As a former member of this gym who had a poor experience with management, I am voicing my concerns and own honest personal experiences about my time at Exceed even though I originally did not want to resort to it.
While I was fully invested in this gym and highly valued the sense of community among the other gym members, as well as appreciated the gym equipment, it is the management that eventually created a hostile and uncomfortable atmosphere for me and it became insurmountable to the point I decided to finally cancel my membership.
Specifically, the co owner Henry, exhibited on multiple occasions a confrontational and disrespectful attitude towards me for no valid reason. To name a few specific incidents, I was once loudly scolded in front of other members by him for accidentally dropping a squat bar. And most recently, on the day of a recent lifting comp that I was a part of, I used the restroom and as I was using it, heard banging on the door and yelling by co-owner Henry: "Are you in there pooping!?" with other gym members present. You can imagine that I felt extremely uncomfortable, upset, and as though my privacy was violated. If this doesn't illustrate a lack of respect and professionalism, then I really don't know what does. Regardless of anything, I don't believe it is ever justified to treat or respond to one of your gym members that way. These incidents highlight some of his reactions which I believe were out of proportion to the situations and unjustified.
After these incidents occurred, I took it upon myself to seek support from other co-owner Mike in attempts to resolve these issues before leaving, however, I did not receive support from him as I was told he did not want to speak for anyone because he was "not involved". I believe if gym members are coming to you to discuss issues and voice their concerns that they are having while at YOUR gym, it is your responsibility to be involved as a co-owner and to help resolve these matters. As a result of this interaction, I did not feel that my feelings and needs were taken into consideration and this ultimately led to me seeking a gym elsewhere.
Even after this all, the business has made questionable threats of legal action towards myself and others and have gone as far as to slander me on their personal social media accounts with statements stating I was "kicked out" and "banned" from the gym, wanted "free training", and that I made "fake accounts" to post on Yelp (all of which I have evidence of them saying), among others. These statements are not true. For a business to engage in these sorts of behaviors to me is beyond unprofessional and shows a lack of respect and honesty. I encourage you to seek a gym other than Exceed if these are aspects that you value.
Hopefully management can learn to provide better support and respect to their gym members. read more
