During your first visit, the office admin will have you fill out the standard staffing agency paperwork, e.g. consent forms, W4, HIPAA, employer referrals, after which you probably have to wait in one of the chairs placed along the wall. Years ago, computerized skills testing was also administered here, but now candidates can take the battery of tests online. Candidates pay nothing to use Robert Half's services, as the employers are the paying customers. The recruiters here are understandably very busy, so even if you have an appointment and no other candidates are in line before you, don't expect to be seen immediately. Consider bringing your own reading material or using the downtime to use the restrooms in the hallway outside the suite. I encourage first-time applicants looking to get their feet wet to apply with one of RH's placement services, but also to keep an open mind and to make an effort to understand how staffing agencies work. The true clients of staffing agencies are not the job applicants like you and me but rather the companies that pay the staffing agencies to fill open positions. Matching a qualified candidate to a job opening for the client is the primary service of staffing agencies; providing work for the unemployed is only a secondary consideration. For this reason, no staffing agencies can ever guarantee employment to any candidate. That being said, RH is responsible not only for securing me my first temp job out of college, but also for placing me in a full-time permanent position years later. With its wide network of staffing professionals in NJ, perhaps it can do the same for you.

I interviewed with 1 company in which I felt very strong about. However, was asked to wait 1 month until they could hire me. They refused to sign a letter of acknowledgement or offer letter to wait out that time. Jessica didn't make me aware of that either. I don't like how they immediately want to change everything--take away your cover letter, change the resume so it has Robert Half as the letter head (change fonts, formatting, phrasing, etc.) Just a totally unprofessional experience and I think RH is a joke. Several indian guys kept calling me early in the morning everyday like around 5 am asking me for a lot of personal information. One of those so called recruiters kept asking for a picture of a check from my own bank account. That seemed really suspicious to me they didn't even tell me what they were using my personal information for. Those Indian guys are very hard to understand because they dont speak English very fluently. A couple days later I got a call from this older lady from Sunrise Systems and she was basically harassing me on the phone because I wouldn't provide her with the information she wanted. I eventually got hired with a job in downtown Phoenix through this agency (since I was desperate for a job, I needed the money and I wasnt getting any offers from anywhere else). I started having issues with an employee at the job site. The mangers and supervisors at that job site were not helpful. I reported the situation to Sunrise and they didnt do anything about it except document it. Since they didn't take any action I decided to leave the job site and this job agency. Upon making this review I did some research on this place and found a lot of people had similar experiences with this company on getting scammed. That's a huge red flag I should've looked into before accepting that job. I would avoid this company like the plague.

If you're driving southbound on Main St., the agency's office is located inside the big brown building just past Amboy Avenue; it's two buildings down from Angies' Cafe and Bakery. There is a driveway leading to a large parking lot behind the building; the first few spots are reserved. Enter through the front of Bldg. 276, and take the flight of stairs to your left; the office will be on the left side. I did not catch her name, but the test proctor is really nice. The testing room itself is small--it has probably five or six workstations available--but it does the job; it was also clean and kept nice and cold thanks to both a fan and A/C system. There were no distractions while I was testing, but the A/C and/or fan may be loud for some; the dividers between workstations may also move every now and then due to the strong fan. Important: Unlike PearsonVUE testing centers, there are no lockers. Thus, I recommend that you bring nothing except whatever you're permitted to take into the testing area with you--no cellphones, study material, purses, wallets, or even extra articles of clothing. The proctor will provide you with paper, pencils, and earplugs should you need them.

Ah...nope. All my dreams up in smoke. Never heard back. Nothing. Just the sound of crickets chirping from over in the direction of Edison. I get it that the job market out there can be tough...especially these days...and people come to these interviews with varying degrees of ability and experience, but why waste people's time if you really can't accomplish what you advertise? And don't have the common courtesy or decency to maybe reach out and let the "client" know...well...something? Anything? "Can't find any openings right now that match your qualifications, but...hey!...they're looking for apple pickers up in Chazy, NY! Beautiful scenery, outdoor work in the country air, bonding with your fellow apple pickers, maybe a free apple or 2 come lunchtime..." Or--- "Sorry, we can't help right now--- try again later maybe." Or--- "Sorry, you're a hopeless schmuck with a crummy attitude. Listen, there's a soup kitchen on the South Side of town..." Or--- "Hey, go f... yourself and get outa this office before I call security!" (Wonder how much they're paying security these days?) I suspect I would have done better with them if I had been seeking only temporary work, something without any benefits or job security (although job security is a tenuous thing everywhere these days). I suspect a lot of these "employment agencies" exist only as mechanisms in the furtherance of exploitation. To be fair, I'm sure AppleOne isn't unique in this regard. But it was my first experience with an "employment agency" and it left a bad taste. Real bad. Thankfully, I was able to find another job on my own. A legitimate job with benefits, professional standards, and reasonable security. Have I the misfortune to ever find myself jobless again (it's a terrifying experience and I don't recommend it to anybody), I suppose I may, in desperation, have to turn to the services of some kind of employment agency. While meeting with her, she was attentive to my career interests, reviewed my resume and skills, and gauged my interest in several opportunities. It was my first time going through an agency, and even though I had a lot of (admittedly stupid) questions, she clarified them all politely and patiently. When it was interview day, she called me to check how I was doing before and after. Within the past month I've received more job offers and interview opportunities from openings I applied to independently, but the job I landed through AppleOne has better pay. I'm sorry that the last reviewer's experience didn't work out for him, but overall AppleOne was awesome for me, and basically saved me from drowning in crippling student loans. I'd recommend this agency to any of my friends.
