No happy hour anymore- bad move. Also- if you are not going to offer happy hour, then perhaps remove it from your website...

[SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM]…read more Went in for my first Brazilian on a whim when I realized my hair was long enough and I just didn't want to deal with shaving and razor burn anymore. The first-time customer discounts aren't clearly explained on the website - it says you can get a free brow, lip, or bikini LINE (not a Brazilian) for free, so I decided to get my brows done in addition. I got there and the lady told me that I'd be getting my Brazilian for half off (?) - if I had known that, I wouldn't have made the appointment for my brows, but they needed it so I stuck with it. The place is super clean, super classy, and super professional. I was really impressed with the environment and the customer service. I told Stephanie it was my first Brazilian wax and she was sooo so patient. She clarified all of the things I'd told her I'd researched online, was super great about explaining what she'd be doing, taking breaks when I said it hurt a bit, and keeping great conversation. She did my brows, too - I have thick brows and they're my favorite feature considering I don't like to wear makeup. The first thing she did was hand me a mirror and point out everything about their current shape that was complimenting my face, and what she was going to do to clean them up. I got to keep the mirror while she applied the wax, so I could see exactly what was being removed, as well as the after-wax tweezing touch-up. I did end up getting the hair-minimizing body wash and lotion, as well as the 12-month (which is actually 13 months for new customers) Brazilian wax package, because I really REALLY didn't want to shave. I felt very comfortable with my decisions and my experience, until I got home and finally inspected my Brazilian wax closely... THERE WAS A NOTICEABLE PATCH OF QUARTER INCH HAIRS RIGHT ON MY LABIA THAT WAS NOT WAXED. Not to mention several other long hairs that were clearly missed. I felt like I could get a smoother feeling by shaving, I was so disappointed. I called back to let them know, and they told me that they offer free touch-ups within five days, so I'll be going back and updating this afterwards. Stephanie has been waxing for three years, with two and a half of them at EWC, so I was kind of in shock (even for my first wax) that there were so many hairs. Did she not look?? UPDATE: I went to Emma for my touch up (today is Wednesday and my original wax was this past Sunday) and she was great. She could clearly see the patch that was missed from my last appointment and she easily took care of it with wax, while tweezing any other lone hairs. Her communication was great. Still not sure how all of the hair was missed in the first place, but ‍

Went to their website to book an up-do and was very excited about my appointment, I've never had a…read moredisappointing service here. Booking online is quick and easy and I was able to get a slot in prior to my event that evening. I was greeted and welcomed in with lots of energy and things quickly turned to confusion for me as I was not sure why: 1. I needed to bring my hair dry to an up-do appointment (I have curly hair) -- every up do I've ever had at any other salon they actually have washed my hair first and then did my hair * my stylist told me it was not possible to dry my hair straight and do an up do in the time of an updo appointment. This caused major confusion and made my experience not really enjoyable as I was wondering why the stylist was mad I came to the appointment with wet hair. Additionally, I went online to check "how long" is an up do schedule for and its scheduled and priced the same as a wash cut and style at 1 hour and 15 minutes. My hair never takes more than around 20 minutes to dry and honestly, even without a Brazilian, my hair only took 40 minutes, which means it would leave 35 minutes for up doing. ----- I'm not sure if the stylist was rushing due to being overbooked or wanting a break or being mad my hair was wet. We had good chats and it turned into a decent experience about 20 minutes in once my hair was dried. ----- It is my fault I didn't come with any pictures I guess of what I wanted and they had no styling books that I could see. I told the stylist I wanted a "low bun thing that looks like a fold over similar to a braid that is a bit loose and has a bit of height and volume to the top and sides." Ultimately, it turned out alright - I had felt rushed the entire appointment which was booked for 1 hr 15 minutes, the stylist finished exactly at the 45 minute mark and that's with me taking 4 minutes to settle in. So the hair was 41 minutes for an hour and fifteen minute appointment. When I ask meta AI to create what I told the stylist, the hair I wanted came up, however, it was not what I received in person. Ultimately, the up do worked, photos came out okay and I can't blame anyone but myself for the fly aways and style, because I didn't bring photos. I don't know if I'll do this service here again, because 45 minutes of a 75 minute service and being told it was not possible due to me coming in with wet hair and not getting a shampoo.... This wasn't ideal. The fact you want clients coming in with dry hair should be somehow communicated to the client in the future. Plus, the stylists have different blow dryers, so getting a Dyson is not guaranteed. The experience was a lesson learned.

But progressively got a little more shallow. I requested a full highlight and when getting bleached by Jayda she applied bleach directly to my scalp and I now have a bleach burn on my scalp. I informed her immediately after I felt it, to which we washed it out but even then after that my skin was practically red and bleeding. I thought after we washed it would be fine and here I am writing this review 3 days later because I'm super itchy and now have an extremely noticeable red spot in my scalp. Please please please do not make this mistake by being under informed. Know that you need to have a mask on your scalp before bleaching!

The Experience: As soon as I checked in, I was asked to choose an aromatherapy option for my bath. After changing, I waited in a calm relaxation room with tea and snacks until my name was called. The atmosphere was peaceful, setting the tone for the experience. The bath itself was deeply relaxing. One thing that surprised me was how deep the tub was--I wasn't expecting that. I remember wondering if the minerals would make the bath feel different, like maybe there would be some tingling, but it felt like a regular bath. The ambiance of the bathhouse was serene, with soothing music and dim lighting that really enhanced the relaxation. I've even shared my experience on YouTube, you can check out my full experience and get a feel for the vibes here: https://youtu.be/rZRi-EZA5zw It was interesting to learn that, back in the day, a bath here cost just $1.25, whereas now it's around $64. It's a bit expensive for a bath, so I'd say it's great for a one-time experience. However, I think the staff could do a better job of educating customers about the benefits of the mineral water--what it does and why it works--so we can actually understand the impact it has. It would be even better if they shared testimonials from long-term clients about how it's improved their lives. Pro Tips: 1. Enter the park through the Avenue of the Pines to avoid the $10 parking fee. 2. Check out the nearby creek--it's a gorgeous spot! Last time I visited, I set up a surprise picnic for our anniversary there. You can ask the staff at the front desk about it. For me, it's exciting to know the history behind Roosevelt Baths and to experience something that people in the past believed would heal their bodies and that once provided a natural luxury experience to everyday New Yorkers.

Our attendant was really nice and told us the fascinating history. The steam room was a little small. The changing room provided lockers, robes, towels and slippers. You have your own room for mineral bath with massage table and bathroom. The bath was relaxing. The massage therapist was fine but her bedside manner was rather robotic. It felt like she was phoning it in. So just a little disappointed in that area. Otherwise it was nice to visit. I'm undecided if I would go back next time in town. Update: I woke up to sore shoulders so a little sad that my shoulders went from fine to owwww... :(
