was going to happen. They also have a couple of viewing areas that family and/or friends can watch from. Adam did a great job explaining what to expect and how to control the equipment. He was always communicating via headset what he wanted me to do and gently reminded me if I couldn't remember what to move. After some instruction it was time to start digging. I got to dig a deep hole (simple but fun...just like a kid at the playground) and then hit a ball off the pile using the excavator bucket like a golf driver, knock tennis balls off cones, play a little excavator basketball and lift and move a car. Oh yeah, if you just want to spin in circles you can do that too! The hour in the excavator went a lot quicker than expected but it was an awesome time. Adam was a great instructor who kept me focused and made sure I was having fun at the same time. When it was over we were able to take some photos next to the equipment to remember the experience (this gives you a great perspective on how big the equipment is). Would highly recommend this to anyone who has always wanted to operate heavy machinery and even to those who aren't sure...you'll have a blast! read more

surprised my husband with a 50th birthday party at Extreme Sandbox. Our entire group just absolutely loved the experience! We drove bulldozers, moved dirt with the excavators and the wheel loaders and then the grand finale at the end... My husband in an excavator crushing a car! Our group ranged in age from 14 to 60, everyone had turns on the equipment, favorites were excavator golf and driving the bulldozers over the huge mounds of dirt we created.
