In the spring of 2024, SARAH HERNANDEZ contacted me for a job and said she found my resume on a job website. She went through all the info and told me that she was going to send my resume into the company, and I told her I was interested. Then she ghosted me. When I called back to find out where she was I was told that her kid was sick and no one knew about my resume or the company she had submitted my resume to. I never heard from her again. Why couldn't she give my info to another co-worker to pick up where she left off? That is extremely unprofessional even given those circumstances. I have had plenty of events in my life where I had to notify my job and I did so because I am a professional. Then recently I got another email from her. I didn't remember who she was but I replied with a phone call. She didn't remember me. She had just sent me the email not moments before. THAT is unprofessional. Then she made a huge deal about the work I do - half of what I do is I am a FULL-CHARGE BOOKKEEPER. Full-Charge means I do everything in bookkeeping however, Ms. Hernandez had no idea what that meant and told me that the client needed someone who knew how to reconcile. I had to inform her what that actually meant because she said I would have to resubmit my resume to her with the word "reconcile" on it. THAT is unprofessional. Today I wrote to her for the 2nd time inquiring if the company she gave my resume to called her. She told me that they had not. She told me that she understood that I was frustrated. Here's the thing - I work with other employment agencies where they told me that even though companies are looking to hire, they are hesitant because of the proposed tariffs that "Idiot" Trump is going to impose. That is the way they related that to me. That is the way I related the same to Ms Hernandez, who reprimanded me and told me that I was UNPROFESSIONAL? I promptly told her I no longer needed her assistance. These are very trying times to be out of work, which I still am. I have every right to relate to the person who is recruiting how I feel, and I used the same jargon that was used with me and I had no problems with it. Doesn't matter if you are for or against him as she said she has been and was the unprofessional one in this short business relationship. Her meteoric rise to manager in 4 years is the result of a revolving door in your business and not because she earned it - she was probably the only one left. While I am still looking for work, I wanted to write to you to let you know what had happened and that I will be leaving this same missive as a review of your company online. People have the right to speak freely about anything. Hernandez needs client relationship skills, which she lacks. I and the general public still have freedom of speech even though the GenZ think otherwise AND NJ is still a Democratic state that went solidly for Harris. While I am sure you'll stick up for Hernandez I find it appalling that you allow such an unprofessional person to deal with the public representing your company. They should take the word PROFESSIONALS from their name. They are anything but that. read more

Gregg is terrible !! All the interviews where great however the problem is trying to make you or convince you to do a role you never applied for. Then lie to you about his director not being there. He mentioned next week she will be back but never heard him or her the following week. That is Completely unprofessional. There not looking to hire anyone but to go through motions and pretend to hire. I hate employment express and hope Gregg loses his job so he can go through hiring process with companies to get played and waste your time. People need work and y'all just playing games. read more

I'm rating this a star higher than it really deserves because the 2-star rating signifies, "Meh. I've experienced better," and I don't know that I really have. If it sounds as if I'm damning this place with faint praise...that's pretty accurate. (Long-winded life story to follow...go to the last paragraph or 2 if you're really interested in what I have to say about "Express Employment Professionals.") When I graduated college in the 1980's (to today's students, I say, in all humility-- focus, and go for that Masters; a BA doesn't really cut it anymore), I was going through a sort of delayed adolescence, and drinking and partying were higher on my priority list than acting responsibly and seeking work. Still, the parties weren't going to pay for themselves, so "temp" work seemed at the time like a reasonable transition from college life to the responsibility and commitment of a full-time "real" job. At the time, places like Kelly Services (I think it was "Kelly Girls" back in those unenlightened days) and Pomerantz (which assuredly no longer exists) offered jobs for those seeking work. They were usually "temporary," with the possibility of the job becoming "permanent" dangled in front of the prospective employee like a carrot dangled before the eyes of a bewildered jackass. I signed up with Pomerantz. The jobs they found for me were tedious, full of numbing monotony, offered low pay, no benefits. It was exploitation, pure and simple, but I was less than politically aware back then, and even if I had been politically aware, I was too detached/nihilistic in my outlook to really attempt to do anything on my own about it. If I could afford the booze and...uh...other "incidentals," life was good. One "temp" job was at AT&T, and I actually liked it. The people I worked with seemed to like me. I attempted to make it permanent, but AT&T was going through massive, Stalin-esque layoffs at the time, and it wasn't to be. Finally, I was able to secure an actual, permanent job through my own efforts. Permanent, of course, is relative. I lasted 23 years before my entire department was laid off. I like to think I had matured over those 23 years, but I was middle-aged now, without specialized or especially marketable job skills, and suddenly I was jobless. Also, the whole nature of applying for jobs had changed radically from the days of my callow youth. Back then, you sent out letters to prospective employers. You either received a phone call indicating "Come in for an interview" or a polite letter back with the message "Thanks, but no thanks." Now you posted on Monster or Indeed. I didn't even have a computer. I panicked. An alcoholic, drug-addicted friend who had lost his own "head-hunting" service recommended a colleague. I never got past the "colleague's" secretary and he never bothered returning any of my phone calls. I get it that it's a cold, hard world out there but...thanks, dude. For nothing. The first agency I used was Apple One in Edison. A pleasant young woman with discolored teeth interviewed me. She talked with me for what seemed like a long time, and I was reasonably hopeful, but I never heard back from them. In retrospect, I think their focus was more on white-collar jobs (I'm not exactly blue collar, but not really white collar either-- is there such a classification as "gray collar?"). It would have been nice if they had told me that up front, maybe steered me in the right direction instead of wasting my time and theirs. Then again, I hadn't paid them anything, so maybe I was expecting too much. Next try was "Express Employment." I ended up interviewing at 3 of their locations-- Hackettstown, Fairfield, and Parsippany. Hackettstown and Fairfield cost me a tank of gas, a ride out to northern NJ, and the loss of hours from my life that I'll never recover. Parsippany? The young lady I interviewed with was humorless, not exactly one to inspire confidence, but she was the only person I interacted with who sent me some leads. I wish I could remember her name; I wish her well, wherever she is now. Hopefully she's moved on from Express Employment. She at least tried. I didn't follow up on those leads, as I was actually able to get another job on my own (actually, through the help of a friend-- nepotism is much more effective than using a "head-hunter" or an employment agency, at least in my experience). But in my depressing history with employment agencies, Express Employment Professionals in Parsippany were the only ones who ever did ANYTHING for me in my frustrating, fruitless job search. They didn't do much, but it was something, as opposed to nothing. If you have a friend (a clean and sober one, that is) or a relative who knows somebody who maybe knows somebody...that's the route I'd recommend. It's the one that worked for me. If you go the employment agency route, hopefully your experience will be less frustrating and futile than mine was. I wish you luck. I think you'll need it. read more

For such a small office, there is such high turnover within the internal staff where nearly everyone leaves on bad terms. It is a family owned business so there is no HR department, which this company DESPERATELY needs. The commission structure is unstable and salary base is very low compared to other local competitors. There is mistrust between employees and management and A LOT of drama in the office. There is no room for advancement within this company no matter how many times the family tells you there is. Employees are treated like a number that can easily be replaced. The training process, well actually lack there of, consists of being thrown into the work right away (probably because someone just got fired or quit) and if you can't keep up then you are useless to them. As for goals of the office, well I like to call them unrealistic expectations, because that is what they are. Express is a corporation and has set goals and incentives for the franchises, while this Parsippany office sets its own goals, which are very high and in the couple years I was there the goals was never reached. They set goals without explaining HOW to accomplish them. It is clear the current manager does not know how to run an office, for there is no leadership or support from management. Since there is no loyalty, trust or growth no matter how much the management says that there is, it's unbelievable how they are still in business. My advice, this is not a place to grow your career. It is good for short-term experience. However, you can also gain that at another staffing company in the same town as well. You can bust your butt every day for these people but it will never be good enough and they will end up slicing your commission structure anyway. read more

I am a former employee of Express Employment Professionals in Parsippany. First and foremost, I would like to add that I had worked in their office as an outside sales rep, not as a temp. The staff within the office are very nice, the training very educational, and the working environment - very beneficial when it comes to adding to job skills. The pay was a bit below fair for the amount of work provided and the commission really was pennies. I do remember spending a grueling 2-4 hours in 80+ degree heat, fully dressed in a suite, to market to 20+ business's door to door. That's about the only true con of the position, but it's the nature of the beast...lots of driving, walking, and doors slammed in your face. The rest of your job required a lot of thinking and being pulled by other employees or management to work on several projects at once, such as: Creating personalized notes, follow up calls, creating gift drop off ideas, entering data from your day into the computer, debating on a price to provide to the customer for staffing, planning your next day, etc. It doesn't sound like much, but it is very difficult to do in a short 8 hour day. In all honesty and respect, this work is cut out for someone who may be diagnosed with ADD. If you don't have it, you will develop it after 6 months of working in the office of Express. Though you should never discuss your personal life or weekend plans at the work place- it's frowned upon to bring anything up. Even if you mentioned it in a short 8 world sentence. You are to remain in silence and not ask questions often; if you do, it must be of high importance. It's all business. The manager and the higher ups both have different expectations on how you do things. You may bring in lots of business and leave every day for your outside calls at a specific time. Your fung shway, your method of what works. You may get the upmost respect from the higher ups but your manager will discipline you and rush you out the door to get everything done. This messes up everything, because timing really is key. I think the hours are decent, the freedom to go out on the road and not be chained to the office all day. The employees are enjoyable; a true team that works together. My only tip to you is to not get burned out too quickly. This isn't a slow paced job. read more

First off, if you're looking to start a career in staffing be aware that competitors pay about $10K more per year for entry level recruiters. Their base salary is extremely low and their commission is low as well. In this workplace you are expected to sit at your desk at all times, avoid speaking to your co workers and be able to produce numbers in areas where you receive poor training. Poor training is due to the fact that there is high turnover and no leadership. Employees quit and get fired left and right. There is no HR department so if you would like to discuss anything you will do so with managers in the room together. Managers are family members so essentially if you displease one, you are on bad terms with all of them. There is so much mistrust between employees and management therefore I have seen and experienced a lot of drama! No matter the situation, they create drama. They have a common practice where they like to send employees "home for the day" and you will be demanded to write a letter explaining why you want to work there. Their practices are unethical. Needless to say employees are treated like children where it's unacceptable to even take your lunch sometimes. Management's expectations are quite unrealistic where they set goals for the week, month or quarter but do not manage or train to accomplish such goals. At that point when they are displeased you are in for rude commentary and/or yelling from the owners. The most unfortunate experience here was seeing many good employees who are smart with great ideas, great work ethic and who are overall great people leave or fired because of the drama caused by management (family) and poor leadership. If you're looking for a career, this isn't the place to grow. The only positive thing I walked away with was meeting amazing co workers who became friends. read more
