Open from Wednesday to Monday at 07h00, the location on Fernand Cocq Square in the heart of Ixelles providing ample foot traffic, Larent grew up in his uncle's Bakery before studying in Paris to perfect everything from Sourdough to Choux and Viennoiserie. Diverse in its offerings, a curated collection of Jams and Spreads mingling with shattering Feuilletines backed by Dark Chocolate, traditional Pancakes are lightly sweet without addition while Liege Waffles see a delicate chew interspersed with Pearl Sugar pockets. Unable to resist a Doughnut, unfilled with just Sugar overlying pillowy Brioche, Renard's Almond Croissant was a touch soggy despite arriving by 08h00, while the Cinnamon Roll was buttery and aromatic without being overly sweet.

They also serve coffee (such as espresso, cappuccino, latte) so you can get a grab and go for anyone on the go. There is no seating area here, but service is super prompt so most people know what they'd like to order once they have someone attend to them. Some standout items I love: baguette savoyard de lardon, oignon, et fromage (savory baguette with bacon, onion, and cheese), morning bun, gaufre (waffle), pain au chocolat et amandes (chocolate and almond croissant), among others! Really, it's tough to go wrong with any of the offerings here and everyone we've brought to try this spot has returned at least once, considering they're only here for 2-3 days! There are days when the line is out the door, but it moves quickly and it's so worth it!

I always root for the eateries with an eye-catching interior, soul and good, preferably healthy…read morefood behind it. But most importantly I root for a concept, a mission that makes it stand out. Now G. Spud has it all and it's impossible not to notice. To sum it up: Géraldine et Gaëtan (that what G. stands for) are living a dream of reinventing the potato (engl. for potato) or in their words: "make it's image more sexy" (pardon my poor translation into French) and provide the busy Brussels lunch crowd (location! location! location!). am told the place is very popular during the lunch time, you have to wait to get your fair share with a healthy and gluten free (sic!) options combined either with fish, meat or other vegetables. Neither of them exceeding €10 in addition to very generously sized portions. I tried the Tuna Spud and could barely finished it, although I was quite hungry. Now baked potato as I know it from Germany, is a huge bulb cut in the middle and topped with A LOT OF yogurt sauce and, if you are lucky, some salad and mushrooms. At G.Spud you not only get a nice compilation of fresh produce regional produce and funky dressings! It's also planed (so we were told) to introduce a different sort of potato every month, like local bars do with their choice of beers. To challenge our taste and expand our knowledge. Chapeau! While queuing up, pay attention at the way the spud is prepared and cut, even that is a part of the ultimate G.Spud experience. I really enjoyed every detail of the interior, especially how much attention was dedicated to the lighting and creating this breathy, sunlit, summery atmosphere. The team behind G.Spud (and behind the counter) is incredibly warm-hearted and welcoming, far-far above the Brussels standards. Now, although the ugly siblings Fries and Chips have totally ruined the potato family's reputation, the sexy Spud has all the chances of becoming the new sexy kid on the block. I wish the place would be opened after 5pm as I work pretty far away from Rue Jourdan. Well, it leaves me with Saturdays then. P.S. You can pick your Spud as a take-away, however the team is currently working on its packaging to find an ultimate transporting solution for their lovely spuds! Can't wait to be able order.

Tender meat bursting with flavor with some mashed potatoes to soak up the sauce. I enjoyed the lamb as well, however a bit too much rosemary for me. Get the pear dessert. While the register states No Cards one of the servers told the table next to mine not worry when they didn't have enough euros. Only a drink menu was provided and the dishes being served that day were handwritten on moveable boards or posted on the wall. I had on my list a couple to try but finally went with the Belgian carbonades à la biere which was beef stew with mashed potatoes in a dark gravy made with beer. The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.
