I had my experience with bodybuilding and very restrictive diets that ultimately were not sustainable. I was successful in the past, but as I turned 30, it was becoming more difficult to dial in my overall health. Then just like that, I became a Father. It was the proudest day of my life. With this, came increased stress, poor sleep, increased weigh gain and a lack of ambition to get back in the gym. It took a few months for me to notice. When I did, I knew I would need help. I'm not normally the type to go to others for help. I made it through 30 years of my life doing it by myself, why would I need help now? Unfortunately, I was running out of options. When I got home I would lay on the couch for hours. I could feel my body slowly shutting down. At that point the person with whom I was speaking stopped me, claiming that Medicare would only pay for a dietitian if there were a pre existing condition such as diabetes -- anything else is strictly self pay. Afterwards, I contacted my Medicare advantage carrier and found out this response was completely inaccurate, that there are no prerequisites for being seen by a dietitian. It is my understanding that the carrier reached out to the clinic to clarify, but did not receive a reply to several voice mail messages. Not sure whether Medicare or the disability caused this misinformation to be communicated, but my trust was lost immediately.
