People that shall remain nameless dulled and damaged a few of my best knives when they came over a little while ago. These were Wüsthof Classic and Miyabi Morimoto knives. We had one blade that was bent, another that was chipped, and a whole lot of abuse that I was very distraught over. We took an entire block of knives to Exact Blade, and we had the option of waiting or picking up the next day (we chose the latter). Dan really took care of us, everything was sharpened, fixed, and looking brand new. His prices are extremely reasonable, and if a knife is in between sizes, he will actually charge you for the smaller one and not gouge you on the size. I have been using this electric sharpener purchased at Target years ago that just stopped doing the trick. I saw the sign for exact blade out front of his shop in Northbrook so I called and talked to Dan the owner and then I brought over my block of knives as well as a garden shear and 2 pocket knives. Dan sharpened all the blades while I waited and he answered my questions. The knives and garden shears are very nicely sharpened and after he was finished Dan showed me how best use the steel to maintain the knives edges. Took our lawnmower blade there to be sharpened. They did total hack job on it and they don't balance them either. Uneven grinds, scorched metal where the grinder got the metal too hot. Look elsewhere. Yes, the first set of blades where done perfect in 2016, that is what made us return. This years blades a different story. I spent a long time looking for places to sharpen knives around the north shore and almost all of them require that I mail the knives to a distant location for a week or more. Exact Blade was the only place in the area that I found that will sharpen knives in person. We brought a couple of knives and a pair of scissors and Dan was able to sharpen them in 15 minutes. The knives were very well-sharpened; he is clearly a very knowledgeable craftsman. No need to call ahead, there are some nice chairs and a TV if you want to wait in the store. They also sell some knives at different qualities and Dan said they'd be getting more knives in once the interior of the store was completed. We will definitely be returning! read more
