These guys are great, been going here for years now and they're always willing to check out little things for us on a moment's notice and open longer than most shops. Their style is more casual than corporate and that is great for some people and makes others nervous if that's what you're used to, but they're all about fixing anything that is a true mechanical issue or safety hazard, but won't ever push you on anything cosmetic or non-essential, which is great if you're not a millionaire with a car budget to match! They're all much more into doing than talking at this shop, so if I had to give constructive criticism I'd say communicating more about the car's issues/options would make people feel better, but if you have to choose between a mechanic that will talk to you or one who will just fix what's wrong at a very fair/low price, I'll take the latter every single day. :) read more

I was pulled over at the gas station to the left of Express Auto Center trying to fill my tire with air. It was noticeably flat but i could not find any punctures so i assumed it could be refilled with the air pump machine. Well, the machine would fill my other 3 tires but not the one that was flat. I even had a nice group of people test my pressure and they believed there must be a puncture. I was honestly in a pretty bad situation. Had to be somewhere pretty soon, and couldn't really afford to drive on it and ruin the rims as it was super close to being rim on pavement. The group that checked my gauge mentioned i should try to walk over to Express Auto to see if they could patch it. I walked in, and was immediately greeted by the owner and the friendly workers. I explained I was stuck on the other side of their shop. Without hesitation, he sent me an awesome guy to come look at my car with me. He jacked up my wheel at the air pump and literally carried my wheel back with him to the store. The whole time I was there they never tried to sell me on anything and I could tell they genuinely wanted to help. After only like 10 minutes with no appointment, the man who helped me with my tire walked back over to my car and explained that the tire i had mustve been sealed wrong because it was leaking air. There were no punctures so I wouldnt have been able to figure it out. He said that he tested it and resealed it with some adhesive and made sure it did not continue to deflate. Jacked up the car, and put my tire back on. The whole time I felt like i was a hassle because they did not have to help me at all really. I go back to the store to thank them and see how much it would cost and the owner tells me that I am good he does not want any payment...I couldnt believe it. How friendly and helpful they were, let alone that he wouldnt even charge me? I returned to the store to try and give him at least some cash because it was so helpful and i greatly appreciated everyone there. He refused. He said to give it to some of those who may be in more need. Honestly made my day and reminded me there are still good people in this world. I was driving back to south Florida and kept needing to pull over to fill my tire with air. The tire did not seem like it was flat, but leaking. I was In Kentucky at the time and this place, being in Knoxville was about 150miles away. I called Auto Express after looking it up on Google maps and verified it with Yelp. 5 stars. Without hesitation, I called. Initially, I was not impressed with the phone conversation as the guy on the other end didn't pick up with an "Auto Express, how may I help you?" , but rather picked up and said "Hello" as if to welcome the dead silence that followed. After clarifying with the guy on the phone that I had called the right place and asking if they sold tires (thinking for sure I would have to buy a full set or something) he said "Yeah, bring it in. The sooner the better." I was off put that they guy didnt ask for any information about my car or situation. Fast forward, I pull up to the shop. I don't see any tire selection in the store front or a street facing garage (must be in the back). I came in and asked for the guy who I talked to on the phone. Saying nothing, the guy instead just asked for my key. Hesitating, I held the keys in my hand, dangling them a bit, and said "don't you want to look at it first? I didn't even tell you what kind of car.." The guy cut me off, barking "do you want me to look at it, or do you want me to fix it!?". I submitted to him that I wanted him to fix it and surrendered my key... tire fixed in like 15min, no line, no wait, no charge. In summary, this place is a great place to take your car. Just expect that the people running the place are a little socially awkward and/or lacking in social skill. Overall solid job. read more

I had some problems with one of my cars and wasn't happy with where I was currently taking my vehicles for repair. I asked a friend who to check out and she emphatically suggested Express Auto on Sutherland Ave. from the front it doesn't look like a big garage, but they do repair in garage in back and have six or seven bays it looks like. They got me fixed up quick, for a fair price, and are super nice people. I would suggest them to anyone. read more

I have been bringing two vehicles here for several years (my aging Nissan Altima) and my wife's Honda Odyssey. Every time I bring either vehicles here Joe and Ali always fix the problem quickly and at very reasonable and fair prices. They are exceptionally honest and highly skilled. I have always left actually paying less than I had anticipated in my mind it was going to cost largely because they don't seem to markup the cost of parts very much at all if any. Apparently arriving at 6:45 am with a specific written request for a front brake disc replacement and an estimate for ADDITIONAL repairs isnt sufficient communication with "Joe"/owner or Ali/brother-mgr to get a front brake repair. Ali insisted I do all the repairs "they felt" were necessary or nothing at all, never mind my time or money. I called at 9:45 and was told the mechanics hadn't come in yet.... but at 3:00 it's too late for a front disc brake replacement? Fast talking, heavily accented, verbal quotes over the phone using loose, alternate part "terminology" is not what I requested either. [Replace front brake pads and give an written estimate for the suggested repairs connected to the noise in the front wheel area]. I called back in 30 minutes to respond to this verbal "estimate", after checking my finances, still 2 hours before closing and was told it was "too late, we already put it back together, come get your car"!? Rudely spoken to by Ali and Joe acted impotent to make good on the repair request before closing. This is after he acknowledged "they misunderstood" both the verbal and the written repair request. "Joe"/owner was who I spoke to face to face yesterday to set up the appointment and at drop-off, he appeared to read and understand my written request. This was a very disappointing and unprofessional interaction - a day wasted for my efforts and inconvenience. "Joe" did say I could come back and leave the car again tomorrow ( I work) or Monday, ( I work), as though my time and schedule are wide open and free enough to dedicate two days to a brake job! At my business, if WE dropped the ball on the customers request WE make it right, even if its inconvenient. A garage where the mechanic only works 10-3 seems odd too. A wriiten estimate was refused multiple times??!! The kicker is, as I was leaving Ali said don't come back...... No worries, I won't be back. read more

After my car was (mis)diagnosed (at a garage in Sequoyah Hills) as having a bad cylinder, needing expensive and time consuming labor to get it running again, I took my car to EAC to hopefully trade for parts toward a used car. Joe ran another diagnostic on the car, at no charge, and told me all I needed was a new ignition coil - which he replaced for under $55 - nearly 3 times less than what I was stuck with at the other garage. Fast, friendly, efficient and HONEST workmanship. read more

Met this business a couple of years ago when looking to buy a car on Craigslist. The people were very receptive and more than willing to help me. Turns out I didn't buy a car from them. The car I did buy (from someone else) was nice but ended up with a worn out engine. When trying to decide what to do, I once again drove by, and thought, why not? I researched the business and decided this was the place. I called, they researched. I called back. Five days later my car was ready. Not only ready, but other "things" with my car were also repaired. Including a new engine mount, battery, and a clunk which had developed. Not only that they detailed my car for me! So far the car drives like a dream and the engine has a six month warranty. I cannot say how satisfied I am with Express Auto. Except I think my tire pressure is low. I have an ancient Jeep whose radio antenna cable disintegrated this summer. I finally noticed this place a few blocks from home and stopped in this morning. The cable is an unusual one and the radio guy decided the best thing to do was to splice it with another cable he had in his little radio parts graveyard. Man is good with a soldering iron. He slid the cable back through the antenna port into the jeep and unfortunately the cable is now too short, but I pulled the radio out of the dash and hooked the cable up and got reception. I asked how much he wanted and he just said, "Whatever you feel like." I'm happy this guy is in the neighborhood! read more

I've trusted Express Auto for many years. They repaired a difficult Ford Taurus station wagon that three other shops had been unable to keep functioning (although all three charged more than Express). Eventually I had to give up the Taurus but I keep coming back to Express Auto because I respect Joe the owner; appreciate his non-greedy attitude, and trust the demonstrated expertise of the Express Auto staff. I have a 2009 Mercedes with a tire pressure monitor light blinking which was killing me. I never new that express auto center was a repair shop. Stopped by and Joe took a look. He found the system just needed to be reset and everything is working now. read more
