I hired Riverman Ace Handyman service Rivers out of Whitehall Michigan to install 4 exterior sliding doors from Anderson windows. Dave, their Handyman guy came out and gave us a quote to install these doors. We agreed upon the price and Dave came out and started the work. Dave had to come back multiple times related to screws missing, locks not working, air and water coming into the house. I documented, took photos and videos and continued to report these issues. I did not hear back from them for a while and finally I spoke with Gina the New Manager at Ace and requested that I send the photos, videos and the timeline of all the issues. They decided to send an independent contractor to do an inspection of the installation and the inspector sent a letter stating all that was wrong with the installation of these doors which I have a copy of. When I asked Ace what they were going to do about the faulty installation they suggested I contact my insurance company and when I explained that my insurance company would not cover this as it was a faulty installation on their installers part I suggested they contact their insurance company. It stated on their website that they are fully insured. The last time Dave came out he was sent with an Anderson window consultant and Dave apologized for messing up on the installation and explained to me that he has never done a big Window job like mine and didn't seal those Doors like he should have. Below is the independent contractors report keep in mind this is someone Ace sent out.
10/02: Inspected 4 GPDs for water infiltration. All four have significant installation issues that are causing the openings to leak. The leaking is occurring above every unit (when there is heavy rain) No quality issues found related to Andersen. HO states installer has been out several times in attempt to fix, but just adds caulk to the head jamb from the outside.
68124- Basement 12068: Out of square, has drip cap, but not taped under siding. Interior panel stop on upside down, screen astragal upside down and inside out so lock cannot be used. Can't see above due to excessive caulking. Can see all the way to the installation screws on side jambs (no foam or sealant), side jambs bowed out at the center so panels do not seat properly, and sill is not level across the floor.
64816- Basement 6068: No drip cap, head jamb bowed down in the center, no foam insulation, tape is loose and not sticking to the flange, sill is not level.
68125- Main floor 12068: No drip cap, no foam insulation, tape is loose all the way around on the flange, interior panel stop on upside down, side jambs bowed out so panels are not seated correctly, sill is not level, one screen upside down, screen astragal on upside down and inside out, lock thumb latch bent due to improper adjustment, head jamb bows down in center.
64815- Main floor 6068: No drip cap, no foam insulation, tape is loose all the way around the flange, interior panel stop on upside down, side jambs bowed out so panels are not seated correctly, sill is not level, screen was on upside down (fixed in previous return call from installer).
I highly recommend the doors be pulled out and reinstalled. Due to the nature and quantity of the installation issues found there is no other way to guarantee the doors will not leak and operate properly. read more
