It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

They decided to point out that there was a Chase Bank next door and I could get more money. I told them I wanted the $150 style. After braiding, they tried to charge me $180. After arguing with me for about 5 minutes, they got $150 and I had no desire to give them a tip. Rude and attitudinal ladies spoke in their native tongue the entire time the braided my hair. I was very impressed that three ladies were able to do my complete head and help me out the door in two and one half hour. I was observed three other customers to come in while getting my hair braided that were also giving different prices on the phone and the price went from $180 on the phone to $220 when they arrived.. Good fast work, pricing trickery.

He's there to give you a haircut, but he's also there to spread some knowledge. He showed me how he was cutting my hair and why he was doing it. I wanted to change the way my hair looked in both style and color, and John was there to give feedback and what he thought was in my best interest. I felt like he should have charged for his consultation because he spent a GOOD amount of time providing advice and feedback, time that's worth money, especially when I was his last client for the day and it was getting late. Because he didn't charge extra for consultation, I provided a good tip. What I wish beforehand, which isn't really John's fault, is how to enter the building. It was late, so the door was locked -- luckily, there was someone who let me in. If you ever encounter this situation, just text John and he'll come open the door for you!
