Recently, advised cologuard by doctor. Saw a lot tv ad and also read online. I was very encouraged in the hope that I do not have to go for colonoscopy screening. However, my experience with cologuard is very disappointing. After getting the kit, I read all the instructions line by line and followed them. It is written that the sample must be immersed in the supplied liquid and I followed that. Also, gave sample for occult blood in a separate tube. But when doctor gave me a copy of the report, I am surprised to see that the sample could not be processed because it exceeded the weight and in parenthesis it is written (300 gm). Now this is a real surprise. In the instruction books, no where it is written that the sample weight must be 300 gm. Also, not written is the acceptable sample weight range. Further, did not get the occult blood result either. I felt deceived by the company. The company may have got their money from the insurance but I got nothing but frustration. The company could have been upfront about the weight limit. I do not know if the company expects the patients to weigh their stool samples. Alternately, the company could have marked the sample box. Overall, it is a bad experience and I will not go for cologuard anymore. I am preparing for colonoscopy. I wish I read this forum before going for this frustrating test. Also, surprisingly, google search for "cologuard review" does not bring this forum in the results (I looked up to 5 search pages). Not sure why!!!!!
Furthermore, the other day I was reading in the news about a patient getting huge bill for diagnostic colonoscopy after getting cologuard positive. This is because many insurance covers screening colonoscopy and NOT diagnostic colonoscopy. So if cologuard is positive by any chance, the subsequent colonoscopy (required) can be costly. Overall, had a lot of expectations (did not see this page) but did not get a good experience with cologuard. read more
