It is immaculately clean and they have a lot of staff who are friendly and helpful. If you cannot see what you are looking for ask and they will endeavour to get you what you want. This butcher has won awards for their steak pies so it is worth trying them out. The car parking is not great, but there is a car park behind the shops and along at lidls if you don't mind a couple of minutes walk. There is a small step into the shop but it can be accessed by disabled patrons.

From having a 5 min healthy discussion on preferences of wing-tip sirloin and ribs of beef I was given a sneeky peep round the back. These guys provide the beef for the best steak places in Glasgow. I'd eaten at one of them earlier in the week and my eyes were bulging at the trays of chateaubriands and rib in sirloins. So, as you'd expect, their meat is very well sourced and as good as you're going to get anywhere. I took a1kg 1rib Angus and pan roasted it in butter and wilted rosemary to get a good sear, then a quick 15 mins in the oven. I had it sat on some roasted beetroot puree with a port, wine and fresh beef stock reduction and the beef was some of the best I've ever eaten. Superb quality and ageing. Week after I wanted a lamb rump as I had the hunger for some dauphinoise. They were happy just to prep some up straight away, no fuss. The lamb was delicious........as was the dauph ;) ........and the sausages. Get the Italian fennel ones and slow cook cook them in your tomato sauce for pasta. Very, very impressive. Prices are as you'd expect for meat of this quality. Look on the window for weekly £10 deals. Steak and chicken. Well worth it.

And if that doesn't make you want to go as well, you're either a vegetarian, or just plain ole crazy (yes, those are different). Nice decor, welcoming, with a good layout and professional staff. If the length of queue to pick up your Christmas order is anything to go by then I knew I was on to a winner. I queued for over an hour on Dec 23, while heavily pregnant, to pick up my order. I can honestly say it was worth it, as Christmas lunch was fantastic! I have paid several visits to this butchers since then and I can reassure that although this is a busy little place the queues aren't normally as long as at Christmas! I have sampled several of their award-winning sausages, and can report that their pork & leek sausages are delicious! They also have a great range of prepared meals ready to go in the oven. From these I love their chicken fillets in a white wine sauce. If you like your steaks visit on a Monday and if you buy two steaks you get a free sauce to go with your steak. I have bought their rib-eye steaks which are deliciously beefy and tender. If Muirhead is out of your reach, then do check out their website as they have an online ordering and delivery service. If you can though, it is worth a visit. Although it is a little small, the shop is pristine and the produce is well presented. There are often daily or weekly special offers also and a Gold Card loyalty scheme to reward regular customers.

Butcher: "No problem, sir. How many? For Friday? See you then." On the day, a cheery welcome, some good banter and some superb shanks, all wrapped and ready to go. In terms of quality & size, more like lion shanks than lamb. I'm still not too enamoured with the sight of bloody pork, but I make an exception for here. The selection in here is pretty wide. It's a butchers, so obviously the main line is meat;mince steak, chicken and veal, but they also do a mean steak pie and really fab ready made stir frys and kebabs with peppers.
