Curry was okay, but at the end of the meal the chef came out and sort of suggested we went on trip advisor and gave him a good review..

I like this place…read more If you have visited Japan & Korea etc and have been missing the atmosphere of a ramen shop, this will suit you perfectly. It does a very good deal on a 'stop the clock' idea, which means you can sit and eat for two hours, from the moment of your first order. The cost is £15.80 which can't be bad. Personally I recommend the Bulgogi, thin sliced BBQ steak. Ushikata! I have hesitated in recommending Teppan Oriental because its very appeal is that all the customers are apparently Korean, Japanese or Chinese and this adds to the atmosphere...

From the owner: We are Bristol's first and only Korean BBQ and Shabu Shabu restaurant…read more The Korean BBQ is comonly known as Yakiniku or Gogi Gui, this refers to the Korean method of grilling beef, pork, chicken, or other types of meat. Dishes are often cooked at the diner's table on metal grills that are built into the center of the table where diners can enjoy doing there own grilling/bbq at the dinner table. The Chinese Hot Pot also known as Shabu Shabu in Japan, and in Singapore and Malaysia the Steamboat. Like fondue but replaced with a simmering metal pot of stock at the centre of the table where diners place their ingredients into the pot to cook. The cooked food is usually eaten with a variety of dipping sauces. Typical Hot Pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, vegetables, dumplings and seafood. Here in Teppan we have a vast choice of ingredients, dipping sauces and stock.

Fantastic food in a fairly relaxed (but still quite formal - does that make sense??) setting…read more The food is freshly prepared and always tastes so good. The staff are always keen to please and always want to hear that you've enjoyed your experience. The restaurant is always so clean, it's very welcoming. But the popularity of this restaurant means that it does get busy! I would recommend booking a table if you're planning to visit in the evening. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but with food of this quality, you can live with that. They also offer a takeaway service, but I have never tried that.

Following the August Bank Holiday weekend a friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat as…read moreneither of us had a chance to grab anything all day. I remembered the wonderful deal I had taken advantage of on a mid week 'Custom Plate' Chinese Banquet at the Shanghai in Gloucester. I took my relatives there some years before and found their system quite unique and very pleasantly memorable. Finding myself once again in their locale I was keen to see if the standard had remained as high. Welcome and service was first class. Indeed the choices were equally as good as before and a very comprehensive table service menu meant there was something for all tastes. The rule seemed to be the same that you could order any dishes or side plates you wanted, the only condition was that any significant left-overs could be charged back at full menu price (on top of the fixed buffet tariff). A crispy duck starter and several noodle and rice dishes were the order of the day. Each one as wonderful as the previous and it really did seem that we had struck gold in terms of our choice of venue. For approx £13 a head (I suspect slightly more at busy weekends), the value and quality more than matched the variety of choices. There were not many empty tables and the atmosphere was pleasantly vibrant. If I have one slight criticism to level it would merely be that the very open plan arrangement of before seems to have been slightly modified to now include a policy of not being able to revert to starter items later on during the service. To me this flexibility was one of the beauties of the former visit and to be fair when I questioned this I was actually courteously allowed to order as I wished. I may suggest that somehow this now needs to be made clearer or better still, left as relaxed as before. There was no pressure to keep re-filling the glasses but due to the length of time we were in the Shanghai, we did sample a small selection of their fine wines and beers. I guess I won't leave it so long next time.

What is it with stupid restaurant signs that feel the need to have classy hand written logos. I…read moreseriously thought this place was called Spice Riot until I looked it up online. It was probably way I went. Looking for surly spices going around burning people and collecting ASBO's sounded like a good night out if I'm being honest. Much to my dismay it was far more civilised than that and found it to be a Thai restaurant too. I like Thai as I'm newish to it and am still finding myself ordering whatever looks good rather than going for a usual dish I like. Beef with hot thai bean sauce was my weapon of choice and I wasn't disappointed. There was a small Spicy riot in my mouth, but nothing I couldn't handle and found it very tasty indeed. The staff were polite and served as well, nothing out of the blue though. It did take a little longer than I would of liked but that may of been due to the large number of bodies that were taking up my air and my time, so it was understandable.

The interior is modern and very well furnished. Not a typical, authentic setting for this kind of cuisine, it's still pleasant enough and certainly kept clean and in good condition. The staff here are friendly enough, although given the nature of buffet dining, there's pretty much very little they have to do. Staff are keen to offer refills on drinks, but this isn't entirely innocent. With the quite cheap prices on buffet food, the drinks are a little bit more expensive and carry a bit of a premium. The food is pretty average. That's an honest opinion. Really don't think it's anything to write home about, and i'd hardly call it authentic and flavoursome. The poor quality of the food is detrimental to the whole experience quite significantly. After all, you do go out to eat the food, not take in the surroundings.
