I go here regularly…read more They have lots of different flavours of shisha! They have irn bru, gummy bear, paan, double apple, blueberry and loadsa others. The shisha always lasts at least an hour. They come around and change the coals. They serve mint tea, other teas and coffees (latte/cappuccino). They have brilliant milkshakes my favourite is ferrero rocher milk shake! They also serve ice cream. They serve mocktails - mojito, pina colada, daiquiris etc. Great atmosphere - they have a piano, play chart music, the place has been newly decorated with all cool lighting and there is a waterfall. The food is great aswell, I ususally get the chicken wrap.

It was our first stop so, what's best that getting a good cuppa in before our walk?! I'd been here before many years ago with Angela B but had the memory of we didn't like it. The place is very very hidden in the West End, you've got to know or plan how to get to it as it's down one of the many Glasgow's West End's hidden lanes. When I arrived it was puzzling me why didn't we like it, then my man reminded me they do the shisha pipe and they used to be able to smoke it indoors before the smoking ban. Ahhhhh!!!!! Now I remember. They fortunately now take the shisha outside in their wee tea garden. As it is a very small venue, it makes me think of a student's living room, it's that small. I think Angela and I being non smokers it was too smoky for us while trying to enjoy our tea and I hadn't really enjoyed my choice the last time either. This time though was much better. Yay!!!! With guidance from Sara I choose the Turkish Apple tea which was absolutely delicious. I would definitely have again. Slurp! I still find it too cosy, I know that sounds weird but maybe because it's very cluttered with stuff, lots of trinkets and just stuff. There's also lots of soft furnishings so not short of cushions and blankets but for some reason I'm not the biggest fan. Maybe it's just me and I just find it too claustrophobic, especially if it gets very busy. I still say it's somewhere worth popping into if your out visiting the West End for the experience.

Due to continuous harassment from a big nasty…read moredeveloper, poor TO has been through some tough times this past wee while, but it's come through it well and I seriously hope it's here to stay! I'll skip the boring legal details but thanks to a crowdfunder (which I gladly participated in) Tchai-Ovna can continue to trade on Otago Lane - albeit without its lovely veranda which I will definitely miss on the few sunny days we get in Glasgow! It really is a very special place, I discovered it while at Uni through some friends of mine and while I don't get to come here as much any more, when I do I always absolutely love it. Tchai-Ovna is, as the name would suggest, a tea house and this is definitely one of the main reasons I come here. They have so many interesting and unusual types of tea to choose from - my favourites are the Turkish Apple and their own Faerie's Blood (freshly squeezed from the faeries in their garden) which is extremely refreshing and tasty, it makes an excellent hangover cure as well. I've always really enjoyed any food I've had here too, everything's very reasonably priced and you feel like you're getting something wholesome and healthy into the bargain. (Unless of course, you order the biscuits and nearly scoff them all yourself, but who would do such a thing? Definitely not me anyway, dunno what you're talking about...!) But the thing that really makes Tchai-Ovna special is the feel of the place. It's so cosy and welcoming with a super-relaxed atmosphere, many a time I've passed several hours here - drinking tea, chatting with my pals, seeing some live musicians or playing board games, and it is genuinely one of my favourite places to come in Glasgow. The cups and teapots they have are always pretty cool as well, I've heard rumours of them even having a cat teapot, but sadly I haven't had the pleasure of witnessing/being given it as yet! I was heartbroken to think I might not get to go here any more, which really showed me just how much I love it...in fact, I think a Tchai-Ovna trip is needed very soon!

The coffees are sublime. I brew my own Dear Green Coffee at home, but this place gets it just right (puts my wannabe barista skills to shame). I went for the poached eggs, avocado and salmon on sourdough toast. It was perfect. The portion size was just the right amount. Fresh and flavoursome - could not fault it one bit. There's a certain charm about this place to and not the usual hipster-esque type that Glasgow cafes seem to have adopted of late. It's unobtrusive and elegant. It's not overcrowded either, which I really liked. The staff are equally as unobtrusive and super friendly - a real credit to this place. All in all, a wonderful experience and one that I hope to repeat in the near future. Thanks guys!

So many cafes are closed on a Monday but not here - thankfully! It's easy to find on Mosspark Blvd and has parking out the front as well as a carpark to the side. I expected it was going to be a casual kind of place, but it's actually more like a cafe with a restaurant in the next room. It's a really nice space and they've obviously put love and thought into the decor - some nice cookbooks around the place and prints on the walls. I looked over the menu - there's your standard cafe offerings like sandwiches, baked potato, salads and a few larger dishes. I ended up going for a chicken mayo baked potato as it'd been ages since I'd had one. It arrived quickly and was massive - there's no scrimping on the portion sized here! It came with a side salad as well as some crisps on the plate (which always makes me laugh). The potato was perfection - a lovely crispy skin, perfectly cooked inside and well-tasty chicken mayo. I'd stupidly sat facing the cake cabinet, so had to get a pavlova for my personal trainer to take away. They boxed it up and made sure it didn't get squashed by taping the lid loosely down which was appreciated. The ladies who work here are so nice - very professional and kind at the same time. The service in the seating area was more like restaurant service than cafe, they came back to check up on me and made sure my drink was topped up. I really liked that. My bill was something like £9 for a drink, the baked potato and cake and I was pretty happy with that. I'd go out of my way to come back here as I thought it was really nice compared to your average cafe.

You'll share your table with the climbing centre locker room, I kid you not. But don't let that put you off, coz this is a great place to have a bite and a cuppa. It's cheap, tasty and unbelievably friendly. From the outset the staff seemed to have love and pride in their jobs. They were happy, that rubbed off on us and we knew we'd have a good afternoon. You don't have to climb to dine, but you can watch on in awe and it's a pretty busy place with peeps of all ages shooting up those knobbly walls. We popped in for haggis nachos, beef enchiladas and soup. The green lentil soup was off (as in gone sour), but that was sorted pretty efficiently by the chef. But the chilli beef enchiladas and nachos were pretty decent for £6 each. It's a funny environment to sit eating a spot of lunch, but somehow it worked for all three of us. Friendly, buzzing and inspiring. A happy place. :-)

On entry there is the gorgeous converted church which has been converted for the use of the climbing fraternity but has kept some of the original features such as the rafters and beams and the stain glass window which dominates the cafe. The menu is a mixture of healthy things such as ginger and soy noodles and a variety of low fat protein options as well as interestingly flavoured paninis and snacks such as nachos. We went for a thai chicken panini and nachos with vegetarian haggis. Its one of the best panini's ive tasted and exactly the flavour that comes to mind when i think of thai, creamy, coconut flavour with a hint of spice. For a cafe with such a wee amount of space the things they make are phenomenal. The better half also says that the nachos and vegetarian haggis were gorgeous too. A very inventive and healthy cafe with an interesting view well worth another visit!!
