I brought a bridesmaid dress in for alterations. The dress was from an online website that sent in a garment with so much extra fabric and off-kilter fittings. The women at Express Alteration & Tailoring were very courteous and quick to work. They pinned and marked the dress in an efficient manner. They said it would be ready for pickup in one week, which was a relief to hear that it wouldn't take longer. The prices were steeper than other places where I've gotten dresses tailored, but they delivered on the finished dress and it fit like a glove! The dress wears beautifully; I would even consider wearing it for another formal occasion. Steaming was included in the price of my alterations. Pro-tip: bring the shoes you are going to wear with your garment so it gets tailored precisely for your event. DON'T go here. They do shoddy work. I got some pants hemmed 2 weeks ago... I asked for the cuff to remain in, I got them back with no cuff. I wore them once and the stitching is already coming undone in both hems (see picture). I also had them shorten the sleeves on a Columbia long sleeve shirt... Not good and definitely overpriced. Very lazy work, I could have done what they did and I can't even sew. I paid $55 to have a dress altered, and all they did was "sew" cups into it. They didn't even bother to put the cups under the fabric, they just put them right on top. And by "sew" I mean they didn't even sew the entire cup in, they just put 3 tiny points of stitching on the top, so the bottom part of it is flopping around. They did not ask me to try on my items before I left to ensure that I was happy with them. I will not be returning and I do not recommend this place. read more

I usually NEVER write reviews, however I went to this business on Tuesday, showed the seamstress my dress I made that needed fixing, she then advised me would be $85 to put in a zipper and a panel in back, however she told me to go home sew the trim in and bring back, I went back Wednesday and was quoted $250 by Katie. I was not intending on paying that however I needed and wanted the dress fixed. After going to the store and pricing more fabric and cost of alteration (or revamping dress) I decided I didn't want to spend the money. I then contacted my sister explained the situation and mailed the dress to her to fix as she is an excellent seamstress ( I didn't want to bother her to fix my mistake). Long story short the seamstress Katie started sending me text messages (as my phone blocks unknown numbers for everyone and I never answered her calls) ,and once I said in a text I decided to scrap the dress, and I apologized for not contacting her, she became VERY RUDE, and made mention "you get what you pay for", I used her time, so I responded back, told her she was rude, and I eventually called her the "B" word, because she just kept sending me text messages. She also made mention of me being "black", she specifically said "That's why BLACK is always BLACK" in her text and "karma will get your ass", and also called me a "truth black bi**h".. I finally had to go on my Verizon account and block her. If she would have just taken my apology that I sent her and left it alone I would have never written a review, I didn't feel as though I owed her a full blown explanation, just told her I wasn't getting dress fixed (with her), I know time is money, and they did pin the dress, is it my fault they didn't take the pins out?, 15 years she should know, perhaps if she charged a fitting fee she wouldn't be so belligerent , but seems as though she was pissed I didn't want to pay her $250 dollars for dress alterations (mind you I GOT 2 DIFFERENT QUOTES FROM HERE), and last time I checked, I can change my mind or decide where to spend my dollars. this girl says she has been in business 15 years, she was RUDE and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL, especially to keep sending me degrading text messages. Words are power and she must not know I have them too!! SO I say to all her future customers, BEWARE, they are nice until you tell them you don't want to give them your money. INCREDIBLE! My daughter's HOCO dress was altered weeks in advance, only to learn that it was too fitted and not going to be approved by her school. The evening BEFORE HOCO Express Alterations released the seams on a sequin dress (NOT easy) to make the dress looser to then pass approval and did this ALL by 10am the next morning! I'm giving 3 stars because I will say that the ladies who work here are very nice. However, I was disappointed in my experience. My dress was supposed to be ready by Saturday. I had a conflict and didn't get there to pick it up that day so I went on Monday and the dress was still not done yet. I was heading out of town for a wedding two days later so I said I had to pick it up by next day, no other option. The dress was ready but was left too long. The seamstress tried to convince me it was fine like that and, given how nervous I was to leave it there and not have it done in time, I just ended up taking it. I'm disappointed because, had the dress been ready on time, I may have felt more comfortable leaving it to be fixed. The alterations also cost more than the actual dress itself (almost double). I wasn't given any compensation for the dress being left too long and not being done on time. Since I was on a time crunch and needed it for a wedding, I let it be but for future items that aren't time-sensitive, I'll go elsewhere. read more

I brought a unique project to these wonderful people for which I needed a bit of imagination and creativity to fix the major damage I had done by doing this project myself the absolute wrong way. So a bit of back story... I have outdoor curtains on my lanai to help block the hot afternoon Florida sun from baking my patio furniture and apartment. Since I face West toward the Gulf and I'm on the 3rd floor, I get very high winds during storms. This was causing my curtains to fly around and eventually move out of place down the rods rendering them useless to do their job. So I made a rope guard to hold the curtains in place, but even that proved useless when the winds pulled the curtains right out from behind the rope. Then I had this "brilliant" idea of cutting slits on each end of the 3 panels and running the rope through the slits to hold the curtains in place. Worked great! However, I had mutilated my curtains by cutting horribly jagged slits with dull kitchen scissors... I know... I'm an idiot. It looked absolutely awful and I was so afraid that over time the slits would continue to run and tear and completely ruin my curtains more than I already had done. Since I am useless with a needle and thread, I searched for a store near me that could perhaps help me out of my pickle. So with my head bowed in shame, I showed the wonderful ladies at this store what I had done and gave them a basic idea of what I was looking for. Not only did they happily accept the challenge, but they did not make me feel ashamed for what I had done and only offered a suggestion of how best to do a project like this when I need new curtains down the road. They were so sweet and understanding! They literally treated me like family. So I picked up my finished curtains today and they look AAAAAAMAZING!! They did a much better job than I ever expected! Not only were they able to make the slits uniform across all the panels with beautifully sealed "button hole" style stitching around the slits, but they also added a beautiful backing to give extra support so there is no chance of the slits tearing in high winds. Plus they are no longer an eye-sore and they look beautiful! I can't possibly be any happier than I am! I will definitely come back to Express Alteration and Tailoring for all my future sewing needs! They are incredible people and so very friendly. I am a VERY, VERY happy customer!!! read more
