    Cozy dining area

I've lived in Tagaytay from 2011-2013 and haven't really visited Sonya's Garden. So today, hubby and I decided to check out for ourselves what all the hype is about. First off, don't judge the way it looks. It may look provincial and understated but I was bowled over by the salad (see photo), i mean it is among the best salads I have tasted. The squid in olive oil was also superb. Another must try is the fried lumpia which is far better than those served in Manila. We also had sinigang na salmon, among other things, which was good but with nothing remarkable to rave about. For refreshments, try the pineapple cucumber which i think is good for detox. To cap it all off, better try the taragon tea which would wash away the taste of fish from your palate. You also eat with the illusion of waterfalls on the screen walls which amps up the relaxing ambiance. Definitely a must try.

The first time I came here was in 2006! Boy has this place developed over time, and for the better! I loved my first experience here when we ate lunch here. All of the ingredients were fresh and organic. My Filipino family didn't know what to do without rice. This time we skipped out on the restaurant and just did everything else. I took my family here for spa treatments. I treated each of my family to the lilac package: body scrub, facial, head treatment and full body massage. It was super relaxing and amazing! I enjoyed myself and my mom said "everything was wonderful". All of my family members were extremely grateful for this experience. My masseuse was wonderful! Probably one of the best massages I've had in a long time! I paid over 17,000 pesos for 6 people's treatments that were over 2 hours. Afterwards, we walked through the beautiful gardens, bought organic/natural foods from the country store. I bought some organic and natural food and snacks to bring back to the US as gifts. I am excited to try the coco honey spread, sweet corn chips, and the random teas they sold. I wish they sold the dalandan tea they serve at the spa! One of the tastiest teas I've ever had! They should really start selling the products they use at their spa. That Argan oil treatment on the hair and the rose moisturizer they use during the massage were awesome! I would have picked some up if they were for sale. Before we left, we also picked up some fresh bread from the bakery. The Spanish bread and the pan de coco are delicious! Each one of us had 1 of each! I just love this entire place! I'm all about the natural and organic living. I love what this place represents and everything they offer here. It's beautiful, relaxing, and it's good for the body and soul (except the bread - that's full of flour and sugar). Nevertheless everything was good! This is always a good place and a good idea. It's a perfect place to go when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Maybe one of the best organic restaurant you can find in the area... Love their Tomato in olive oil, calamansi juice, freshly baked bread and their shiitake mushroom.. For P680 a person, it is worth the the trip.. Oh and it's a buffet :) so eat good food all you want..

    Always a pleasure

I love this so much and distance makes this place even more special. The original Sonya's garden gives you a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation. Although I've been here multiple times over the past couple of years, there's always that pristine and fresh vibe that I get as early as parking my car in the spacious area in front of the multi-sectioned restaurant and store. As you soon as I see those wooden tables and chairs and breath in the scent of the garden, it always makes me forget that I come there to eat. The food is not really super spectacular. Probably a 4/5 but definitely on the pricey side. They have prix-fixe menu which is, I must say, a good enough deal. Buffet service, unlimited drinks (fresh juice and tea) and commentary bread. Sonya's tops my must-visit-before-you-die Filipino restaurants list.

We were really excited to go there (although the drive is a little far from Makati) after reading quite a few reviews. We were looking forward to doing some outdoor activities on a beautiful summer day. The Park is smaller than expected but I must say the flora is beautiful. But what a disappointment for the activities. I agree it was a Sunday, but boy the place was crowded and noisy! It was packed with people gathering over food, loud music and screams at the picnic area. And there was only one food stall in the whole park. We were looking forward to rent a bike so we could ride around but you are actually not allowed and the track is basically a circle around a tree. How many rounds can one do for an hour around a tree! The zipline, boating in a lagoon, wall climbing were nowhere to be found (I assume they closed those activities). And the pool was so crowded it would be impossible to swim in it. As for fishing... Well it's in a small pond full of garbage and I doubt anything can be caught. It's definitely not a park where one can enjoy walking around and relax. There is a small trail in the forest but it's really small and takes not more than 10 minutes to walk around. We were really disappointed because we expected a park with nice activities and it really wasn't so. And definitely not a place to have a relaxing and peaceful day.

What elements are essential to make a paradise?…read more Different people would have different lists, but surely a constant feature would be flowers and trees, available food or meals, and fun activities. La Mesa Ecopark has all those three things together. First, flowers and trees. The Ecopark is a forest garden, meaning it's not a garden planted and arranged by a hired gardener but a garden growing out of a natural forest. The land area is quite vast, accommodating various species of plants and flowers such as Ipil-Ipil, Narra, Waling-Waling, Dancing Lady, Dendrobium, Birds of Paradise, and many other indigenous flowers. Second, you wouldn't go hungry walking around the vast space that is La Mesa Ecopark. No, you don't have to eat the flowers. There are many concessionaires stationed in strategic spots, offering to the hungry visitor foods that are close to the Filipino's heart such as inihaw, halo-halo and ice cream. Lastly, since every person is a child at heart, there must be fun activities. The Ecopark features zip lining, target shooting, paintball, bungee jumping, and trampoline. These activities would surely leave you breathless or shrieking from mixed excitement and fear. So come to Ecopark if you wish to recapture the wonderland of youth!

The interiors must have been designed with the restaurant name in mind, with light apple green accents on white walls. It reminds me of a bright and airy country home - the ones with the white picket fences, except this one has no picket fence. And there are nice quotes about food and eating on the walls, too, with my favorite being the Irish proverb: "Laughter is brightest where food is best." There are also paintings of different herbs on the white walls, and even hanging plants (I wasn't able to check if they were real, though). And the food! (Insert happy sigh here) If there is one restaurant which equally meets the healthy and delicious criteria without compromising either of the two, this is it. With each bite, I was able to savor the wholeness, the healthiness, and the rich flavors of the food. They had a Valentine special when we ate there last February, and for around P400 each, we had a complete meal with banana shake with chia seeds, a fresh salad with calamari and with a delicious fruity vinaigrette dressing, a fresh, rich tomato soup (which is really good that I suspect it was made from scratch), grilled salmon fillet with a creamy though not so heavy sauce with potatoes and vegetables, and chocolate cupcakes. All the food in our Valentine meal is in the menu, though they bundled it to a Valentine meal good for two last February. I have yet to try eating there a la carte, but I hope to try the veggie burger next.

I've tried a few vegetarian places in Binondo, but this relatively newish addition to Chinatown takes the whole cake! Taiwanese-owned Green Planet Vegetarian serves a variety of tasty vegetarian and vegan food at super 'sulit' prices. Much like a super clean, glorified 'turo-turo', you can get a rice meal with 3 viands for only Php 100, and with complimentary hot tea, too! Try their veggie sisig (creamy and dairy-free!) and their crowd-pleaser, fried miteng (gluten), which has a beautiful, chewy texture and savory flavor--amazing when dipped in vinegar. Another favorite of mine is their radish cake, a slice for only Php 15! Being sold here as well are vegetarian and vegan food items such as Magic Meat (dehydrated TVP made locally), canned barbecue sauce, and this Taiwanese granulated mushroom seasoning (reminiscent of the local Magic Sarap seasoning--look for the package with that very strange smiling mushroom). I've also heard from their staff that they're planning to open a Makati branch!

Whenever I am out on the field for work, I usually end up heading for the nearest SM food court to eat, and I'm glad that a lot of them have a branch of Bodhi Vegetarian Healthfood. The taste of their various vegemeat dishes comes close enough to the real thing. One of my favorites is their version of sweet and sour pork, as well as their pork barbecue on a stick. Biting into either dish tells you that it can't possibly be real pork. This is where the tofu-based dishes is a dead giveaway that it's not the real thing. But then, you would know because this is a vegan place, remember? Bodhi has set meals for less than P100 and they even come with a teeny weenie cup of iced tea or soda as well as a complimentary mini cup of soup. And "worth it" is what TVK's food is all about. This place really knows how to do COMFORT FOOD so, so well. Each meal is plated beautifully and carefully, and (pardon the *vegan* cheese) with so much love. What I love about TVK is how vegan-friendly it is. The menu has "V" markers for vegan dishes, and makes it convenient for us vegans. I recommend the Tocino and Tofu Scramble if you're feeling breakfast-y. The Grilled Salmon with Coriander Pesto is a house favorite. You'll love the "fish" they used, which has a seaweed skin. The Grilled Steak Sandwich is great for meat-loving folks, and very hearty. For appetizers, their fried tofu skins are delicious (though, if you're oil-conscious, order something else). Every month they feature a different cuisine along with their regular menu, so clearly there's always a good reason to come here at least once a month! This place really does vegetables the justice they deserve, and this remains among the top veggie restaurants in my list.
