Mr. Rooter was the only company to actually call me back / answer the phone. We scheduled an appointment and Rick came on scheduled time. He was efficient, clean, and did what he was asked to do. He was very helpful in providing us a number of tips on how to avoid future problems. The pricing, while not exactly the cheapest, was laid out clearly based on the service being provided (as opposed to per hour timing), and agreed to by me before service was performed (NO SURPRISES!). Overall, I was happy with the level of service we were given and would use them again in the future.

This is a mixed review. The quality of the plumbing work was satisfactory, but the company's…read morebusiness practices are deeply troubling and, in my view, predatory. I contacted John the Plumber to replace a rotted-out J-trap under my kitchen sink. I was informed that a consultation would cost $79 + HST, after which the technician would provide a quote for the job. Before the visit, I did my due diligence. I consulted friends in the trades and researched online. The going rate for a straightforward J-trap replacement consistently fell between $350 and $500. When the technician arrived, he quoted me $829 + HST--a wildly inflated figure for such a basic job. I immediately pushed back, stating clearly that this was nearly double the expected price range. I told them to keep the $79 consultation fee and that I would find another service provider. At that point, the technician's tone noticeably shifted. After a brief call to his manager, he came back with a revised quote of $449 + HST--almost half the original price. It was an obvious and troubling sign of intentional overcharging. Since I had already paid the $79, I agreed to proceed. The final bill came to $518, which was at the high end of the acceptable range, but within reason. The technician completed the job in under two hours and the work itself was well done. My issue is not with the workmanship, but with the company's pricing tactics. It's unacceptable to offer an initial quote that is so far above industry norms, only to dramatically lower it when challenged. This suggests a business model that relies on customer ignorance or reluctance to push back--particularly troubling in an industry that often deals with urgent situations where people may feel pressured to accept whatever number is presented. What happens to the uninformed or vulnerable customer who doesn't know to question the quote? They get exploited. That is not just bad business--it's unethical. Shame on you, John the Plumber. You need to be called out for this kind of behavior. It's shady, opportunistic, and erodes consumer trust. Do better.

Their pricing structure is simple - $60 for an in-home visit and an on-the-spot quotation for the work with no "hard sell" if you don't want to proceed. Aman arrived on time and with everything needed to complete the repair. He was friendly, courteous and informative throughout. I was told how much the work would cost and given an instant quotation on his iPad. I agreed and once the work was completed paid the invoice right on the device. Interac transfers are also accepted which is a nice alternative, but I always prefer to pay by card wherever possible. Before I booked with Living Services, I researched the cost involved so I knew it wouldn't be cheap. They might be a little more expensive than other companies but given the convenience and accurate time slots for an in-home visit I was fine with that. With today's busy lifestyle I didn't want to be waiting around all day for a contractor visit. From start to finish a great experience matched with excellent customer service. The booking process, appointment confirmation and reminder texts meant that I was kept up-to-date throughout the process. The work was completed promptly and Aman took away all of the old parts and garbage for disposal, so there was minimal cleanup required afterwards. Highly recommended!

I can't say enough good things about Nazar and his crew…read more We hired Canadian Rooter for the first step in finishing our basement. This was a big complicated job for a 100 year old house where the basement hadn't been touched in 100 years. The job included removal of the old concrete and walls, new drainage, waterproofing, sump pump, crawlspace excavation, and a new concrete slab with hydronic infloor heating. Just as the job started we had a family emergency that kept us extremely stressed, busy, and away from home for days at a time. Nazar said "leave it to me" and took care of everything. His crew, including Andrew, are extremely knowledgeable, hard working (I mean really hard working!), and completely trustworthy good guys. They did an outstanding job, handling all of the inevitable complications (city drain that needed clearing, permit issues, last minute change in design from the engineer) - keeping me posted but not asking for anything from me. There are probably other companies that can do this work, but I doubt you'll find one run by someone with the honesty, standards, and integrity that Nazar has.
