Movers were great. Some other furniture that wasn't ours ended up getting mixed in to the shipping container and that made things a little confusing. there was also some stuff without lot numbers, but in the end I got all that I needed. read more

DO NOT USE! I normally don't leave reviews, but our experience with the moving company was so bad. We booked with Excel through Allied (Excel is the local subcontractor for Allied) for our interstate move from NC to LA. We have pretty solid stuff that we're really attached to, so we decided to splurge and go with a reputable company. If we had known what was going to happen, we would have gone with a cheaper company since we're now out of the $8000 moving fee AND have to replace all the stuff that was broken or went missing. Our furniture and belongings arrived broken and smashed. We had a bed frame where the wheel was ripped right out. One lampshade was smashed, as was a fan. 60% of the boxes were crushed. A chair's back broke off (and we can't even replace just that one, which already would've been $300, since it's a discontinued product; we'll have to spend a lot of money to replace the entire set of four). Our couch's wooden legs were detached, but weren't properly stored, so we were left with a couch with just one leg (because they only detached three legs). We also had to replace those at considerable cost, but luckily we could factually find the hardware for those. A rug that's just plain missing. Oh, and we got a few boxes of other people's stuff that we had to tell the delivery guys weren't ours. If you're missing a cactus painting, a painting of a skull, half a gym rack or some gym stuff, be sure to contact Excel because those went back with our delivery people. The furniture was also delivered outside the delivery window. There was not promised communication. The delivery guys just showed up one morning without warning. Save yourself the pain of moving with Excel. Or, if moving is this painful anyway, just save yourself the money. read more

DON'T DO IT!!!!! If there was a negative star option I would be using it here. These people are crooks. I hired them to move me from Greensboro to Louisiana, bought the insurance for lost and damaged goods...six boxes and furniture are missing and they are refusing to reimburse for any of it. I really don't want the money....I WANT MY BELONGINGS BACK. The move out crew was sloppy and disorganized, the move in crew was even worse. Matt Smith, the salesperson did a great job of painting a wonderful picture of their services and how wonderful my driver was....great job Matt! I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Once they have your money you will never hear from them. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Trying to move from Charleston SC to Orlado Fl , I called Allied , because I've already move with them from TN to SC ( this is not my first moving !! ) Allied put me in contact with Excel , that is a local company that work with them here. I receive a call from Excel , set an appointment , and on that day , after have waited on this person for more than half an hour without any call telling me why they were late , I called the person with whom I made the appointment , and the lady return my call saying that she didn't know what happened to the guy supposedly coming for the estimate. Bad omen ! We set another date for this same guy to come to my house , and again , nobody show on time and I have to call again to see what was wrong ... The guy called me finally , an hour later and said he was on his way. Two hours later he finally showed up , and asked if I ever worked with a comercial moving company ( yes , this is my 16 or 17 moving , I said ) , and then he asked if I had any question , to wich I said if this will be the manner in which they will work ( being late , not calling , etc ). This man got offended by my question and told me to look for another company. Which I already done , because I always call 3 or 4 companies to compare . My experience with the other companies ( Two man and a truuck , All my sons and Stevens Worldwide ) were really professional. Hope Allied review wich companies they choose to work with as associates. We contracted with Allied Van Lines to move our Household Goods from MT HOLLY, NC to CARMEL, IN. Excel Movers in Greensboro, NC managed the move. There were several problems with the move: * The initial estimate was grossly understated. The price for the services increased over $4,000 after the material was packed and put into storage. Our household goods were essentially "held hostage" until we could provide additional funds. * Property damage from the move. I've moved 17 times in my adult live - included military and corporate moves. This was the worst move, by far. The damage includes: o The leg of dining room chair broken o 60" flat panel TV destroyed - the screen was cracked because pictures were packed inside the TV box. o Two pictures cracked o Missing dolly o Grandfather clock parts bent and destroyed o Several glasses broken At delivery, many boxes were not placed as marked or as directed. We had to spend an entire day moving boxes and materials to the "right" room. The crew just dumped boxes in our garage to get out of there by 5 PM. To make matters worse, they only reimbursed us $216 for all this damage. I strongly recommend that you NOT USE Allied/Excel. If you do, spend the extra money for the insurance read more

Booked Excel to move me from Greensboro area to Tennessee. Price with Allied/Excel came back cheaper than others and seemed just as good, initially. When the movers came to pick up our items, it was great. No issues. When the items arrived I was told they couldn't fit it all on the truck. They explained that another customer's items took up too much space so they were going to have to send another truck at a later date with all my stuff. Meanwhile the movers hired to unpack the truck were terrible. Nice guys, but did not care about dents or dings, etc. We had 2 beds damaged, a night stand, an entertainment center, a filing cabinet, a coffee table, a broken mirror, a recliner, and two side tables. It was insane the amount of stuff damaged, not to mention the scuffs and scratches to our floors and walls. They also delivered a box that was not ours (full of personal items including their check book). After the second delivery, they showed up late and only had 2 guys who were on and off their phones the whole time. I complained and Excel gave me a whopping $300 back towards my move since I had to take off work and extra day for their terrible planning. I'm currently in the process of filing claims with their insurance department now. So hopefully they will repair/replace most of the items. Would not hire Allied again. read more

So, I've moved about 12 times--whole house moves. I do my own packing and in all that time had only 1 item damaged (like a coffee cup). I chose Excel to move me cross country last year. Everyone was pleasant to work with, gave me some free boxes, and showed up on time. When they were loading it was clear that the truck was jam packed. When they unloaded, my large dresser and my buffet were both broken. A chair was broken as well. As I unpacked and set up house, I discovered metal metro storage shelves that had been bent and several boxes had slashes in them. One of those was framed art and the glass was broken. The insurance adjuster promptly paid out for the dresser and buffet. The chair was fixed and then they dickered over the rest--because I had tried to straighten the shelves myself and because I had packed the art myself. Nevermind the slashes in the boxes, nevermind that something had clearly gone wrong in that truck. My only recourse is to pay for arbitration, which they know is silly for such a small claim. Staff at Excel consistently expressed sympathy but not one stepped up to make this right. Sad. read more

I really wanted to be able to rate them higher (initial rating, 2 stars), but I just can't. The estimate process was great - David was very professional and knowledgeable. However, I booked my move 2-1/2 months prior to the move date (moving 1,000 miles can be stressful and I wanted it to be as smooth as possible), so we would not have any problems when it came time to load and move my goods. The day before the load, my move coordinator called me to say they didn't have a driver available, and they would have to load on a smaller truck, take it back to their facility in Greensboro and wait until a driver was available. That didn't sit well with me, but the guys who loaded were very nice and seemed to do a good job. However, between that load and the time the stuff got delivered to me (10 days later - which made for a challenging living situation with no furniture, no way to cook and only 2 days worth of clothes), a box of sheets and towels went missing and a couple of items were broken/damaged. The unload went great, and I watched them move everything from the truck into my apartment, so I know the damage occurred when they moved my stuff from the smaller truck to the tractor trailer that ultimately moved everything. I've requested a credit for repair/replacement, and I will re-review after I hear back from them. So, after a lot of back and forth, we were able to come to an agreement on a settlement amount that was acceptable to me. I've changed my rating to 4 stars, because overall they did and I've revised my review to 4 stars. I'm still frustrated that I had to wait that long for my possessions to get to me, but they handled the issues fairly. read more
