Kanika is an extremely talented designer, and I can't recommend her enough!…read more We bought a house in March 2020 - signed the contract days before covid stay at home orders. My husband and I then spent two years working from home together in our front room (we call it the study now) without any rhyme or reason, just putting our desks wherever they fit, because it all happened so quickly. It was awkward and ugly, cords and monitors everywhere, and not a great look for people walking in our front door. The whole time, I was thinking, "when this is done and at least one of us goes back to the office, I want to make this room into a nice space to read and relax, and also to WFH when I have to." That's where Kanika comes in. I tried changing the place up on my own, but every choice I made seemed to make my space uglier and more awkward. It was time to hire a professional. That decision was worth every penny. In the end, my project turned out to be slightly bigger than just one room. I enlisted Kanika's help in choosing flooring, baseboards and paint for the whole house, furniture for my entire downstairs (we were still using the old living room furniture left by the previous owners), and light fixtures throughout. She was easy to work with and understood immediately what I was going for. My study is a real showstopper now - the walls are this deep blue color that looks amazing, she designed a gorgeous custom bookshelf that makes perfect use of the space, and she picked a couch that is the perfect size, just the right color, and so comfortable. And we still managed to get a desk in there for those WFH days. Literally just the other day, I was on a Zoom with someone and thought "this room behind me is so pretty, it looks like a fake background." But it's real, and in my house! And it wouldn't have happened without Kanika. The paint color she helped me pick for my bedroom is something I never would have chosen on my own, but I still regularly think about how nice it looks whenever I go in there. Same with the color of the living room couch, I'd never have found it on my own, but now that I have it, I love it. She knows her stuff. Kanika's husband Adi runs the business side of things. He managed the project, hiring contractors and keeping everything on schedule. The work was done on time, and he kept us in the loop, patiently answering any concerns or questions. And, no shenanigans with the final cost. Really, hiring Kanika Design was a great decision for us.

Beyond permitting and design, they acted as true partners rather than just a standard business, actively pointing out how to avoid costly, unnecessary upgrades and helping navigate challenges with our GC during construction. Jay's dedication stood out during a key site walk when he climbed up into the attic with me. Together, we caught framing, shear-wall, and electrical details that even the inspector missed (during the building phase). Having their architectural expertise on-site before insulation and drywall went up saved us significant money and ensured the structural integrity of the build. Not only did they handle the architecture and permitting in reasonable timeframe, but they supported us through every phase to ensure quality throughout. I genuinely appreciate their responsiveness and ongoing support.

The TLDR: Run, don't walk, to Leo Claudio if you're…read morelooking to put in a well-designed, quality kitchen designed and constructed by a master who takes pride in their work, offers amazing customer support during a very collaborative process, and delivers on schedule! The Full Details: My husband and I have fully renovated several homes in SF before we finally landed in our dream forever home. And, of course, we wanted to put in our dream kitchen as we are both avid cooks, bakers, and entertainers -- and the kitchen is where our entire family hangs out. Since we have done this several times before, we had a very clear vision of what we wanted in terms of function, style, design, and features. We were also looking for a very high level of quality and attention to detail that would ensure the kitchen would last decades -- something that is very hard to come by these days. And lastly, we expected our cabinet maker to care as much about the outcome and final product as we did. Initially in this project, we hadn't heard of Leo Claudio and so we tried working with a couple of other vendors. However, we found ourselves very frustrated when those other vendors either offered a lead time of 6+ months OR took a 'take it or leave it' approach to the design process after collecting our design deposit and not following anything in our vision. I literally found myself in tears on a daily basis trying to work with the other vendors. Enter Leo Claudio whom I found by serendipitous luck. From the beginning, even before I paid a deposit, his daughter Astrid listened to my design requirements and challenges (what house in SF doesn't have structural challenges?!?!) and gave me feedback, and was so incredibly supportive. I knew I was in good hands. Once I paid the deposit, the design process was so incredibly collaborative with Astrid and I texting and calling each other back and forth in real time so that my vision could be followed and Leo Claudio's excellent design sense would be maintained. This experience was far far different from other cabinet companies which had multiple "middlemen" and a week+ turnaround time after each communication. Additionally, Astrid was very mindful of my initial budget and very transparent about what any additional features would cost so there wouldn't be any surprises. A couple of other "extras" in terms of customer support that we didn't get elsewhere....my husband and I were able to tour Leo Claudio's factory in San Bruno. Also, Leo himself came over during the the onsite measurements and gave my general contractor feedback on how we could get even more square footage out of our kitchen and he had a brilliant design idea on how to handle a tricky situation with our exhaust duct. Lastly, we also hired Leo Claudio's team to do the installation rather than having our GC's team doing it. And the install team was as perfect as the construction team. Every single detail is absolutely perfect and shows obvious pride in craftsmanship. We *love* our kitchen. The function, the design, the quality....absolutely everything. Even better, we enjoyed the experience of bringing our vision to life with Leo Claudio, his daughter Astrid, and the entire LC team.

Luck played a role on the timing because a few days prior, the perfect furniture for my condo was removed from a previous stage and someone canceled last minute so her crew could fit me in. The unit sold fast to a cash buyer which meant I closed 5 days after accepting the offer. We were contracted for 45 days but she got her crew together and had it moved out asap. Her crew are true professionals. One minor item that I didn't express was putting nails in the walls to hang mirrors and paintings. I had just completely repainted so it was immaculate. Yvette explained that certain hangings were just too heavy to put up with 3M tape. She and her crew assured me that they use the smallest nails possible. After all the items were removed, it was a non issue. They did use very small nails that were easily filled within seconds. The crew were very careful and worked very fast with no damage anywhere.
