I paid extra for the "professional package" and added their LinkedIn resume service at the end of May, aiming to complete a refresh of my 16+ year resume. About a week later, I was put in touch with one of their "senior-level writers" who called me for a brief interview. Although I had shared both a long-form and short form version of my current resume in addition to my LinkedIn profile, it was clear that my resume writer had not reviewed anything at all before our conversation. While she was very personable, she struggled to understand basic technical terms and concepts and could not offer any appreciable advice on what she expected to improve, but I decided to try and trust the process. About 15 days after paying for services, I received my first draft which was simply a typographical reformat of my existing resume riddled with broken English, misspelled words, and poor grammar. The writer had simply cut and pasted the bullets I'd written together, while attempting to cut out random words to make sentences shorter. The resulting product was nonsensical, shoddy, and embarrassing in every sense of the word. I took a few days to reflect on the best path forward, then contacted the company to explain that it was clear they were not headed in the right direction. I explained that I thought it would be fair to offer partial payment for time already expended, but did not wish to continue with my writer. I was immediately put in contact with the company president Jeremy who spent the next month exchanging emails with me about all the things he was doing to fix the situation, going as far as to personally rewrite my resume himself. Over the 12 emails we exchanged during that month, I continuously asked to see the file he was creating, but he continued to brush me off and produced excuse after excuse. Finally, after receiving no files, no drafts, not even a snipped of text from Jeremy, he told me to keep in touch on my results and stopped responding entirely. Literally. Never. Received. A Resume. I have now contacted the company dozens of times requesting status updates, asking about my LinkedIn review, and literally begging for anyone to explain or engage about actually delivering on any of the things I paid for. I have lost 50 days of my time trying to get the service I paid for, and now I am being completely ghosted, and have resorted to writing my resume myself. I paid for the professional package. I had a 30-minute consultative call to discuss my existing resume and received a (very) rough first draft 3 days later. The first draft wasn't what I expected and I could tell that Executive Drafts and I were not aligned in terms of my expectations and what they could reasonably deliver. Yes, it's an iterative process, but the language, style, and substance of the resume was so far off from what I expected that I didn't necessarily want to proceed any further. I reached out to inquire about *potential* refund options. I was not expecting a full refund nor did I feel entitled to one, but I was curious what kind of refund options were available to me since services were only partially rendered. I reached out and no response. I followed up again the next day- no response. I had to send 3 follow-up emails over the course of 3 days and only then did I receive an acknowledgement of my initial inquiry. Definitely professionals at work here. The owner responded with a VERY lengthy e-mail and rather than acknowledge that Executive Drafts may not be a good fit for everyone's needs, he instead challenged my judgement of what a resume should and shouldn't be. He continued to say that most of the work was done and complete.. but then mid-way through the e-mail said that the first draft was only 50% complete and there was still work to be done to arrive at a fine-tuned final product. After struggling to sort through all of the strong and diametrically opposed advice out there about how to write a resume, the current trends and expectations of hiring staff, the inclusion and formatting of a cover letter- I finally decided I needed to hire a professional service to guide me. Unfortunately there are also tons of those floating around out there to pick from. After more research and comparing packages/ pricing, I reached out via the chat function and was connected pretty quickly to the owner of the company, Jeremy. He answered my questions in depth and didn't push me to make a decision or a purchase. When I decided to go with Executive Drafts soon thereafter, I had a great experience with their staff from start to finish. I spoke again with Jeremy early on via email; I spoke with another staff member via the chat function; and of course I spoke at length with my resume writer. Everyone was polite, professional, and patient. The process took longer than I hoped but I definitely was at least partly responsible for that timeline and I am grateful to not have been rushed. I understand time is money and the more time staff spend on one client (me), the longer it takes for them to be available for their next assignment. I never felt like a clock was ticking. In the end I have a resume that includes all my relevant skills and accomplishments, which are unusually broad but the document still manages to tie them together. I have confidence in the formatting and the choices that led to the final piece because my team took the time to explain (sometimes more than once) all of that to me. I have a widely applicable cover letter and the understanding of how to adjust it for each job I apply to, and how to not mess it up. I got the help I needed to some extent in the end from Hazel, and feel that this resume services company is not worth a try. Thanks to Hazel not only the grammar and spelling was corrected, but also some of the wording was changed. However, the page format was wrong and there were a lot of unnecessary words under the experience sections. I am still trying to correct those mistakes. I am a Food Scientist with gaps in my resume due to moving between countries, and also I have different positions held for shorter periods due to the same reason. I needed someone to help me with grammar, and marketing myself despite the challenges due to the above-mentioned reasons. Not only there were spelling and grammar mistakes (which is a big no in a resume - even one mistake), but some of my experiences were also unnecessarily deleted or experience descriptions were written in the wrong position. It was a total mess. I started to look at my resume as if it was somebody else's and was very frustrated. I'm not sure what their target and operating procedures are, but it does not look like they are sincerely interested in helping people. Just another commercial resume writing service that is solely interested in your money. I paid for their services on October 4, 2018, for a resume and cover letter, and my job is finished today on Nov 1, 2018. Even though I had told the first writer/editor (whose name I will not reveal here) in the beginning that she could take her time and bring out a successful job, she only took her time and sent me a so-called final draft that was far from being final. If you know the basics of writing a resume and cover letter, and you are a picky person about grammar (which you should be to get a proper job) this company is not for you. Very disappointed in the results. It definitely depends on who you work with. I even tried to get someone else to work with me after spending countless hours modifying the drafts of my resume that came back and questioning the reasoning behind the choices made. Instead, I only received a long dissertation defending the position of my resume writer, Lindsey. My friend who referred me had very good things to say and ended up with a stellar position. I felt as if I was rushed through the process to check all the boxes and sent on my way. Seven months later, I still do not have a job despite extensive qualifications. And now I have been told by a career counselor about several fatal errors and the wrong choice in format on my "professionally done" and very expensive resume.
