Luckily though, I happened on a little gem found at the far end of an inner street in Los Baños. Though it's at about a 10 minute jeepney ride away from the campus along with a 5 minute walk back to the dormitory itself, 5th of September is definitely at the top of my list whenever I find myself back in Elbi. With an endearing staff, decent rooms with its private comfort rooms and showers, you'll never be homesick when staying here. Looking to stay here for a semester or so? Be sure to stick around up until the dormitory's anniversary (need I specify which day that is?) and you'll find yourself engrossed in a crazy event filled with competitions among its tenants and an occasional celebrity to grace the party with a mini concert - the likes of Christian Bautista, Erik Santos and even Freestyle! - if you're really lucky!

There are many other resorts in the area, some of which we have been to in the past which have proved to be a huge disappointment. This trip I decided to go a few days ahead and take a look before booking, I've booked sight unseen in the past and that, did not work well at all. There are probably a couple resorts in the area better than Zoetry, however at a much higher rate, Zoetry was just the right size considering our party was around 20 or so people. We managed to talk to the caretaker who was very nice, who connected us with the owner so we could make a deal. Overall I would say we were very happy with the price and accommodations for our overnight stay. If you're looking for the best value for your buck and comfortable accommodations this is the place!

Then, finding out that it was owned by Kuh Ledesma from the several advertising placements on billboards, broadsheets, and magazines. However, it was only a few years after that I was able to see it for myself. We did a wedding at Hacienda Isabella and I must say that I was glad to finally see it. It's a sprawling property reminiscent of Old Asia, with several casitas, a pool, a main house, and a lawn. The vast lawn was where we had the wedding reception and it easily fit 300 guests. I think it could probably fit more. For those who just want a weekend getaway, they have rooms for a reasonable fee. What I liked most was the main house where a long wooden table with equally long wooden benches are, serving as the main dining table in the house where a few rooms are located.

It is so relaxing because you get to enjoy the house and the surroundings that are so pretty and tastefully decorated, all while you are away from pollution and traffic noise. And yet it's not even very far from the city! You can rent the entire place either for a full day, a full night, or a full day AND night, going onto the next morning. There are several rooms-- a couple with queen beds and one that's dormitory-style, all with their own nice, spacious bathrooms. There's also a rooftop with its own lounge area where you can just sit around and stare at the stars while talking and hanging out with friends. There is a kitchen and living room area downstairs, all for your full use as well. You can bring any food you want, cook anything you want (just bring your own equipment!), and really just have the place to yourself the whole time.

First of all, the bunkhouse was so very spacious and airy due to the very high ceilings; A/C=Aircon was turned on for a little bit then, the fans were used distributing the cooler air throughout the bunkhouse. Hot showers were awesome because it was a hot water on demand tankless unit (I never seen this in United States being used in homes before residing at ISLAS GUESTHOUSE-I want these units in my bathrooms, Mrs. Shin!!) Second, you may use the washing machine to wash your clothes for FREE then, hang them on the clothes line to air dry . . . Mrs. Jovita Shin is so very cool! Third, cooking food is Mrs. Shin's favorite time of the day. Also, you could eat the fruit right from the fruit trees which was an added bonus. Fourth, Mrs. Shin took me shopping and sightseeing around Manila and Chinatown; that was a lot of fun. FYI: I walked everywhere including, walking to the mall down the street from Islas Guesthouse (losing weight was very key); hopped into a Jeepney, walked the rest of the way to SM Asia Mall and the U.S. Embassy. The herb roasted chicken is definitely my biggest recommendation here, as it's so delicious and smells amazing. Their binagoongan rice is also excellent, and goes well with your meals. Our party was mixed with both a la carte and their prix fixe classic menu that already had set courses, which ended up confusing our table a little bit (how to tell your lola they can't eat my bread...) so I recommend sticking to one type for all if possible. The servers kept it under control though and were friendly, had good rapport with our family, and kept everything refilled. We came on a weekday lunch and it was empty, and felt like we had the entire venue for a private lunch - highly recommend if you're able to come during the week!
