I travel frequently both for business and pleasure, and the best way to learn about a culture and community is through its local food and drink. I also typically travel solo and activities like this are a great way to meet new friends.
The first thing that piqued my interest was the location- an underground wine club. It was a really cool space and one we wouldn't have access to otherwise.
I was also drawn to the experience of the owner. He's well versed in his craft and always excited to learn more. That was clear from the description and from our interactions. Stelios provided an overview of wines in Austria and the different regions. What really set this apart from other tastings I've done is the tasting notes portion. He walked through what sommeliers look for but did so in a way that was accessible to experienced industry folks and the causal wine drinker alike.
We enjoyed six great wines (three white, three red), and a delicious cheese and charcuterie plate.
I encourage others visiting Vienna to sign up for this. You never know what great wines you'll discover and what new friends you may make. read more
