Healthtrax Fitness & Wellness - Equipment is poorly maintained and tossed anywhere it lands.

I have been going to Healthtrax on and off for years. As someone who works nights I do not like how…read moreearly they close. The equipment is outdated so much so that I have a second membership to Planet Fitness. The only reason I am here is for the pool. During the day in the pool is usually packed with everyone over the age of 70. Nighttime is a little better. I'm an avid lap swimmer and swim for an hour every night. However, I do not like that every weeknight from 4p-6p the pool is closed for their swim classes with young children. I try not to think about the urine that is 100 percent in the pool after this. My pet peeve is the boomers who will hang out in the swimming lane floating around socializing. Last night I ended up having to use to side of the pool not for lap swimming. Then a family walked in with children, and I left 8 mins into my 60 min workout. I hope the "floaters" got the workout they wanted because I did not. For me I need a pool that is solely dedicated for lap swimming. I get it that this club caters to families and boomers. For the most part the parents keep the children on the recreation side of the pool. However, there is a family that comes almost nightly, and the children had to be told by club members to stay out of the lane's multiple times. Sometimes if the other members must yell at the children a few times the father will then intervene. When I see these children show up at night, I am instantly annoyed. This is not the place for me. I need a gym dedicated to purely lap swimming and to improve my athletic performance in the pool. I will be switching as soon as I can.

Classes are amazing. Instructors are knowledgeable and give lots of options during class.read more

I've been a member here a while now. I like this gym because of the variety of equipment. It has…read morethings like squat racks, belt squat, and some hammer strength equipment that is hard to come by in commerical gyms. They also have a good number of cable machines. That's about where the good ends. It has taken a dive since the ownership change, but even before that it wasn't great. The place is filthy and dilapidated. The bathrooms are rarely clean or functional. One urinal is always out of commission and the other leaks. Toilets are never cleaned (there's been an orange Cheeto sitting next to the toilet for going on 12 months now). The equipment is generally okay, but some of it is in rough shape. Handles are missing or bars to the leg extension are extremely bent. A good portion of the cardio equipment is out of order. There's always a machine broken. They refused to fix a clip on the belt squat machine (and are still using a sub optimal clip today). Recently they've had several pieces of equipment out of commission for a while. On top of that, there's other safety issues that should be addressed; 1. The plate loaded preacher curl needs to be tightened. It's very loose and could cause injury 2. Most of the machines are not tacked to the floor. Meaning they'll move around on you if you start moving some heavier weights 3. Both leg extensions need to be fixed. The oldest one is so loose that it wobbles during the movement, causing horrible knee torque. The other is so bent that it also will cause knee torque. 4. Some of the cables and carabineers need to be fixed. The cables are fraying and the carabineers don't clip down, which is a huge injury risk. 5. The lack of paper towels in the bathrooms and floor means that people aren't washing their hands (have seen it every day I go, six days a week, for as long as I have gone) or wiping down equipment. This is a recipe for ring worm, and trust me, it will happen. 6. They need to update or get additional equipment. There's not enough to go around. Instead of catering to this boxing thing, investing in the fitness aspect would probably be advisable, since your main clientele and business is the fitness component. The conversion of the turf area into a boxing ring seems like a big miss. A lot of work and equipment went into a space that isn't utilized. It would have been better spent upgrading or fixing the current equipment (or making sure there paper towels to wipe machines down). Overall, this gym has become a miss for me. I only continue because of the people and lack of options, but it isn't ever a first choice for me anymore. Disappointing.

She is stronger and more confident and have already started to see improvements on the basketball court. Her footwork is quicker, and overall agility and balance on the court have improved. The coaches, specifically Lexi and Katie have done a fantastic job tailoring workouts to support sport-specific goals.... Excited to carry this momentum into the upcoming season! Highly recommend Olympia for any young athlete looking to elevate their skills.

Excellent people Great facility…read moreSuccessful results I found Olympia on Yelp and decided to give them a call about what they offered and how I could get involved. At the time, fitness coach Pat Sturdahl was who picked up the phone, and about six solid months later, Pat's still my coach. Their services touch on a variety of needs. They partner with Restore RI physical therapy (same building), so they can do corrective/rehabilitative work. They help people concentrate on specific regimens for individual sports. They can tailor workouts for any individual goal you have. They have several classes for different fitness levels. They even offer a firefighter exam course. I've seen people from teens to their 60s working out on their own programs. The facility offers a little bit of everything, from free weights to tension bands, and kettle bells to Assault AirBikes, all in a utilitarian facility - there's a little something for virtually anything you'd want to train. Bonus points that the music always seems to fit whatever's going on. Everyone I've met at Olympia has been friendly, but special shout-out to Pat, who is both laid-back and a highly capable teacher of form and function - he's been exceptional to work with. Olympia is is nestled back on Worthington Street, but well worth seeking out - highly recommended.

He's also friendly and funny yet always keeps me on my game. He knows what he's doing and he's constantly paying attention to proper form and to how to up the ante on my strength goals. I've also started getting deep tissue massages with Jay Moran for a long-term shoulder issue that was impeding my strength training. Again, Jay is professional and kind and has helped me gain increased mobility in just a few weeks. I don't know the other trainers as well, but the ones I've seen around the gym are always nice and seem to love what they do. Body Soul is the BOMB!

I know very little about anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, biomechanics, sports conditioning,…read moreexercise science or physical education. What I do know is that it feels good when I move my body in a healthy way. And there is no better place to do that than at Body Soul Personal Training. Eddie Fleury has been my Body Soul personal trainer since February, and it helps to have someone in my corner. I wasn't sure I'd like having a personal trainer. It seemed like a luxury, and I often wondered if I could afford it, if I was worth it, or if I'd see any progress. Today I can say without a doubt that this is the best gift I could have given to myself. I have developed an incredible rapport and trust with Eddie. We work as a team. Each session, Eddie gently adds something new to increase the duration or intensity. So gradually I am building upon what I did the week before. He calls them "progressions." The empirical data show that I have lost weight, inches and body fat; I have gained strength, endurance and flexibility. What is critical, however, is that I have gained more confidence, which cannot be measured with scales and charts. My skin is glowing, my clothes fit better, I am standing taller and I am setting a good example for my family. I am at peace with my body, my age, my abilities, my strengths and my life. Becoming the best version of myself: Strong. Confident. Secure. Powerful. Hopeful. Satisfied. Blessed. Here's to feeling healthy, staying fit and loving life! Here's to Body Soul!
