Dr. John Kwon's program to train dancers as athletes is unlike anything being offered anywhere. He gave each of our company girls an individual evaluation assessing their particular weakness and made individualized programs. Along with Marlene Hall's Therabar classes, the individualized athletic training seems a sure bet to take technical training far beyond years of traditional ballet class repetition. We absolutely love the Master Classes each week that keeps the fresh influx of ideas and choreography flowing. We were absolutely floored by the summer program where there were 60+ guest instructors all active in the industry and academic dance. We couldn't have gotten all that in any intensive anywhere even in LA. I thought my kid was just burning out on 20h/wk dance schedule but it turns out she was looking for a new level and for coaches that take her seriously as an athlete and an artist.

UC Irvine would not allow community members to audit classes. The modern classes that I did find were all geared for children and teens. One day, I met a dancer who recommended I look into Deborah Benson's Lyrical Modern Dance Class through Laguna Beach's Recreation Department. I have to admit that I was initially skeptical of taking a class through the city. I had visions of a mirror-less space with concrete floors. Was I wrong! Who would have guessed that Laguna Beach has such incredible studios -- large and airy spaces with skylights to boot?! Deborah's class has been the best part of living in Laguna Beach (and that's saying a lot, because there are many great things about living here!) Deborah is an amazing dancer, talented choreographer, and a patient and generous instructor. She has experience performing and teaching throughout the country -- in dance studios, schools, and colleges. Her style is José Limón-esque. This is a perfect class for an adult who used to dance and wants to get back into it. Classmates are warm, kind, and non-judgmental. And we're all ages -- from our 20's through 70's! Deborah currently teaches a 1.5 hour class at the Susi Q on Saturdays at 10 am. You can sign up for the session through the City of Laguna Beach (which works out to only be about $10 per class) or drop in for $15. Deborah is currently also teaching a Tuesday evening class at Lang Park. You do NOT need to be a Laguna Beach resident to take either class. Parking is free.

Our experience at other studios were, some kids took it seriously and some didn't. My daughter grew so much as a dancer at Variant Movement, training with Dani the owner. My daughter wanted to push herself and train to better herself and her teams. Her mentality shifted and watching her progress was amazing. Dani is so good at fine tuning and her choreography is exciting and showcases the kids strengths. She really cares and it shows. There passion for dance shines through each time as we are always welcomed with a big smile. My daughter loves her dance class and looks forward to it every week! Very versatile, graceful, complete with expressions. And then again not every professional is good at teaching. Amna's teaching is reflected in her students performances. Not only is her choreo class apart, but her knack at teaching techniques to students is amazing. Just watch any of her students perform .. starting from little kids to women's groups. She will challenge you and give you the tools to overcome those challenges. Her recitals are mind blowing. She will let her students showcase their other musical talents. She is also present to everybody's spending limitation and is cautious about costume spending. Just give her a try. I am her student and hope to learn from her forever!!

Stayed here overnight and this hotel does NOT disappoint!…read more I came here a couple years earlier for an overnight stay, just like this trip I went on. Instead on this trip, I had a free room available in my account, which I wanted to redeem before expiring. First of all, the front desk people are very sweet and were very knowledgeable about the hotel and the amenities included. It was also around $35 for overnight parking, which I guess was okay considering I was only staying one night. The parking garage is adjacent to the hotel. Couple of the reasons I came is for the swimming pool and the gym. It seems this is what the hotel revolves around; that and the kid care. Entering into the hotel room, it was super clean and very nice. They have a no-smoking policy in the room, which I love because certain hotels don't have that kind of policy and the rooms smells horrible. When I woke up in the morning, I had a view of the pool and spa. It seemed there was a class in the pool and it looked really fun and I didn't know they had classes. Unfortunately, I didn't have any time to see the gym, but I will my next trip to this hotel. Next time I head to this hotel, I'll have more to review but for now, this is all I have to say. They have events for the holidays and socials as well. The workers are all really friendly and remember us every time we come by. The child care services are convenient for us to work out or hang out and get some work done. Our kid loves the staff,except for one person, but all the rest are amazing. The only thing, I wish they had a track or allowed us to run around the building while our kid is at the child care. Treadmills are tough for me. I tried the facial services too and the esthetician was great. She recommended some treatments and it was quite relaxing.
