I'm usually pleasantly surprised at the amount I get from some of the stuff I've brought there. The staff will weigh your gold and give you a value for it, and then you can decide if you actually want to go through with the sale. If your gold is attached to diamonds, they will give you back the diamonds if you ask for them. So thank you, ex boyfriends.
