    Being new to the area, it was nice to find an office that had a great staff and an eye doctor that is friendly and has a sense of humor.

    Could not schedule until 3 months out to get eye exam appointment. I get to office to see Dr Reed,…read moreand Zoe at front desk said they had not verified my insurance, and that is my responsibility, not theirs. I did not want to pay $350 out of pocket with insurance; I said I would have verified it before I scheduled. They had me sit to side while I called insurance company. When I first called, they were checking people in and all I needed was the NPI number, but they couldn't stop to give it to me. So after they dealt with all the patients, Zoe gave me NPI number, went to back to check with clinical supervisor, Di, and came back and said that I would have to reschedule. If she would have given me 1.5 minutes to make the phone call, I could have submitted the NPI number and have had an answer ASAP. Instead, I had to wait for them to talk with 3 other groups of patients and then tell me I'd have to reschedule. I heard them telling another group of people that it would be at least two months before they could see the same doctor I needed to see. My husband and mother are both patients of this practice; I remember there being an issue with my husband coming here previously with them billing incorrectly; it was incompetence on their part. My family and I will no longer be coming to Shoreline. I could tell that Zoe was frustrated, but she tried to be nice. It's not her fault that standard procedure is not verifying insurance before the patient arrives, but it would have been helpful if I could have had that 1.5 minutes to call, enter npi #, and find the info they needed--that was automated. She did tell me that pre-verification by calling insurance company was a HIPPA violation, but I've never had that issue with any other office. I've always had doctor/ophthalmologist offices verify or call insurance if they were not able to verify electronically. Post appointment, I checked current HIPPA laws, and they have not changed; verification of insurance can be done via phone on a secure line. Shoreline lost 3 patients today.
