The best bit about the shop though is the owner rob, he always looks like a old fashioned chip man, with his stripy apron and hat etc, but its his personality that sells this shop to you, he is so funny and when queing for your fish and chip supper you are always guarenteed a right laugh. The fish and chips were fantastic! I was surprised by my reaction to the sausage and the mushy peas. I ordered the mushy peas because I felt like that is one of those things like eating baked beans with your breakfast, you just had to try it once. I expected that I wouldn't care for them, but they were actually quite good. Also, I'm a huge sausage fan and one bite was enough for me. It just wasn't my cup of tea. They do great deals also, they do a selection called the meal deals which have some great meals at great bargain prices for eg. jumbo sausage chips and choice of gravy, curry sauce or peas for the grand total of 2.20. They also do a big lunchbox for 3.00 (i think) that consists of mini fish, chips and a sauase with choice of sauces/pea etc. They also do breakfasts and toasted sandwiches which have only recently been introcuced but seem to have gone down really well. They have also this week introduced rotesserie chicken, which i have not tried as yet - but have heard are great. There home made fishcakes also are amazing, they are so nice and worth that extra 20p. The queues can be out of the door on certain nights, but the staff are very efficent and they get to you quite quickly. The staff are great and the majority have worked there for years and year.the owner is a star, he is so proud of his store and his food and it shows, i think that is a great attitude to have and i think his customers come back to him again and again due to this and also the superb quality of the food. The interior has been gutted and totally redone and it took about a year to eventually open up. The inside is scrupulously clean, and kept that way by the staff at every opportunity. I live opposite and see them cleaning more than they serve sometimes. Food is what you'd expect from a chippie, with Pukka Pies and their own home made pies. Usual kebab meats etc. Home made chicken curry and recently, proper Piri-Piri cooked chicken cooked on the grill to order. I admit I don't eat there often only because it doesn't do anything for my waistline, but my wife assures me all is good. However the few times I have I can say it's always been top-notch nosebag. Staff are keen to help, and Dean is always pleased to see you, and have a chat. It can be quite busy at the usual times with queues out of the door, but I believe you can phone an order through, especially if it's for a large group! Price is on par with the other local chippies. Also there's parking outside. There's even a Coop in the same row so you can place your fish order and nip to the Coop for "extras". They can take card, cash and contactless. At non busy times you might have to wait a few minutes while they prep and cook fish, but it's worth it. Chicken takes a few minutes more, but that's worth it too. And no - I'm not getting a free fish supper for the review. I just like to praise where it's due.
