I work in a busy family practice clinic. Our providers frequently order Cologuard testing for our patients. Results or those tests are faxed to us from Exact Sciences. They are most definitely a real and legit company, to state otherwise is simply ridiculous read more

** BEWARE** It is very frustrating to deal with aggressive reminders and phone calls by Exact Science only to be left holding a bill of $790.00 for a Cologuard screening you were explicitly told would be fully covered. Reason given - "Denial Codes: 55-DENIED, PX DEEMED EXPERIMENTAL" The Base Cost at the Cologuard site is $121, a stool DNA test using specialized lab equipment, preservation reagents, DNA amplification, and manual lab technician labor. I am writing to share some important information regarding the Cologuard test kit versus a standard colonoscopy. While the kit may be a less invasive option, there are several significant financial and procedural risks to consider. First, insurance may not cover the cost of the Cologuard kit regardless of appeals, which could result in a $740 out-of-pocket expense. Additionally, there is a possibility of a false positive result that would suggest you must get a follow-up colonoscopy. Most importantly, if you use this service, some HMOs may reclassify a follow-up colonoscopy as a "Diagnostic" procedure rather than a "Preventive Screening" in their CPT codes since you already used your preventative screening with Cologuard. See how that works? This change in classification could lead to your insurance denying coverage for the colonoscopy, potentially costing you up to $7,000 out of pocket. I wanted to make sure all that read this are aware of these potential financial complications before making a decision. read more

Exact Sciences - Cologuard / Exact Sciences online billing reminder - Laboratory Testing Near Me - Madison, Wisconsin

They have badgered and harassed us to the point that I am going to file a report with the phone company and have them blocked. They state our doctor ordered the test when he has said no - he never spoke to us, he does not order behind our backs and told us we do not have to take it, he has a doctor for us if needed. We throw out the test when it arrives as their "notice" does not give us a choice to accept the test or not. they have become so desperate they bother us on the phone in both English and Spanish. We are not a Spanish speaking household even though our last name is Spanish. When we tell them to stop calling they are loud and rude. This not what we call customer service, this is what we call being a pest. We have had enough and will see our lawyer if they try to charge us or keep up with all of this. read more

They call you and leave you a message and when you return their call, verifying with the number they left the message at, they can't find you. Then you wait on hold for 15 minutes to finally get an automated message saying they are busy and call back 24/7. This happens over and over. Pretty sad when a colonoscopy is easier than dealing with them. read more

They keep sending bills after they have been paid. The need to figure out how to bill accurately, and stop wasting our time.

I provided jnsurance information, spoke with their doctor and was never informed my insurance considered it out of network. The kit came promptly and received results promptly. I saw when they filed the $681 charged to my insurance and that the claim was denied. 30 days later I get a $681 invoice. I reached out to see if a lower amount could be paid and I was not informed the procedure was not covered by insurance. I never received a reply. I am not saying the test experience was difficult or not valid, only that you need to call your insurance yourself to find out what your portion of the cost will be. read more

Exact Sciences is either dishonest, disorganized, or both. I would avoid doing any business with them. I ordered a Cancerguard test through my Flexible Spending Account. Exact Sciences charged my account $689 before the actual services were provided (i.e., blood draw). They then refused to provide me with an invoice for the services, which I needed for the FSA company. Exact Sciences said that they could provide me with an invoice AFTER the blood draw; however, that would be a risk for me because it is possible they would not provide me with a suitable invoice, and I would be unable to get reimbursed for the $689 expense. I told Exact Sciences that they should either charge me $689 AND provide me with an acceptable invoice or they should not charge me until the services are provided AND they can also provide me with an acceptable invoice at that time. They should not charge me $689 for services not yet provided then refuse to provide me with an invoice for services. I requested a reimbursement to my Flexible Spending Account, and Exact Sciences claimed it would take 30-60 days for them to return the money. My FSA company said that it should only take a company 3-5 days to process a return, and they don't understand why it would take 30-60 days. I talked to the Exact Sciences billing team four times, and they were extremely unhelpful. The fourth time, the representative was rude and blamed me, then hung up on me. I highly recommend not doing business with Exact Sciences. read more

Beware this company - do your research concerning "CANCERGUARD"- I just want consumers to know they are being "ripped-off" -- most of this a gimmick. They are riding of the success of Cologuard. Try to order blood work myself and I was successful and then after thinking about it I didn't know if I ordered the right blood test for the cancer so I called and Cancergaurd told me I cannot order the test myself and had to be ordered by a doctor and they were going to refund me as soon as my credit card was processed here I am 3 weeks later no refund after two more calls to them I've gotten stories from they're not refunding it to my car they're sending me a check that it comes from a different billing department and it takes days to get the card and then finally after the third call they said it should refund in within a week so very scammy to me I would be very cautious getting any blood work done at this place read more

BEWARE this company is a complete scam. Sent me a cologuard kit WITHOUT MY CONSENT and continued to follow up and even call claiming they were missing my sample. Probably a good test, but horrible customer service It only got worst over the years. My Dr. ordered test, my insurance says they cover one per year. Cologuard insists that my insurance only covers once in two years and I am not eligible because I had one in 2022. 2+2=? VERY rude rep on the phone, put me on "hold" when I asked for a supervisor. Second call started the same, but promised to check with my insurance if I am covered. RIDICULOUS! Somebody, please start a competition, I am sure it's not that hard! read more

I previously never had an issue using Cologuard through United Health insurance until I changed to Devoted Health. Received letter of denial claiming it was billed incorrectly. This company is a scam! They claim that insurance covers the kit. But once you send back the kit in all of a sudden it is an out of pocket procedure and you are stuck with a $700 bill. I have tried for months to fight this bill because my insurance says that they cover colonoscopy kits. I have asked my insurance to call. I have sent in copies of my insurance coverage card multiple times. I have even been assured that the issue was remedied and have a zero balance just to get a new bill in the mail the next month for $700. This is ridiculous. I would have much rather gone through the entire process of an actual colonoscopy than deal with this mess. Edit to add-this was my first and only colonoscopy kit. I have never had a colonoscopy in my life. So it is not an issue of only being covered for so many tests a year. This was my only test and should have been covered! read more

They were supposed to pick up my sample yesterday via UPS. When I called they said that they have a time window of 8am to 8pm and they never showed up. I left special instructions for them to call me when they arrived so I could let them in. Today I had to reschedule for another delivery and when I call I raely can get a live person and when I email them they never get back to me. This is bull shit! A Cologuard test insurance claim was sent to my insurance company on April 2025. Since I did not catch it for 90 days I was unable to stop the payment to Exact Sciences of over $600. I called Exact Sciences on numerous occasions to tell them that I did not receive the box for the Cologuard test procedure and nor did I take the test and return it to them. I also have proof that the so called Medical Provider that ordered the test Lifeline has no record of me and that the Nurse Practitioner Raquel Barba was not even in my area of the United States. I talked to my Medical Office and my attending physician that they have nothing in my files that indicate that they placed this order. They informed me that they order this test every 3 years and my last test was on December 2022. In April of 2025 I was not ready to receive this test. Ask your provider Before they order the test. It is NOT covered by most insurances like they claim on there adds. If your test comes back positive you will still need to get a colonoscopy, that will no longer be routine and will be subject to your deductible. Who has seen the commercial with the little box for Cologuard jumping on and off the toilet? If you haven't you could be subject to what I feel is an unnecessary invasive procedure when you may not warrant it. For years I had a colonoscopy every five years starting at age 40 something. Then the Medical Community decided if nothing was found you could wait ten years before having a colonoscopy. Well recently during my annual wellness check up my doctor called me out on the fact I was overdue. Last time she did this about a year ago I told her about this new test. She knew nothing about it so I just purposely ignored putting myself through another colonoscopy. This year at my check up she started frightening me again about the high rates of colon cancer. Now, here we are in our glory of television advertising. I saw the commercial over and over. It looks simple to do. I decided I would get the paperwork fill it out for the doctor and attach my insurance. All she needed to do was sign and fax it to Exact Sciences. I put it in the mail and in a couple days I received a call from Exact Sciences saying to call. I did call to confirm I was aware of the test. They said it had been mailed. A couple days later it came in the mail. In preparation I had already thoroughly read the contents of their website. I found wonderful information about the test and procedures. When the box arrived there was an easy to understand booklet inside. I was very nervous about making a mistake but I was careful. After all, the test does cost $650.00. I'm fortunate Medicare covers the cost. The company couldn't make it any easier for you to mail it back. I followed the instructions once again. I checked UPS to make sure my test samples were received in Wisconsin and were received on time. Now I play the waiting game. If the test determines I will need a colonoscopy I will decide at that time. The invasive colonoscopy is not recommended after age 75. With the hard life I lived my body is feeling about 80 years old! I'm taking the time to add this to Yelp and tell you the positive experience I had using this service. Their customer care representatives are available 24/7 and in my experience were very understanding and helpful. Don't jump into unnecessary invasive costly procedures. Do your homework first. This test may be right for you. read more

Like numerous complaints all over the net, I received an invoice for $681.00 today. I have absolutely no intention of paying it, as my PCP ordered it and did not inform me of this charge (I would not have done it, if told). I think we should all take them to court (class action), or worse, continue to tell everyone everywhere not to use the Cologuard kit. This is outrageous and the relevant authorities must step in now. If Exact Sciences wants to survive, they should know what to do. read more

I've reached that age in life where the primary care physician looks at you and says "You know it's time." Given my past history of trauma, the last thing I've looked forward to has been the idea of a colonoscopy. Obviously, it's a necessary thing but it's the kind of thing that requires an immense amount of emotional preparation. After a lab was a little bit out of the normal range, my PCP began to more strongly recommend we explore options. Recognizing that an actual colonoscopy was challenging she recommended exploring a Colo-Guard, a lab test offered by Exact Sciences Laboratories out of Madison, Wisconsin. These tests are definitely not inexpensive, though my hope is my insurance will cover a good amount of it given I've met my deductible for the year. Everything initially went well. My physician ordered the test. Exact Sciences sends out the kit via UPS. The kit includes detailed instructions as to how to collect your "sample," a fairly easy process even as someone who is paralyzed. Once you collect the sample, you pack it according to their instructions and you send it back via UPS with the same packaging and a label they've prepared. I was actually able to ship it via my ordinary UPS guy so I didn't even have to leave home. Within a week or two, my doctor e-mailed me with results. I wasn't completely sure how billing was handled initially - wondering if it would be via Exact Sciences or via my PCP. I thought everything was done. However, a couple weeks later I unexpectedly received a second kit in the mail. Weird. My test had been negative, so there was certainly no reason for a follow-up and that wouldn't have been with them anyway. I called, explained, and they were weirdly scripted. I made sure they understood I would not be doing a second test and I already had my results. I thought everything was fine. Then, I began receiving calls. "Send back your kit," they would say. I began receiving texts. After 3-4 more, I called again and again explained everything. I was told not to worry about it and to ignore it. They assured me their system was updated to reflect the test being done. A couple more days. A couple more calls. I called again. Again, assured they understood. Meanwhile, my assumption is that they bill my physician and my physician bills me because it seems like my physician's bill is on hold. So, their inability to get their system correct has held up everything. I've received calls the last 3 days, each time basically a call saying "Return your kit." While the testing process is relatively simple and straightforward, thus I can't justify a 1-star, this customer service experience is simply awful and adds a layer of stress to an already stressful test. Personally, if I were you I'd skip Colo-guard. There are better options and I'll be exploring those options the next time I need this type of testing in 3 years. read more

Most of the reviews are in regard to having to pay ~$680 out of pocket for the test, or difficulty with customer service, or not receiving test and/or results in a timely manner. Not my experience, my Medicare Advantage plan paid for the kit, it arrived quickly, I returned it and received results promptly. Results were positive, so I scheduled a colonscopy to confirm and determine extent of the cancer. I worried for weeks waiting for my procedure and they found nothing, not even a single polyp. I would simply write it off to being one of the 13% false results that Exact Sciences admits to (that seems high!), but my surgeon said he has yet to find cancer in the many patients who came to him due to a positive Cologuard test. This was THE MOST miserable process I have ever been put through. The commercials are cute - and VERY misleading. First they harass your doctor for all sorts of information. He said "No wonder our medical group doesn't use this company". That was the first warning. Then you finally get the test, send it back, and wait. And wait. And wait. A month later I called them. Oops they faxed my results to the WRONG NUMBER. Great. That was my PRIVATE HEALTH INFORMATION THEY JUST FAXED TO AN UNKNOWN ENTITY! I gave them the correct fax number, the same one ON HIS BUSINESS CARD which they had. Oops, someone at Exact Sciences screwed up. Again. Called the next day. They claim the fax number is not answering and neither is his office. Nonsensical. I called myself - immediate answer. I called the fax number - immediate answer with the fax tone. I called them back. Again the rep repeated they were trying the WRONG fax number. Now I don't know WHO is getting my results, but this breach in my private medical information is UNacceptable! I called again the next day. The rep said they had been "calling and faxing but there was no answer on either number." I asked her to give me the numbers. She repeated them, and she now finally had the correct numbers. I told her "then your reps are either mis-dialing or your phone system is screwed up." She responded "three different reps have tried." I repeated "Then it has to be your phone system. There is NO WAY this doctor's office is NOT answering JUST YOUR phone calls and just YOUR faxes!". She said they would try again. Sigh. Yes, you guessed it, I called AGAIN the NEXT DAY. The rep said the SAME THING. They are getting no answer on the phone line or the fax. I asked her to give me the numbers she had. She gave me the WRONG fax number - the one they claimed to have faxed to twice before! UGH! So I am giving up. I am calling and scheduling the colonoscopy, which is far more reliable than this test is anyway. Especially since they won't GIVE YOU the test results! They just give you aggravation! And one would THINK if they cared about their customers, THEY would be PROACTIVE and contact us! I have had to harass my doctor's office daily to see if they received anything, and then I have had to call Exact Sciences. What a ridiculous waste of my time. Avoid! read more

I've had to deal with these people on 2 occasions so far. They are pushy, unbelievably rude and incompetent in their interface with customers. How the company manages to stay in business is a mystery to me. Anyway, the first time the kit arrives while I'm traveling. They call me 3 times in an increasingly belligerent manner stressing I need to get it back to them. No explanation why. Get home, kit expires in 4 months, certainly no issue here. Also have an angry letter from them expressing their disappointment with my request they never call me again. Umm, as though we're children. Take the test, return it, doc gets results, everyone is happy. I just took a test that is 50% less accurate than a colonoscopy and the medical profession is happy. AKA they all got paid. Second time I get the kit, send it back within a couple of days, they call and express disappointment I mailed it too late and there was nothing they could do with it. The assumption is I mailed it too late, not an issue with UPS or their mailroom. Do it again, never hear back, ask the doc about results. Doc never got any results. Check my insurance, Cologard got paid. read more

My doctor ordered a Cologuard test kit. At no point did Exact Science notify me of the $681 charge before the kit was sent to me. They had my phone number since I received text messages from them telling me the kit is being sent and a reminder to complete the test quickly, my doctor is waiting. After completing the test I received the bill showing the $681 charge. Evidently, my medical insurance denied reimbursement for the service because it is considered "pre-screening". Upon calling Exact Science to complain, they informed me that I can file a dispute with my insurance company. The Exact Science representative informed me that they already have dispute documents prepared to send out to clients whose insurance did not reimburse for the service. Based on this new clients should be aware that this is a common complaint and you should check with your medical insurance first if the service is covered. To me, this is deceptive practice of not notifying clients of the $681 charge. read more

This is a strange operation. I got a doctor's order for this test, and shortly thereafter got a call from Exact Sciences asking for my insurance info. Odd that billing isn't handled the same way every other medical test is, but OK. The agent I spoke to was very courteous, but clearly knew very little about insurance billing -- nothing I was saying (policy numbers, etc) made sense to them. Anyway, got my test performed (I guess? Skeptical). Many (six?) months later I got a bill for the full amount showing that insurance hadn't covered any of it. I ignored that bill, and got another copy the next month. I figured the phone agent didn't get the billing info straight, so I sent a hard copy of all the same insurance info. Some months later I got another bill for the full amount. I looked into my insurance records, and found that Exact Sciences had never billed my insurance -- they never submitted a claim. I sent them a letter explaining the situation and stating that I refuse to pay anything until my insurance is billed. This last correspondence was six months ago and I haven't heard back. The fact that this process -- sample collection, billing, transmission of test results -- isn't handled by the clinic itself (like all the other medical tests I've had to date) leaves a lot of room for doubting how legitimate this all is. The fact the there seems to be a fair amount of incompetence makes even more room. I don't think I'll be using this service again. read more

BEWARE. Cologuard is NOT covered by Medicare, Medicare Part B, Medicare Advantage. Unlike what your doctor told you (every 2-3 years), the Medicare.gov site says "Medicare covers screening colonoscopies once every 24 months if you're at high risk for colorectal cancer. If you aren't at high risk, Medicare covers the test once every 120 months, or 48 months after a previous flexible sigmoidoscopy. There's a minimum age requirement of 45." I was stupid, believed what I was told, and got a bill for $681. SURPRISE!! ZERO STARS!!The worst! I was sent a defective and compromised kit. I was not going to use it, but they kept texting and emailing about the urgency to get it done. I was very overwhelmed. I notified my doctor that the kit was compromised, and I would not trust the result either way negative or positive. I took the test anyway, but I called them to tell them about the defective kit, and also the fact that Exact Science Labs instructs and warns that the contents are not to be below a certain temperature--which was also a factor as the kit was left for me outside in freezing cold temperature for 2 days. They said it did not matter. I asked them to send me a new kit, but they refused. I told them that I do not trust the kit, or the results. They told me they would only send e a second kit, if I called my insurance and asked them to deny payment of the first kit, and then they would send me another. I took the test. I got 2 results! The first result was negative. Science Labs announced it to the entire world on a public viewing on Better Business Bureau! Can you believe that? They announced that my cancer screening test results were positive on a public chat site for everyone to see! Along with tat came a pretty nasty response. Then I got a letter in the mail with the 2nd results being negative. Which is it? Positive or negative? I would not trust the competency of this lab, or the people that work in there. I have read so many horrible stories of false results. Not just false positives, but the people who got false negatives, and then ended up having colon cancer. They trusted this lab, and now one woman is wearing a colostomy bag and fighting for her life. I notified my insurance, they assured me they would take care of my issue. Now Exact Sciences is trying to chase me down for the $700, for a defective kit, and inaccurate results. You will not get a penny from me! The company only cares for one thing, and it is not your life! It is money, money, money! You know what......ask yourself.....why do they claim that the Colorguard test should only be used for "people who are at average risk" and also claim "positive results does not mean you have colorectal cancer, and negative results don't mean you do not have colorectal cancer" Then why on earth would you trust this test? Or even take this test? So they can make money! DO NOT TRUST! read more
