I've known about Exceed when I first competed here back in 2023 and I just recently moved to OC in hopes of finding the perfect gym that not only does it motivate me to become a stronger lifter but to feel welcome in a small community. Thats Exceed. Their wide array of combo racks, never having to wait for an availability or even on a busy day, we're all encouraged to share a rack which is beautiful to see. Members are extremely easy to talk to, we're all here to support one another and I'm literally calling this my second home now. Finest gym I've been to. It's my first powerlifting gym and hoping it'll stay as my only gym membership. The main perks of a powerlifting gym are all here: 24 hour access, multiple combo racks available for your SBD needs, and likeminded clientele that just want to lift. This means it's almost always easy to get a lift in even during peak hours, which is diluted more than the usual commercial gyms because of the 24 hour access. The equipment for accessories aren't lacking either, with the owner Henry continuously procuring new machines or attachments since I've been here for a year now. Just about every month or so, something gets rearranged or added to the gym floor and it's great to see membership dues going back to the gym. The only caveat to the 24 hour access are when the gym hosts powerlifting competitions, which isn't frequent but something to plan around as I believe currently, members are unable to lift during these events unless they're competing since the floor space isn't large enough to accommodate everyone. Good trade off though considering the gym isn't closed for the entirety of the day unlike other gyms on holidays. Easy recommendation, love to see this gym's growth every month read more

Very happy for the last year that I spent training here. I like the variety in powerlifting equipment, the fact that it is so clean and organized and all the members respect the rules. I also appreciate that the owners take their time to explain how everything works to make sure that everyone is safe and honors that training space. I am also a personal trainer full time and in that sense I like how non intimidating the environment is in general for someone who's never been in a non-commercial gym setting! The smaller gym space is nice for someone who would just want to hide and blend in BUT this is a good comfortable space to feel welcomed and learn how to train! This gym is better than any other commercial gym I have been to so far in my opinion. Where they stick with making everyone feel like they belong and create a inclusive space. No matter how long you have been lifting for to no matter who you are everyone is treated the same. Being surrounded by an amazing community like the one built here where everyone supports each other when they workout, is something that makes me always want to go back. Been a member since March 2023 and this is honestly one of the best all around gyms I've had the privilege of training at. Owner cares deeply about the gyms and invests a lot of time into improving the gym's equipment, layout, cleanliness, etc. Members are respectful and supportive. 24/7 hour access is a bonus for those with weird work schedules, plenty of snacks and drinks you can purchase to fuel your training session, cute apparel you can buy, and plenty of good combo racks, platforms, and body building equipment for all the gainz. If I were to categorize this gym, this is definitely a powerlifting gym. This review is based on a total of 4 visits. Equipment You have combo racks, deadlift platforms, and lots of barbells to use. What I do like is that they color code their barbells to distinguish squat bars/power bars from deadlift bars and they even do so with specialty bars. For plates, there's calibrated plates for precise weight and bumper plates that are commonly used for those doing things like Olympic weight lifting. Now, if you're a clean and jerk kind of person, there's limited space. I do enjoy using Oly lifts as a way to work on my explosiveness, but honestly, I'd rather do it somewhere else. If this is a deal breaker for you, remember, I started writing the review stating that I categorize this as a powerlifting gym. Other than that, there's a belted squat machine, cable machines, bands, light kettlebells, light medicine balls, dumbbells and boxes (which I think no one uses). For cardio, I want to say there's one treadmill and two assault bikes. Outside, and don't quote me, I want to say there's a battle rope area and a sled. Recovery? There's foam rollers with a variety of firmness. Cleanliness If you have been to a commercial gym, you'll know how bad it is and even some powerlifting gyms are overwhelmed when they are busy. However, Exceed makes it a mission to make sure the equipment is maintained well. So, want to know why the owners don't want you to damage equipment? Do your own research on things like barbells and combo racks. They are EXPENSIVE. The owners don't expect you to gently drop the weight, but if a spotter is available, please use one. Restrooms are clean, it's like I'm almost afraid to pee there. So there's no protein dumps left uncleaned. The owners expect you to be clean since this is their baby. They have cleaning cloths available for you to wipe down your workout area and equipment. The barbells are new looking despite them being constantly used. Management Mike and Henry are nice. I believe they're both USPA certified coaches. If I wasn't experimenting on my own self programming, I can see them as being good coaches. They're also WAY more than okay with spotting you on a heavy lift. Like, I always see them spotting someone. They also host federation approved powerlifting meets. As long as you respect the gym, they respect you. Pros -Spotters always available -Different pricing can lower your costs and cater to your needs. -There's 24 hour access with a security code you put in -Henry's dog is adorable -Prices are average for a specialty gym. If you're in the OC, you might want to consider checking this place out if you don't want to pay for SoCal powerlifting. -Clean -Anti bacterial chalk. -Fresh towels Cons -Gym might feel really tight due to the amount of space. -Henry's dog ignores me, but it's okay. read more

Hardcore powerlifting and weightlifting gym with great quality equipments. Great place to train if you live in OC or drop in on your visit. Pros: Nice equipment, vibe and price! 1) Competitive powerlifters are seen everyday. 2) Though mainly it's a powerlifting gym, they do carry a lot of weightlifting bars from training to competition ones. 3) Owner Mike has a great personality that always be willing to help. The equipment is nice and clean all the time and member can access 24 hrs which is really convenient. 4) Plus, the membership fee is a lot cheaper than other gyms at the same level. Cons: Would have given a solid 5 star but the only two downsides are: 1) Gym is a bit short on space and might feel crowded at peak hours. 2) Make sure to communicate with them and follow gym rules as new rules might be indoctrinated at anytime you train and might interrupt your session by owner Henry. I have been lifting for a few years now and I have been to many powerlifting & bodybuilding gyms; but I have to say that Exceed is the best and my favorite gym ever. It is very clean and organized. The equipment is top notch and good as new. The staff is amazing, personable, and helpful, they make me feel welcome every time I come in. They are very motivating and friendly. The atmosphere and energy in this gym are some things I wish I can have at every gym I go to. Having a great staff in an environment like Exceed has helped and is continuing to help me achieve my fitness goals. If you can notice, most of the bad reviews came from people that don't even attend the gym. The rules are fair and just so I disagree with the negative reviews of this gym. Me and my friends have been treated with nothing but kindness here, and I'm sure the same goes out to everybody else that goes to this gym. Y'all I'll vouch for this gym until the day I die. I literally only suggest Exceed Performance for lifters looking for a gym in OC with a wide range of high quality equipment and the most supportive community. If you're looking to be personally trained (at an additional cost) they got you covered. Everyone is experienced, educated, and determined to get you to meet your fitness goals and expectations. Did I mention 24/7 access for all members? If you're a work horse like me, I'm sure that'll be to your benefit as well. Can we also mention that there's actually a good amount of parking space? Yeah, it's great; one less thing to worry about. I'd say the rules are fair and just. There's no gimmicks or changes to any of the rules as owners are very communicative and clear on community guidelines and expectations because that is what upkeeps the gym's awesome cleanliness, security, and quality. Both owners are extremely friendly, personable, helpful, and will cheer you on for your lifts even! I highly disagree with any of the negative reviewers regarding the owners because you'd have to be a regular nuisance to get on ANYONE's nerves. Everyone in this gym will literally answer or at least guide you appropriately if you have absolutely ANY questions or concerns. Was in town for the month on vacation and this was the first gym i've been to in the US. My friend frequents this gym, so I decided to tag along with him. The equipment is clean, and the staff and members are very warm and welcoming. I've never felt so welcome at a gym before! The village-esque hospitality of the people at the gym make for a very unique atmosphere where people I just met were cheering me on in my lifts - something I would never experience back in Singapore. Would highly recommend this gym! Also, I've seen some one-star reviews addressing an incident that occurred at a recent powerlifting meet at Exceed. Would give 5 stars for the members and equipment, however one of the owners runs the place like a dictator. From the moment you walk in he has a negative attitude, and will take it upon himself to accost you in front of other members very loudly if you do something he doesn't like. While members have 24/7 access, the owners will suspend your access code with no prior notice and a lack of regard for your time/money. Rules stated during onboarding are constantly changed so that you have no way of following them because of the confusion. And instead of communicating with you in an adult way, they will make changes with no communication or regard for members. 5/5 equipment 1/5 owner and how the gym is run. *edited to add that after confronting one of the owners of the matter, I chose to cancel my membership. And that as a previous member, I reserve the right to provide my honest opinion and experience based on my experience at this gym. I don't normally review places but I'll take the time for this place! I stumbled upon powerlifting quite late but love it and this place just makes me love it even more. I've been training here 3x a week for the past 4+ months and training at this place is one of the most positive things about my life. The staff, equipment, and other members are all amazing. They've got everything you need if you're looking for a zero drama, zero bs and safe gym to move steel around and get them gains. I blame the owners (Mike & Henry) for creating an atmosphere that's filled with high energy and courteous members. They're usually both at the gym for most of my sessions (Mike's also my coach), so I can tell you they're two of the hardest working small business owners I've met. You can always catch these guys hustling - working the front desk, coaching, working out themselves, cleaning and organizing, or just chilling and making sure the members are all good (acting as a spotter, responding to requests for advice on technique, or just contributing to the general feel good atmosphere by having a conversation with you about how you're doing). Really enjoy training at this gym! Every gym is built on its community, and Exceed Performance has a great community of lifters who have the same goals and aspiration when it comes to powerlifting. I've been going to Exceed for the past year now through a recommendation from a friend and it has exceeded (no pun intended) expectations. The environment that Henry and Mike have established is full of support and encouragement to do better. Even if you aren't into powerlifting (which I am not), everyone from the owners, to the staff, and to the members are always kind and understanding of your goals. For me, the reason I come to and will continue to come is the gym's cleanliness; members are trained to take care of the equipment as if it's their own by cleaning im and putting things away properly. Henry and Mike have always been welcoming when walk in; so the friendliness helps right before I start my workout. There are times that you would want to go in and out of the gym as well, so you can just focus on yourself while your doing your workout. Lastly, the best thing is that if you are ever unsure about your form, everyone at the gym will give you tips and tricks as long as you ask. Again, the culture that the owners' set at the gym trickles down to its members. If you're looking for a solid, clean, and judgement-free gym, this is the place to check out. It's really simple: just respect the equipment and the gym as if it's your own. The gym also hosts meets; but, I've never participated in one so I can't really comment on it. Hands down the best gym there is! I had a brief experience with lifting but quit awhile back, but this past March I got a guest pass for Exceed! Since I live further out in Corona, I just wanna be an official member of Exceed and get my pearly whites on the picture board. I've never met such friendly and as welcoming people like the owners, it was like I was already expected there when I dropped by with my boyfriend. Exceed Performance is the first gym I've ever had a full committed membership to. Beforehand I was gonna just gonna work out at 24 just because of convenience to home. For the past month I now drive 30 minutes away from home just to lift. Came here seeking to better myself and start working out having only doing so for a couple of month. The owner seemed welcoming but I quickly saw they were not very friendly to beginners. I was told a week in that in the future I should stick to commercial gyms like planet fitness fitness and was constantly being watched to make sure I wasn't damaging equipment instead of being helped. So much I can say but I'm not one for writing much lol but honestly if it was for exceed with all the amazing staff members who work there asses off to make sure everything is safe and clean so that we can get our work outs in. They made me more comfortable so comfortable that I am open about how much i used to weighed come pair to much I weighed now I was 250lbs come in and now I'm 185lbs and that's all thanks to my trainer Henry for never giving up on me and stuff members pushing me to get that last rep in making me feel like nothing is impossible.
