He takes the time to listen to my concerns. His referrals to other specialists have been spot on and done with warm handoffs. I even called once from overseas while on vacation and Dr. Valero helped me determine that I needed to seek medical attention in that country, and I am really glad I did. Sometimes it can take a while for the medical students to input the information at the beginning of the visit, but that is how students learn, so have some patience.

When I arrived, I found out that the entire lab staff was on break and the lab would be closed for 1.5 hours. I completely understand that employees need and deserve breaks, but having the entire lab unavailable for that long during regular office hours is extremely inconvenient for patients who are coming in and need care. A rotating break schedule would make much more sense so patients are not expected to wait an hour and a half. Since I could not have the labs done there, I drove to Labcorp instead. Once I arrived, I discovered that part of my lab orders was missing because the urine test had not been sent. This means yet another wasted trip and another day I will have to set aside just to go back and complete something that should have been ordered correctly the first time. I find this extremely inconsiderate of a patient's time. On top of everything else, I had already paid my copay for the office visit. The doctor told me it could be refunded, but when I spoke with the front desk staff about it, the interaction was extremely unpleasant. Their attitude and lack of courtesy were disappointing and certainly not what I would expect from staff working in a medical office. I left feeling that my concerns and my time were treated very superficially. Patients deserve professionalism, clear communication, and basic courtesy. Between having to physically go to the office because I received no response, finding the lab closed for 1.5 hours, driving to another lab, discovering that part of the order was missing, and then dealing with an unpleasant interaction at the front desk, today was an unnecessarily frustrating experience. While the staff were polite, I was simply told that Mr. Costa was "running behind." What I can speak to is the level of disrespect that Mr. Costa shows toward his patients. I would steer far clear of Mr. Costa, and likely the rest of this practice, given they have chosen to tolerate someone so obviously disrespectful and inept.
