Packing day: Mom and I vacated the house and hubby ran the show. Returned home to orderly box placement, important since my mom had one more night to spend in the house. Moving day: given the distance between the elevator and the apartment, the guys definitely got their steps for the week. I sketched out furniture placement for each room. Executed perfectly. The unpacking: now you appreciate the packing process. OMG my mom has a lot of coffee mugs! Each was wrapped in multiple pieces of paper. Wow. Even the little jars my mom for some reason keeps. However, they were horribly inefficient. It took a four man crew twice as long to move us out of the apartment as it had taken a 2 man crew to move us into the apartment with the same amount of stuff. Also, we had some bags with personal items in a corner that we said we would move ourselves. They insisted multiple times they needed the bags to use as filler in the truck, and when we finally said ok it took extra time for them to use an unnecessary amount of tape on the bags. Furthermore, we had a couch in the bedroom and this crew could not figure out how to move my couch without taking the bedroom door off its hinges- the whole process took an hour, which was problematic as we were paying $225 an hour. That couch has been through six moves with me- 2 of those times I personally moved with the help of an older uncle and it has never taken an hour to move because it's not a terribly heavy couch. In addition to the inefficiencies, we still have bookshelves, a glass insert, and a remote control that they packed up missing. Lastly, I had several boxes marked fragile in big, bold letters and the crew stacked heavy boxes on top of my fragile items.

I am six months pregnant (25 weeks at the time) and alone because my husband moved to PA for a job. I was left with 70% of the house to pack and of course needed help. We agreed to get a U-Haul and hire movers to put the stuff in the truck, then my husband would fly back down to NC to drive the truck. After doing searching reviews on both google and yelp, I contacted a few different companies for a quote. Box & Dolly/Mr. Gibbs reached out to me via phone to communicate his services and rate. He was personable but also very transparent and straight forward about his fee which was 1 flat hourly rate. The day of move, Mr. Gibbs and two other men got there 15 mins early and I was able to show them what needed to stay/go. They laid down a runners throughout the house (to not damage the floor) and got to work. He quickly realized there was something wrong with the U-Haul when he started it to move it. I called U-Haul and got the most wasteful runaround for about 30 mins. Mr. Gibbs picked up the phone and called the U-Haul on Bragg Blvd and was able to get an emergency switch within 2 minutes. Again, I was alone, so Mr. Gibbs offered to give me a ride to the U-Haul. The truck BEARLY went over 30 mph and sounded like it was on the brink of exploding. Mr. Gibbs drove the truck to the Bragg Blvd location and even negotiated an upgrade (larger truck) on my behalf for the inconvenience. At the end, he did not charge me for the almost hour and a half it took to switch the truck out. There's no doubt in my mind that if I hired another moving company, they would have loaded the faulty truck and it would have been our problem after that. There was absolutely no way the first truck was going to make it out of my driveway once it was loaded. To say I highly recommend this company is an understatement. They also took special care to wrap and disassembled furniture. They also were meticulous about packing the truck. When we arrived in PA, our items had not shifted and was not damaged.

I would give this company Negative 3 zero's! My reasoning is: 1. Despite it being a blind moving company (which they do not disclose to you) It's not good with customer service. 2. Yes, they provide a 16ft truck to blindly move massive amounts of stuff. However, it was the company's driver who informed me that a bigger truck was an option. I would have had to rent it on my expense (which I would have gladly done) knowing the amount that I had to move. And when I informed him it was never offered to me, he said, "I'll have to speak to him about that." 2. Because I was told that by the company's driver, I then expressed my concerns via text about not being informed of that option and the fact they would have to take multiple tips. So, at the beginning of the move, the company was aware I had concerns. 3. The drivers were rushing at the end. I know this because when I asked them to place things in their perspective places, the company's driver told me, "We have to focus on the larger items that can be moved because we need to be mindful of our time because we have other jobs to do." This was told to me towards the end of the 2nd unload. We still had to go back for another pick-up. Now, what has me upset is I get contacted by the owner at the end, after I pay the massive balance to move 20 minutes away!!!! He tells me that he didn't "know" I had concerns and he "wished" he would have known sooner because he could have given a discount. However, there's nothing her can do now. Bullshit! On June, 23rd 2025, Sandhills Moving & Storage delivered our household goods after they had…read more been stored for two years in the company's climate-controlled facility while our house was undergoing renovations. Prior to storage, we elected full coverage insurance and were assured that the company had extensive experience handling and storing antique and high-value furniture for our sizable amount of belongings in a 6k square foot home. Upon delivery, we discovered that the majority of our items were severely broken or damaged, and nearly all were affected by what appeared to be mold or mildew. Moisture readings on our antique furniture measured approximately 60%, and in some cases, moving blankets had adhered to the surfaces. All of this damage was witnessed and assessed by not only their moving team but a manager they sent out to our home the following day who was in complete shock at the staggering amount of damage. After Sandhills filed our insurance claim, for our elected full insurance, we learned from the insurance carrier that the required paperwork was not fulfilled by Sandhills despite being required under their own policy. This administrative oversight voided our full coverage protection and reduced our compensation to $2.50 per pound, which is far below the replacement value of the affected items. When we initially raised this issue, a manager, Pat, assured us it would be corrected, but subsequent calls were not returned, and our attempts to follow up have been unsuccessful. Pat refuses to speak to us and the secretary hung up on us. All of these conversations have been recorded and we have proof of all statements made by the insurance, Sandhills, their movers, managers, and any/all parties involved because NC is a one party consent to record. My husband and I are both 100% disabled Army veterans with four children, one of whom has a severe disability and Sandhills was abundantly aware of this. Following the delivery, our family has experienced health issues consistent with mold exposure. A licensed mold specialist advised us to seal off all affected items to prevent contamination of our newly renovated home, leaving a significant amount of our belongings to include all major furniture such as living room furniture, bedroom sets, mattresses, and dining room furniture unusable. This situation has caused substantial financial, logistical, emotional, and health challenges for our family. While we understand that mistakes can occur, we are shocked that there has been no meaningful resolution or constructive communication to address the matter and ZERO accountability. I tried to contact the owner Jason Birdsall via phone, email, and his Facebook with no response. We hope that by sharing our experience, others will have the information needed to make an informed decision to look elsewhere during a move or storage need. We are now being forced to pay for a lawyer to seek legal representation in this matter. No family should ever have to suffer like this.
